Last Sat, ate a red light right in front of a Camden NJ cop, $86 and possibly 2 points.

very much this. When I was young I used to get pulled over all the time and then I sold my GTI and got a Porsche 944. My driving habits didn't change at all but I suddenly stopped getting hassled. Of course traffic enforcement has been pretty much nonexistent here (DC/Baltimore area) since the pandemic so there's that too.
View on Reddit #80331790

EuphoricEgg63063@reddit

Cause they put speed cameras everywhere. They make crazy amounts from those.
View on Reddit #80605176

supern8ural@reddit

I have only seen them in school zones, so I really don't have a problem with people getting caught by them. I think MD allows you 12 over so 37 in a 25 MPH school zone? I'm fine with giving tickets for that. In general people driving too fast is not a problem I have with MD drivers, it's exactly the opposite. They're slow... and stupid. And drive with no lights or high beams on after dark/in the rain. Don't signal. Don't know how to use mirrors. Don't understand proper lane usage. Don't GAF if they change lanes right into you. Don't know what a red light means. Definitely cannot handle a double left turn lane. But driving too fast... that's generally not a problem. Yes, I occasionally see people driving crazy fast and weaving in and out of traffic, passing on shoulders/onramps/etc. but that's like 2% of the drivers. YMMV, most of my driving is in the area between Baltimore and DC.
View on Reddit #80605756

EuphoricEgg63063@reddit

They added a bunch to 695 and 495. >Speed cameras on Maryland’s I-495 (Capital Beltway) and surrounding work zones have generated millions in revenue, with one stretch in Prince George's County issuing over 74,000 tickets totaling over $3 million in fines in just six months. The state has issued nearly 400,000 speed camera tickets in some years, often totaling over $16 million in fines.
View on Reddit #80807048

supern8ural@reddit

That must have happened after I moved (1.5 years ago - I now pretty much commute on surface streets; if I do take the highway it's a short stretch of 695 and I-97) I still don't see simple speed as being a huge safety problem. What I do see is either drivers just simply driving with their heads up their asses, and then there's a small subset of insanely aggressive drivers. Heck, when I used to commute up 295, I rarely was able to \*reach\* the speed limit, much less exceed it.
View on Reddit #80815442

rtbradford@reddit

Yeah, they definitely dialed it back, though they seem to be stepping it up on Maryland highways recently.

People don’t believe me when I say this! When I owned a Ford Focus I would be pulled over on a whim, but now with a Mercedes it’s like crickets if I go past a cop speeding a bit. What gives?!

That’s crazy. You wouldn’t believe how many people I’ve said this to and they pretty much gaslit me. So nice to see I’m not crazy! lol I wonder why though? I’ve even been able to get parking enforcement to cancel a ticket right there when I point to my AMG! 😬

View on Reddit #80525576

Jerms2001@reddit

I worked construction with an ex cop a few years ago. We had this exact conversation. As jacked up as it is, he said people with nicer vehicles are far less likely to have issues outside of traffic infractions. More clapped out cars are where youll find more people in possession or with warrants. They use traffic monitoring more as a way to find legit criminals as opposed to actually enforcing the traffic laws
View on Reddit #80345370

JustAGuyTrynaSurvive@reddit

My father is an ex cop and I can confirm this is common practice. He had more arrests than any other cop on the force and it wasn't petty stuff. He just actually worked his whole shift and didn't spend most of it parked at the local convenience store flirting with the clerk like a lot of his fellow cops. He didn't write a ton of tickets for the number of stops he made. He pulled people over speeding over ten mph, running stop signs and turning where no turn was allowed. The point of the stop was to make contact, educate and release. Unless he found other issues like suspended license, no insurance, warrants, or driver was acting impaired.
View on Reddit #80435589

ButchDeanCA@reddit

That’s a good answer. So much for being innocent until proven guilty!
View on Reddit #80335579

thatisgoldjerrygold@reddit

It’s a more efficient way of finding actual criminals. Who gives a shit if it’s unfair if it leads to more people with warrants or driving under the influence being stopped.
View on Reddit #80356255

rtbradford@reddit

Yeah but most of those warrants are related to being poor - like having unpaid tickets, driving on a suspended license and such. They aren’t catching rapists and murderers by targeting people too poor to pay fines or repair their cars.
View on Reddit #80369161

ButchDeanCA@reddit

Well, part of jurisprudence is to treat people equally under the law. But I also understand that resources are too thin for it to be practical too.

