After going through hell and back on a PSA dagger that has almost 8,000 rounds through it. Glass on the optic finally cracked after shooting indoors and then taking the pistol out into sub zero weather. Say what you want but I definitely got my moneys worth.

Why do you buy cheap gear when you could save for just a little bit longer and get something actually nice? I used to test and repair guns for a living, and I live in a state where the temp gets to -30 every winter. I’ve literally never had an optic crack from normal use.

No need to throw a $500 red dot on a $200 range toy. Plus a brand new red dot in the box sent back to me? Hell yeah! Thermal shock can happen to any brand. At the end of the day manufacturers use the same materials as one another. Same thing happened to a close friend who had a Trijicon RMRcc on his edc.

I was a gunsmith for years. What you just said is entirely incorrect. Manufacturers do not use the same materials across offerings. I didn’t say you needed a $500 red dot on a pistol, but holosuns are very affordable and great options.
Also, I fully do not believe the rmrCC cracked due to thermal shock from walking outside. With the tempering trijicon uses and the tests they go through,I’d bet my entire paycheck that’s not what cracked it lol.

Go look at manufacturer specs for SF, Holosun, and Trijicon all make their housings out of 7075 T6 aluminum with coated lenses. All brands have their quirks, seen aimpoints with mislabeled and popped out turrets and had a guy at the club have delamination on a EoTech. My buddy literally shot a session indoors put his pistol into his range bag still hot and left the bag on the backseat. Next session it cracked right across after his first 5 shots.
