This 1000%. I always Dramamine up before amusement parks and it works great. In TN this week for Spring Break and did a couple of mountain coasters with my 14 year old daughter without Dramamine. I paid for that, had to go back to the cabin and lay down in bed for a couple of hours afterwards 🤢

so the other year I, a 40+ year old man, decided to show my nieces at a garden BBQ how to do a cart wheel. I haven't stretched or done any exercise in like 20 years I guess. not fat, not fit either. ..anyway a cartwheel is just like riding a bike. so I just get off my lawn chair, make some space and do it. to my credit I did it ok. all my illusions disappeared the moment my first hand hit the floor though. that pain all up my arm was like an lightning bolt, then the other arm hit as my lower back and hips felt the force of the transition through them as momentum fling them up and over. my neck screamed in agony like a brief nova of pain, and then just as swiftly my feet were over the top and coming down. my wrists were screaming but the worst was yet to come, as my legs came down together my ankles and knees bore the brunt of 20 years of neglect and made sure to report their displeasure with aplomb. I snapped upright, stunned at my poor choices and total lack of awareness of my capabilities, but was met with raucous applause from those present. I did my customary bow after doing something stupid for their entertainment and collected my beer that I'd asked my wife to hold and then spent the rest of the week stiff. the lesson here is the brain might remember how to do something but the body sure as fuck doesn't want it

I did this last year, I love swing sets! First time I miscalculated and went higher rather than further and had to roll out of it. Kinda scary amount of hang time haha. Second attempt was much better and controlled. After that no problem. I'm big and not exactly athletic and didn't really feel like I was in danger of serious injury, but splinters from the wood chips was a real concern!

I remember the day so well because it was embarrassing. I was in 3rd grade and was somehow able to snag a swing on the new playground after lunch at school. I was on my last dismount before my turn was up and decided to go big. I jumped from the swing and landed on my feet. The crowd was bigger and I was soaking in the attention. Until I realized my shorts were still attached to the chain of the swing. It was just me in my undies while my shorts flapped in the breeze of the swing chain. So yeah, never again.

As I got to the swings peak, I let go and was catapulted into the air and landed one leg on top of the railing and the other stretched out behind. Needless say, she asked If I was okay but a longing concern, holding hands and eternal bliss was never ever on the cards 🤷🏾‍♂️.

The last time I did this was twenty-odd years ago in my early twenties. I did not consider how being full-grown would result in much more force my legs had to absorb when landing, compared to when I'd jump off the swings as a kid. I did this like 2 years ago at about the age of 44. I landed fine, but I felt nauseous. Nothing came up, but seriously not sure why not. Maybe it was adrenaline (not likely - wasn’t enough of that if there was any at all); maybe it was the launching through the air (maybe, really not sure). Maybe a 44 year old woman shouldn’t be jumping off swings because she’s 44, and those jumps are meant for the youth. Just not the same…

I was never the kid jumping off swings, because I knew that I'd hurt myself. I was...rather fragile through the joints particularly growing up. I was forever injured for one reason or another. It was years before I found out I have hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Now it all makes sense.

Funny you posted this, I was just talking with a co-worker who's around the same age about swinging as high as you can and jumping off. I didn't like doing it much, and then in 3rd grade a classmate broke his angle jumping off, and I felt justified in not liking it, and didn't tempt fate with high jumps anymore. As I am now, I could jump, but holy shit it'd be risky. I've sprained both ankles, so that'd be my most likely to occur injury, roll an ankle like an MFer.

Man, we used to essentially back flip out. Not completely - just lean back, and pull back on the chains, and pretty much stay in the seat until you were upside down, let go and complete the flip. The simple thought of that now is absolutely terrifying and would threaten my very existence if tried today.

My kid's 11, so a few years. I snowboard and used to enjoy the jumps, but now the knees are the first thing to feel it. Worst thing you can do is nothing... took me until 38 or so to realize the importance of stretching. The last time I did this was when I was 11, I was wearing an unbuttoned long sleeve shirt over my t-shirt and it got caught in the chain loops as I was leaving the swing in mid-air. The conflicting forces resulted in my getting yanked facefirst into the mulch underneath, and it never seemed nearly as fun after that.

Went about as good as you'd expect. lol I survived but was thankful I didn't jump off like when I was a kid and the swing was almost parallel to the ground. I swear we used to get like 20ft of distance and I height of 8 ft (maybe that was only in my child's mind, but it WAS high and far).
