The muzzle break works fine on any length barrel. I bought my first one from Schuyler's for about this price about 2 years ago. It does not come with the tool but one can install it without the tool.

The EPSILON 556SL is the ideal muzzle brake for 14.5" rifle builds. Featuring an outside diameter of .745", the EPSILON 556SL can be pinned and welded to your barrel while still allowing full maintenance and removal of your gas block without having to remove the muzzle device.
The EPSILON 556SL utilizes a new aggressive chamber design that improves gas flow and reduces felt recoil significantly. It also features deep channel cuts that greatly reduce the overall weight toward the front end of your build.

Does it make the rifle twice as loud though?

I notice no difference between this brake and another one of my rifles with a A2 flash hider but I double up on ear protection anyway and only shoot outdoors. No one has complained to me about using this brake or using the Strike Industries J-Comp2. There are replies to other posting where some say this brake is louder than an A2 flash hider.
Some say it helps with recoil. Some say 5.56 does not have much recoil so does not require a brake. I did feel a large increase in felt recoil when going from my ACI Bravo to either my DDM4V7 or my Ruger MPR. Then I put Sprinco red buffer springs and H2 or H3 buffers in the DDM4V7 and MPR. Then I shot the ACI Bravo and the felt recoil in that was then harsher so I but a Sprinco blue spring and H1 or H2 buffer in it and it felt as soft shooting as the other two.
Someday if I find the time I may try to do a different comparison between an A2 flash hider and the J-Comp2 and VG6.
Lanbo's Armory has Strike Industry muzzle devices for competitive prices. I think the J-Comp2 is about $28 there.

They're unobtainium now, but the cage device's for the gammas work very well. They're definitely worth the extra cost as they cut down the blast significantly.

I put one on an ar10 and shot it resting on my tailgate. So the shock was able to travel into the bed and come back to me.
I'm sure combined damage did the trick but my tinnitus literally started 2 hours after ~10 rounds shooting like that, with walker pros on.
Needless to say I only shoot with cans if possible, or doubled ear pro.

Grabbed some of these a few years ago, don’t remember who the vendor was. Didn’t come with the tool, so I reached out to Aero (didn’t purchase from them) and they sent me a couple tools for free. Solid folks over there. YMMV.
