Setting a speed limit on the throttle ?

How do I disconnect or set a speed limit on the throttle on my ebike ? I bought a cheap ebike ,urlife f1l , to use for work , seller said it was uk legal ....... π yeah he lied ! The throttle doesnt cut out at 6kph like the law says it needs to so my question is as above. How do I either disconnect the throttle or set the limit to 6kph . Ive already been stopped 3 times by the police for riding my escooter so I thought I cant afford to get caught riding an illegal ebike π

Hi Amanda, since I'm interested in purchasing the Urlife F1L bike, I wanted to ask you how you brought the throttle back to 6kmh? Thanks

Hi . My husband bought a speed limiter for Β£4 and fitted it himself . He traced the throttle wire into the box under the back seat where all the wires are stored ( yellow wire on my bike ) cut it then soldered the wires to the speed limiter. If you want i can ask him exactly which part he bought π
Subject_Arm6531@reddit
Yes, that would be very helpful. Maybe if you could also tell me where to buy it, thanks π

You can actually change the speed with it . I have it set to the lowest . Its just enough to get the ebike moving then you have to pedal to make it go faster
Subject_Arm6531@reddit
where can I buy it?
amanda30uk@reddit (OP)
Ebay

Mine wasnt limited when I got it . I had to get a speed limiter fitted to it myself to make it legal

Isnβt legality based capacity and not actual performance? At least in this USA, the bike itself is either legal or illegal, not the speed at which it is traveling. Which I know is odd because thatβs not at all how cars work. All cars can thΓ© speed limit but you have to be caught at speeds before it is illegal. An ebike can be illegal at 0mph.
amanda30uk@reddit (OP)
Its gotta be a 260 watt motor and no faster than 15.5mph to be uk legal if its both of those things but powered by a throttle that makes it illegal
funcentric@reddit
That's hilarious. 6kph is less than 4mph. We can walk faster than that.
amanda30uk@reddit (OP)
I know it just helps get it going before having to pedal lol

Makes sense

According to the manufacturers website the throttle should be disabled for EU countries. You should be able to contact them about how to disable it.

The seller said just dont use the throttle !! π yes sorry officer I know its an illegal bike but I promise I dont use the throttle so that makes it legal ...... im sure that would work ππ π
amanda30uk@reddit (OP)
All sorted π just cut the throttle wire so it works just as pedal assist now π

I've just asked Gemini A.I "How can I alter the maximum speed on my E-bike, it's an "Urlifef1l" and it told me about 3 different ways it can be done...
The + & - holding method I described was one of them.
amanda30uk@reddit (OP)
There is no + & - on this screen
MickyBee73@reddit
Ah, that's just a basic throttle with battery indicator, so yeah you're probably not going to be able to do it. I have an exact same throttle, and when hooked up to a direct drive hub and controller it's a very basic E-bike with the only display being the throttles battery indicator levels. Sorry, but it seems you won't be able to do it, as there's no way to digitally change it to any set speed limit, or maximum speed. π

Can I disconnect the throttle but still use the motor for pedal assist ?
MickyBee73@reddit
Apparently you should be able to just unplug the throttle cable - ignore what I said before.
MickyBee73@reddit
Apparently your display supports three different riding modes, throttle only, peddle assist, and regular bicycle mode. So you just need to change it to peddle-assist only.
MickyBee73@reddit
You could try it, it may work.

If you're a responsible rider the police don't care. I bike it to work and back on my ebike, 5 Mike each way. I've ridden up to and past police officers in cats countless times and they've not cared because I had my lights on. Appropriate gloves and a helmet. If they think you're a trouble causing chav then yeah. They'll stop you.

Im a 56 year old woman . Im very careful and ive been stopped 3 times on my escooter . Theres lots of idiots riding round my town so the police are riding round on dirtbikes stopping them . They said its not fair to stop the teens but not stop me . π slight difference is i dont ride around like an idiot but still they keep pulling me ! So I bought what I thought was a legal ebike π sadly it has a throttle . π so i need to make it road legal as I cant afford to get stopped again and fined . I just know this guy will be waiting to pull me again π©
Exact_Juggernaut5627@reddit
Unless you want to tinker in the settings, you could just stop yourself from using throttle past 6, even 10kph. Cops won't care if you're pedalling and riding like a normal indovidual

I just think they will say whether i use it or not its still there and that makes it illegal .
sofiahcoppola@reddit
omg three times by the police already?? maybe check if there's a programming port on your controller, some bikes let you connect to them and adjust settings through an app or computer.
amanda30uk@reddit (OP)
Yeah I have an escooter so ive been stooped on that and had my details taken so I cant afford to be caught riding another illegal bike ππ

What make and model is your bike, because you need to access the menu "P" settings (they're usually called on displays) and it's usually "P08" that dictates how fast your bike can go for its top speed. If you Google (ask Gemini AI on your phone) how to use your bikes display to access the (usually "P" settings).
Then, all you do is go into the settings and lower P8 to the number in (usually Kmph, not mph) to the legal limit in your area) - For example, my display I hold the UP & DOWN arrows for a few seconds to get into my settings, then the middle button cycles through them. So, I'd go to P08 and alter it (UP/DOWN buttons to change) to 25kmph, which is the legal limit of 15.5 mph here in the U.K, then press & hold both the UP & DOWN buttons again to change any settings changes I'd made and default back out to the normal riding display.
So, you just need to ask Google/Gemini A.I how to access your specific e-bikes menu settings, then simply change your maximum speed limit (usually P8).
Good luck with it. π²β‘π

This is the screen on it

Theres no menu its a urlife f1l . I really dont think there's any way I can sort it tbh π
chuckwolf@reddit
just set the speed limit on your pedal assist, throttle speed is limited to that
PickleAlly@reddit
It has nothing to do with the throttle having a setting.
Zenigata@reddit
If you search for the model number of your display and manual you should hopefully see how to get into the settings.
On mine there is an option to have a cut off on the throttle, annoyingly it doesn't seem to do anything though. Which is a pain as the throttle really helps get a heavy cargo bike started uphill.
On all the ebikes ive worked on you can simply follow the wire from the throttle to the display and unplug it. They've all worked with no issuesΒ Β Β without a throttle.Β