View on Reddit #80460692

When I was younger, had no license and the car was illegal. I'd throw hubcaps on my whoopty because cops are gonna run your tags if you're in a whoopty, I would if I was a cop
View on Reddit #80451171

Fun-Machine7907@reddit

Rich people can be a pain in the ass, are harder to make a ticket stick to, and are less likely to be doing anything else wrong. Eg if you pull someone who is struggling over you might be able to tack on expired reg, expired/suspended license, insurance, safety issues, drugs etc.
View on Reddit #80333338

ParticularAgency1083@reddit

The cop is fully aware that if you have a nicer car, you can probably afford a lawyer, which means he's got a lot more work. There's also just a bias against young people. I got pulled over a lot when I was younger, and was pulled over again just about 10 years ago. no, it was more like 15.

View on Reddit #80360554

Sure, but if your driving a nice car, you’re most likely a little older and more likely to in compliance, beyond the speeding of course.
View on Reddit #80381325

VoidingSounds@reddit

Yep. I've been pulled over two times pretextually. Twice for 'your license plate looked weird.' Once when I drove a shitty Civic in an area where there was a sharp divide between the haves and the have-nots, and once when I was the only car on the highway in BFE County so the sheriff had nothing better to do than pull out, tailgate me and then pull me over when his automated plate reader didn't get a clear read. In the first case, the officer became frustrated/defensive when I was able to present current license, reg and insurance. Like stammering and shit. It was wild.
View on Reddit #80350324

ButchDeanCA@reddit

Another good answer. If they have a quota system of writing x amount of tickets per day then this mentality checks out.

View on Reddit #80362470

It actually depends some areas will pull over the expensive cars cause they are trying to make revenue off tickets and they know people with money will pay them.
View on Reddit #80350010

SteelFlexInc@reddit

Tried. I’ve gotten more tickets at younger ages in slower, shittier cars than I have in my nicer, quicker ones. You kinda figure out when/where you can let it loose, what areas to be careful, how to watch out better, but also just chill out more as you mature

This is so true. I have multiple cars. I sometimes drive one with the paint peeling and like 25 years old and cops seem more suspicious. I drive one that is just a few years newer and no paint peeling. No problem. How I know? the other day a cop raced to get behind me in my little old car. Turned the lights on enough to run my insurance when I was about to pull over he left like nothing.
View on Reddit #80343079

I got pulled over around 30 times before I was 17! I got a few tickets. Id fight them. Right before I left the high school I’d pull the fire alarm. Tiny town. All the cops would be at the high school and nobody would appear to fight me on my ticket, I’d win by default.
View on Reddit #80696110

scottreds2k@reddit

I'm almost 60 now and I rarely get pulled over, anymore. Maybe once a year or 2. When I first got my license way back in '82 it took less than 90 days (provisional license period in MD) and I got pulled over for the 1st time and I was off to the races. After a few years I had to go to the DMV to get a physical copy of my driving record. They still had dot matrix printers back then. I got up to the counter and the clerk wanted to know if I wanted the whole record or just the last 3 (or 5?) years. I chose the whole thing. Anyone remember the noise from dot matrix printers? I don't really remember how many pages it was, maybe a dozen? Dot matrix zzzzipppp, ziiiiippppp, ziiiippppp for several minutes straight. Everyone in line was laughing, even me. My insurance bills used to be soooo high.

Four times in 30 years of driving. Once was a small town cop being stupid. Twice on a country road jamming to music and not realizing how fast I was driving, and the last time was just recently when they changed the speed limit on the interstate through town and I didn't pay attention. The first three were 20 years ago. Only 1 ticket (small town cop being stupid - they had a shrub blocking your view at a stop sign and I didn't stop fully twice when I pulled forward to see if the one lane horse carriage road through town was clear) that I yelled at the cop for.

