Do you have a translation for this? I can read about 95% of it, but there are a handful of words that I'm either blanking on or have fallen into disuse. That’s the first time I have seen the letter thorn printed - or yogh, for that matter. But by this time the letter wynn had clearly disappeared - so this looks to be right on the transition of Late Middle English and Early Modern English. Fascinating.

It is usually the local council that are responsible for naming streets in most places in the UK. Years ago I had to ask the council to change my address for my new build house as the developer was a fool. They built the houses but thought it was facing one way when in fact the front door was facing another road. So they said. Couldn’t get any post or deliveries. Council told me that they had driven around to check, said yes you are correct, and here is your new address. It took Royal Mail about 6 months to recognise the change.

There was a traditional street name in England called "Gropecunt Lane", so named because workers in the world's oldest profession used to work there and offer said service to clients. Most have been changed now to something much more saccharine and safe, but if you search it on Google maps, one still shows up, although it's been changed, too, it still comes out in a search result. This I learnt in the Economist magazine, of all places, 26th November 2022 issue if you don't believe me.
