https://www.airforce.gov.au/news-events/flying-activities-events/2026-03-14/gallipoli-barracks-open-day-flypasts I just discovered why. local Army base is having an open day, so the Air Force is joining in the fun. This is the same city you see the C-17s doing the canyon run over the river through the CBD, so this little C-27 over the suburbs is no big deal 😅

Makes sense! When you're used to C-17s threading the needle through the CBD, a C-27 over the suburbs is basically just a noisy commute.

that Barracks gets helicopters 1 month a year for localisation training. it gets noisy with the Chinooks and Tigers. we just got Apaches, but we only have 2 so far and they are based up in Townsville so I don't think I will see them down here anytime soon.

Chinooks and Tigers rattling the windows once a year sounds like a fair trade. The Apaches will make their way down eventually... good things come to those who wait!
