Higher Diesel & Spot Price

I'm assuming that if diesel prices go up substantially spot rate for Freight has to reflect that in transportation I'm assuming right otherwise no one will hit the highway because there's no point you're only breaking even.

You'd think but it's not that simple. Not too long ago in 2023 diesel prices were averaging $5.49 for me and reefer rates on the spot market were barely hovering above $2/mile on most loads. And not every one's break even rates are the same.

Our fuel surcharge is determined by the current diesel rates reported by the EIA. Spot rate quotes for 30 or 90 days are based off the highest fuel prices in the previous 3 weeks. |**02/23/26**|**03/02/26**|**03/09/26**| |:-|:-|:-| |3.809|3.897|4.859|

Oil prices are dropping. Diesel should hopefully start slowly coming down.

My company (hotshot) charges fuel rates at a percentage of the linehaul. We are at 29% right now.

It’s high. Before the gas prices jumped, we were hovering between 16% and 18%.

don’t underestimate how many are out there already at breakeven because they don’t have any other means
