Sig didn't release this gun to compete with Beretta's 92X Performance, though. For starters, it's SAO, and they were offering a more competitive pricetag from their OG $4k German Sig Mastershop P226 X-Fives. If anything it was to compete with 2011s, which the price tag is a lot more reasonable.

You got your facrs wrong. The German x5 guns were sold for $2300-2500 back when they were imported. Their prices have since gone up on the second hand market since these US made X5's replaced them and the German mastershop guns aren't imported (or probably even made at all) anymore.
The German guns had a reason to be sold as a $2000+ gun, These ones do not.

P226 is Sig’s best pistol and one of the best, if not the best pistol made. X5’s have always been expensive and 2-3x this before they were brought back out.
They are expensive but no more so than other higher end pistols in this price range.

P226 X-Fives have been around for decades. Long before they started making X-Five this, Legion that, the Sig Mastershop in Germany was making X-Fives. Now, mind you, those were $4k handguns, so this is basically the American version. Obviously the German mastershop guns were way nicer, but you'd expect that for the price difference.
It is actually an incredible handgun for this price (vs the $2300 MSRP). I run mine in USPSA limited optics, and like shooting it so much I even sold my standard P226.

These were never going to be heavy sellers due to the price. Once you hit the $1000 mark, demand starts dropping and then subsequently every $1000 after that.
Outside of enthusiasts, most people are fine with cheap stuff. That said, these are incredibly good and keep up with nice 2011s with the reliability of the 226

The Steyr Arex stuff is en route. They employ the original 226 designer and as far as comp goes, the Steyr pistols are cheaper and more capable.
Many of the parts are open source so expect aftermarket to widen the lead there too.

Going to depend on whether you like 2011s or not. These probably have more muzzle flip just due to the 226's naturally high bore axis. Though I haven't shot the 211 to say.
