No they are Not the same. The 5.56 will not fit on 7.62 muzzle devices. 7.62 will fit on both 5.56 and 7.62. This is to prevent you from shooting 7.62 through a 5.56 can. They are different.

Most other supressor ecpsystems have their HUB adaptors priced about $80-$120, about ~$100 average. Consider this before you are trapped in an ecosystem, especially one as "premium" (abusive) as Surefire.

The problem is once you are committed enough to a mounting system it is hard to go a different route. When I got my first Surefire there was not nearly the selection there is now.
Plus I planned ahead before my exodus from NJ and needed a suppressor that was attached via a non-threaded mount interface.

Why would one get the 5.56 version? Doesn't the 7.62 version work with both muzzle device sizes?

I use the 5.56 adapter for the exact purpose it was created, so I don't "oopsie" (more likely friends shooting with me than me) the 5.56 can on the 7.62 gun. I have a Bren 2 in both calibers and B&T & CAT cans that look almost identical.
If going on a 30cal can, go 7.62 for sure.
