I get him selling his classic Porsches and spare parts at auction but some of the lots are just modern, off the shelf stuff like lot 209 is just a set of Sebro brake discs and pads?

He has signed some of the stuff he’s selling too. I think he’s going to be able to sell a lot of random stuff at high prices because people will want something that was owned by Magnus Walker.
He went on Spike's Car Radio last week and I think will be on The Smoking Tire today or Thursday talking about some of his collection, what he's selling, and what he's keeping and why.
They asked him why he chose Sotheby and he said 'because they put on a good show and party '. Then asked him where the auction is happening, and he said it's all online only.
Seems like a complete contradiction
Spikes.
Smoking tire podcast doesn't use timestamps or chapters or anything. It's not so bad when they have a guest and it's all basically one topic, but their regular episodes... Crazy to me in the age of AI they still don't bother to even attempt.
Honestly I kind of like it for that. Its not optimized, and frankly it doesn’t need to be. Sometimes its just a decent convo to be a fly on the wall for
While I do see your point, I've definitely done business with one company over another company because their booth parties were better, the personal connections work better or they just have a better marketing
No shade by what is this dude claim to fame? I've seen him around for a few years but obviously he is an OG in the Porsche space but why do people care?
I went down that rabbit hole after spikes podcast. He styled a lot of famous ppl in the homeless looking trend in the 90s 2000s. Had a clothing brand and owned a large facility used for shooting movies and what not. He’s done some wheel designs too and has been a staple in the Porsche community for 20+ years
Got a chance to bump into him at a car show, super nice guy, took the time to chat with me and even signed a Hot wheels version of his 277 911 (still got it)
According to a quick search, the dude was a fashion designer for a while. Eventually there was a documentary made about his love for Porsche, and he became the face of vintage Porsche collecting for a while because of it. Seems like it's just the right place at the right time (and being fairly charismatic), as far as his car enthusiasm goes.
Agreed. This is the exact same play I saw a few years ago with other major collectors who sold off their 80+ car collections save a dozen personal favorites...the rest being "just stuff." A lot of those collections were 50's and 60's cars so they timed it perfectly, Magnus is making the move with peak Porsche...for the era he collects at least.
After he self-marketed so hard that he pumped the prices up in the first place. Everyone complaining they can't afford these cars should know who to thank, him and the people who follow because they have no imagination.
I don’t you’re downvoting me. If the 1% has more money it means more money is fighting over a fixed amount of air cooled Porsches. That will push prices up. I am not speaking to social issues justbthe markets for Porsches.
I tend to agree. There are too many podcasts, cable series, forums and platforms that justify the purchase of classic cars and the people that have money will simply buy more of them. I recall the host on BaT saying that there are 25 or so people in exotic car community that hold most of the exotic cars.
Same thing happened with venture capital. I everyone wanted to find the next billion dollar company so money flooded into the market and drove insane valuations.
Real estate investing, same story.
I'm not downvoting you. But my point is that the 1% will basically be busy fearing for their lives instead of fighting over porsches when the rest have nothing to lose.
This reminds me how in Cyberpunk 2077, Johnny Silverhand's 1977 Porsche 911 Turbo can be attained and is still drivable a century later (the only licensed car in the game also), albeit with some upgrades to keep up with the times.
Cheaper as in you need less valuable stuff to trade to get one? Yes.
Cheaper as in better value? prob not considering we’ll all be on mutated donkeys since the world’s fuel supplies will have converted into water by then
I want whoever convinced him to do this to be my financial advisor. This is the best time for him to liquidate.
I also think these will be good investments for the buyers. Most are already high milage so they can drive them. They are “hero” cars with enough folklore to appreciate in the next 20 years when a museum collector wants to buy them.

This 924 turbo widebody would be my pick. So sweet!
Years of BAT listings have desensitized me, but the prices they are projecting don't seem too crazy.
Auction is live and the bids seem super low right now. Maybe market softening + bad economy. This car is a steal. And just look at the parts lots... some great deals.
Can anyone explain to me why Magnus Walker is such a big deal? I just don't get it.
I know he made some clothes for celebrities. He wrote a book about some 911 he saw as a child. All good stuff but for how notable he is I feel like I'm missing something
One of the cars in his collection was purchased from me. It's a 1978 911 that I had been running in PCA and SCCA race events, but then I hit a spot in my life where I got out of racing and started selling off all of my cars and gear.
Of all the cars I have had (including 6 Porsches) that one car I miss the most. I wish I had the funds to buy it back. (It's not one of the 18 being sold)
I met this guy randomly maybe seven or eight years ago. He was nice dude. I don't want to give any more details for privacy reasons, but I met him in a non-car space and I think he was surprised I recognized him. Not very surprised, but a little.
The good news is based on some of the talks he’s had, he’s not retiring or getting out of the game entirely. He’s just letting go of the stuff that he isn’t as attached to, parts and clutter, etc. you could probably just about build a few Porsches just from the parts on sale alone.
Magnus is a pretty down to earth guy compared to a lot of collectors, so maybe this opens the door for him to do one or two more fun builds before he retires.