Been driving 40 years. Been pulled over 15-20 times. One night, got pulled over 3 times between 11 and midnight for having a taillight out. Third time, I politely told the officer to let the second cop know that he also had a headlight out. But my favorite “pulled over” story … I wasn’t driving but my buddy and I (in our 20s) were driving to my mom’s house to pick up my golf clubs. Beautiful summer Saturday, and we were enjoying a beer (or two) on back country roads. Got pulled over. Instead of getting out, deputy paused behind us briefly, pulled up next to us. It someone we knew through mutual friends, and he told us to slow the f- down, then drove off.

Yea. Last time I got pulled over was for trying to pass a guy going like 20mph in a 45mph zone. He had his hazards on and I waited till we got to the part of the road that had middle passing lane. I went past and the cop pulled me over. He goes why did you do that? Im like well its a passing lane. he just looked at it and goes, well okay, but people can go as slow as they want? I just said, you got it sir! and drove off.

I didn't let someone make their lane change where it would've actually been more reasonable to do so. Pulled over for a license plate light out, as the cop left i got a photo of it with the cop car at the stop sign. Took it to the chief, cop got a reprimand for that one. State patrol got me once doing 90 in a 65. I got called into work at 1am. I knew i was busted, wouldnt even had been mad if it ticketed me. 3 times in 50 years of driving: The first time I was trying to make a lunch date and received a well deserved speeding ticket. Second time a warning for expired tags. The third time I was stopped by an overzealous bicycle cop for blocking an intersection after a car backed out in front of me as I crossed said intersection. No ticket…just years of my spouse gleefully telling the tale of how the officer was huffing and puffing after chasing me several blocks. How was I supposed to know he was attempting to pull me over? Once but I deserved it. Was bringing my kid home from the dentist and she was screaming and I was going 80 in a 55 trying to get her to a store to get something to help her. Could've caused a worse situation by doing that though who knows the officer could've saved our lives! He was very nice and I didn't give him any BS and he fudged the ticket in my favor. On the other hand, I went through a roadblock and had a cop who was smart with me when I'd done nothing wrong. I recently had someone without insurance hit my car, it's a minor scratch and dent but I'm interested to see if I'll get pulled over more now. The cost to fix it is the same as the value of the car so I'm just leaving it, I was planning to get a new one soon anyway.

Maybe a dozen times, but that's over a period of more than 50 years. Some of those weren't me getting pulled over, but stopped at roadblocks where everyone was getting stopped. The times it was me getting pulled over, were mostly things like a burnt out tail-light, or an expired tab. Only for moving violations a couple of times, only got ticketed once.

In my younger days, almost daily. I'd always be at the street race spots, or at the party spots, and my car just looks guilty (slammed e30). I didn't even keep my license in my wallet, it is paper clipped to my registration and insurance, all in the door pocket because I got stopped so much. Cops would actually laugh and say "You must do this often" As I got older, and I started driving the same vehicle as the police do (4runner land here) that stopped. I also don't frequent those troublesome spots anymore. I was actually waiting on parts for my 4runner, so I pulled out the old e30 and had fun driving it around. Then I got pulled over, first time in a decade. Just like old times.

Less than 10 in last 25 years. 8 of them in Ohio ( notoriously known as very cop driven state in my 20's). You can get a ticket easily going 1 mph over speed limit. My mom once got pulled over closing her window and just swerved tiny bit because she glanced down for 1 second in Ohio. Moved to Washington state 15 yrs ago only once on hwy but just warning.

