lol, I’m a part time RSO at range USA and we just had an Albert Einstein level genius light a decent fire in the rubber backstop with tracers. Happens more than you might think, we also get plenty of hood gentlemen come in with 5” Anderson ar pistols so dry that the bolt won’t cycle and a full mag of green tips. Eh idk, probably limitations of the existing building. It sat vacant for years before the range bought it, so they just sort of converted a section of it into a backstop as effectively as they could within budget.
That being said, it would have def been much more expensive to build a backstop that can reliably handle green tips, and there is literally no reason to shoot them within 500ish yards like I said, so the rule really doesn’t hurt anybody sensible

$0.79/rd for M856 tracer isn’t terrible, but remember, a lot of ranges won’t allow tracers because of fire risk. It’s more of a novelty or night-shoot ammo than something most people will burn through for regular training.
If you’re just stocking up on 5.56 to shoot, standard M193 or M855 is usually cheaper and easier to use anywhere.

Modern tracers are designed with a delayed ignition so they don't start burning externally until they are 100-200 yards away. This is done so they don't give away the exact position of the shooter.

Not sure why you'd go with the 11th round. I was watching something and the guy said they'd load 5 tracers, 20 green tip and 5 77 grain bthp.
Those first couple were for the precise shots at the start of an engagement. The next 20 were the workhorses and the last 5 were to let you know a reload is impending.
