The Warne XSkel is not as heavy as some other good mounts and it is much more durable than some other mounts. Other highly recommend mounts may cost twice or more than the XSkel. Search for it on Gun(dot)Deals to find lower prices.

I love Vortex but their naming and grading system in all of their sub $500 stuff is a pain and a headache to navigate in terms of quality. The gen 1 strike eagles had a terrible rep but the gen 2 1-6 (The 1-8 sucks) got a lot of good praise, the venom is by all reviews the better 1-6 though. The Strike Eagle line is also about to drop a 1-10 LPVO.

The Venom is better.
Technically, based on their lineup order, its a downgrade, but while they were hot shit in the budget category on release, the SE LPVOs are also over a decade old. The Venoms are only a year or two old, and Chyna continues to get better at making glass on a budget. Vortex uses their cheaper LPVOs as the gateway drug to their products, and these and the SEs have always had pretty good available deals, including mount quite often.

The PA Nova has a brighter dot than the Venom or any other red dot probably under $300. I would have to compare the two to see if the PA Nova is better in other area or rely on reviews from C_Does on YouTube.

I know the Venom is different in many ways. I was not going to get into the other differences in the reticles. I was just listing the only clear advantage of the PA Nova when it comes to those that want very bright illumination that works in the brightest of conditions. That is not a priority for everone.
For myself I seldom use illumination when at the range as I don't generally use dark targets. So black lines from etched reticle work better for me. The only exception is when I as shooting at dusk. That is the only time I feel the need for ilumination. I have used the RT-6, PA Nova, Vortex Venom, Vortex Diamondback 4-16x, and Bushnell Match Pro 6-24x scopes on various AR15s over the years. I use Bushnell Match Pro ED 5-30x scopes on my centerfire bolt action rifles. The illumination on the RT-6 is so dim that it really is not very visible until dusk but that is fine with how I use it.

Venoms are the lowest quality line with glass made in China IIRC, followed by Vipers with glass from I think the Phillipines?, and Razors are the highest quality glass made in LOW of Japan the same as all other top-end LPVOs.

I had a strike eagle 1-8 on my AR, and it was kinda awful. 1x was more like 1.5x, above 6x the image lost a ton of resolution and got cloudy. The turrets didn’t have “off” between each illumination setting.
I swapped to the Venom 1-6x and it is waaaaay better. 1x is damn close to true 1x, there is “off” between each illumination setting, the picture is clear at 1x, 6x, and everywhere between. No clouding of the image, no loss in resolution.
The venom 1-6x is a STEAL at 175.
Fuck it, I’m grabbing another as a backup or to put on my 10/22. Hell, maybe I’ll toss it on my PCC for the lulz. You can’t go wrong at 175 bucks!
Side note: you can’t pickup cheap vortex rings or cantilever mounts from as optics in their refurbished section. I’ve bought a lot from them and everything was either still factory sealed or open box but clearly never used.

Others have asked that question here too. Warne XSkel mount has been recommended by many for years as it is not as heavy as some but still very durable. Some cheaper mounts have been known to break. Search for it on Gun(dot)Deals.

Many prefer SFP over FFP with a 1-6x LVPO. Many lower cost 1-8x LVPO either have issue at 1x or 8x. Some do not have close to a true 1x image. Some have image quality the get worse past 6x.. So for a lower cost LVPO may be actually better off with 1-6x and SFP.

Excellent price for this. I bought it on Amazon for 240 without the mount (I had a spare leupold mount) and it's been solid. Went from using a burris RT6 to this and the reticle is so much better.

I can vouch for it, the glass and overall build quality is great for the price. You’ll see some minor distortion at 1x but it’s perfectly usable. It’s heavier and bulkier than many higher end LPVOs but that’s the trade off for the price.

Watch out for the silly shippingprotection they’ll add onto your order without your knowledge or consent. It’s a 7 dollar up charge for no good reason. I’ve currently emailed them ask for it to be removed.
