Suspicious!!

It looks like as of this morning, basically the entire NTX P25 system is encrypted, or at least the majority of the dispatch channels that were open yesterday are now no longer in the clear. Frisco, The Colony, Collin County Sheriff’s Office are all encrypted. DPS tollway is the only law enforcement call I’ve heard all morning in the area.
Sad, but it is understandable… during emergent situations, officers don’t want to have to be bothered to remember to switch from the dispatch channels over to an encrypted one or to flip the crypto switch on their radio.
Of course, there’s always the people who will say this is to hide what’s happening and not to protect people. And for all I know, that may in fact be part of the motivation — I’ve heard some things that made me raise my eyebrows over the years.
And I suppose if it’s worth figuring out what it would take to start doing regular FOIA requests on daily audio… These ought to be public records, and in fact, I’d think we could get more than the dispatch channels. One side benefit is it would potentially make the city say “I wonder if it would be easier to go back to the way it was before.” 😂 But if we think the audio is of public interest, we ought to be able to hear it.

Plano has encrypted their entire radio system. You will no longer be able to hear anything. Most cities are going to this sort of system. The claim is that it protects officers from the bad guys listening in. The truth is that it allows them to tightly control crime reporting in the city.
Journalists won't be running out to a call they heard on the scanner. People might see something going on and report it online, but lacking information who is to say what happened? Police departments are not required explain what they are doing.
I think down the road you will see departments get rid of Public Information Officers and force journalists to use a FOIA for any information the department doesn't want to willingly release to the public. The department will use the FOIA law to stall the information release for weeks, by which time the story will be old and no longer "news." Poof! No crime reported on TV or in the newspaper means there's just no crime. Everything is great in the bubble!

I would not expect any less in Greg Abbots Texas

CrimeRadar still works

Yes, but it is only showing the Fire Department calls in Plano. FD is still on the scanner and Pulse Point. I sure miss the Plano PD scanner.

I wonder if you were hearing the same things as me last night. Heard a loud motorcycle or car racing on 121 and then sirens. I looked in Pulsepoint and there was an accident off Independence and another off Coit. I opened my scanner app to find it doesn't work anymore.
