I’m not opposed to some kind of waiting period to buy your first gun. If someone shows up at a gun store and says “I need a gun right now!” that’s cause for some concern.
But I have a safe full of pistols and rifles. If I woke up today and decided to be a problem, a 10 day hold on my next purchase isn’t exactly going to matter.

CA compliant just means it has the internal locking system. It’s basically a hammer strut lock in the mainspring housing so you can just swap it out or never use it. Comes with a set of keys.

Kind of agree. This gun is iconic, and so is the connection between the TRP and the FBI's former Hostage Rescue Team pistol.
But the FBI switched to the Glock 17 8 years ago, so some of that luster has been lost.
In 2026, this is the wrong caliber, the wrong capacity (single-stack 1911 instead of double-stack 2011), and the wrong sighting system (no optic cut is a non-starter).

I don't think you're wrong, but it feels really weird to call out a 1911 specifically for these issues. The pistol design is over a century old, and the 1911 has really never claimed to be a modern pistol. It's a single stack 45, because that's the classic design, not because someone at Springfield chose it.
I will give you that this should be optics cut though since it is an attempt at a modernized design

I appreciate that and agree with you. But it's undeniable that 9mm has taken the lead, at least at present, and that's been a blow to the 1911 platform on its own. Any gun in 45 ACP — even a great 1911 — already starts at a disadvantage.
Kimber, Springfield, Tisas, and many others are now making 2011-style guns below the $1400 price point. It's true that this TRP is cheaper than a Staccato, but it's not cheaper than a Prodigy or a Kimber Warrior, and I think more and more people are cross-shopping tactical 1911s with those guns.
All that being said, I'd be way more interested in this with an optics cut (even though I realize that the CA gun roster would probably consider that enough of a change that it would get the boot).

No one is disagreeing. You get more capacity and cheaper bullets with 9mm but that isn't the point. You're looking at things purely from a combat or competition perspective when in reality 95+% of guns are just safe queens that people enjoy. Should lever action guns just not sell anymore because they have low capacity and outdated features?

It certainly carries a 90s tactical aesthetic that I admit is very attractive, so maybe it has a place as a safe queen for Gen X and older Millennials.
But safe queen 1911s are a niche and they often have a more traditional look—so this is a niche within a niche.
Most people who are thinking about training with this probably see a bunch of features that are past their expiration date—it's no longer an innovation to have adjustable sights; we expect all guns, even subcompact ones, to come with rails; etc. Take this guy, for example, who is explicitly cross-shopping this TRP against a Kimber 2011 and wants the Kimber...
And again, it's not a negative for a 1911 to be chambered in 45... But in 2026, most people don't want a 45 (which pushes them away from 1911s in the first place).

It's definitely the right caliber for a 1911, but that's the problem in a nutshell. 9mm is the dominant caliber right now, which already puts the 1911 behind the 8 ball (especially since people who like the 1911 can get their fix in 9mm with a 2011).

I agree it's a bit high, and I know this is the Internet where we all carry Staccatos and Nighthawks, but describing the TRP as a "mid" 1911 is crazy to me. It's definitely on the nicer end of production 1911s.
A basic Kimber Custom II is mid. A Tisas Duty is mid. A TRP is a pretty nice gun, just a bit overpriced right now.

No need to cut anything when it exists. PC9125LR for non-optics cut (short rail otherwise identical to the one in the post), PC215LRAOS for optics cut. But it looks like the first SKU is discontinued so whatever’s out there is what’s out there.