5? First time getting pulled over was during the pandemic. Took a shortcut through the high school and the cop followed me. It was dark. He flew up my butt and didn’t realize what it was because he had no lights on. Panicking, I fled and called 911 to report being followed only to be told I need to pull over because it was an officer. No Ticket, only wanted to tell me it was private property and I needed to stay off. Second time I was pulling out of my house a little slow. I live on a Main Street. Coo thought I just pulled out in front of him without stopping first but that was false. No ticket. Got pulled over on the highway for going 71 in a 55. Ticketed. Got pulled over for tint a year after I got it. No ticket, verbal warning. Last time, was going pretty fast up a Main Street with two lanes. Probably 60 in a 45. Cop didn’t have me on radar but I saw him and knew it was game over. Told him I was late for a hair cut appointment and let me go with a written warning for speed and tint, only because he was stationary and not running radar.

When I worked evenings it was about 6 times a year. No tickets.same was happening to a coworker who would drive the same route. Often we would get pulled over in the same night minutes apart. I would get pulled over for having a license plate light out. Even though it wasn't. Or just pulled over for headlight being out, and other minor that really doesn't justify pulling a person over like 1 out 6 taillights not working or being dim. I thought I was going to get a ticket once because the 3rd time in a month I got pulled over, no reasons last time but this time a license plate light (which was fine) after working 17 hours I asked the officer how stupid he would feel if he got hit on the side of the road over a stupid light. But low and behold the light was fine and I was my way. To his credit he laughed. Sorry no unibomber moment for you. That department did get in trouble and had to get rid of some of its staff so it's slowed down from what my coworker has told me

3 times. The first time I had just gotten a car from my brother he dropped it off and gave me the title, said happy birthday and took off. I was 19 and didn’t realize I had to register in my name and get car insurance, so I was driving it for about 2 months when i finally got pulled over. The cop was cool told me what I needed to do to be legal, but still wrote a ticket for broken break light, failure to register vehicle with in 30 days and no car insurance. I went to court with everything legal and plead not guilty and asked for a jury trial. Come day of court the cop didn’t show up and they dismissed the case. The 2nd time I got a warning because my windshield was cracked I got it replaced and that was that. This cop I think was fishing for something but I was legal all the Way he did ask if he could search my car m, but I said no and that was that. The 3rd time I was driving through small towns that go from 70 to 55 to 45 to 35 then as you are leaving it goes back up to 70 the same way. Well I missed the the 55 speed limit and kept my speed at 70 until the cop pulled me over, also gave me a warning also a cool cop.

Pre Florida Super Speeder Law. (MARCH 2025.) Late night stop maybe like midnight I was on a date, trying to impress this guy I liked... Cop caught me going 106mph in a 45mph at the time (jax, fl beach) and I didnt even get told to leave the car/handcuffs, he didnt take me to jail, he simply gave me a court date. I paid $400 for a laywer to show up, cause I was working that day, and then they got me guilty (obviously), but no misdemeanor, no felony, no suspension, only $1100 in "court fees/fines" and a couple points on my record. And yeah my insurance is higher but it is what it is. I was in a newer brand new straight piped bright orange muscle car at the time, military, 20 years old so maybe thats why they were so easy on me? They didnt even ask if I had guns/drugs in the car or anything. I had proper traffic stop etiquette and they were chill with me.

I grew up with a solid lead foot, from 16 to 25 I averaged 1-2 tickets a year for speeding or something related to speed. I've gotten out of quite a few with warnings or various other things. I also had a car that gave off "anti authoritarian" vibes according to a woman I dated. At one point it felt like the cops had my photo on their dash and would pull me over whenever they saw me. All in all, I'd say probably more than 20 but less than 60. It has gotten less as I've gotten older but what's really changed was being smarter with regards to speed and when/where to do it. If you're honest and polite most cops will work with you. Last time I got pulled over was a cop that paced me at 10 over, I simply apologized and said I saw the speed drop from 55 to 40 but didn't see the 40 to 30 drop.

Filed a complaint with the Police Comish in that Burb, 3rd...Window Tint. I live in Michigan and my tint level is legal here but apparently it is NOT in Indiana where I was driving to Indianapolis. I lost track after 50. Those were all from ages 16-21. I've only added a handful more over the last 20 years. There's only about 7 moving violations. Lots of warnings, fix it tickets, and other bs. Only one speeding ticket and only one ticket involving an accident. Dumbest reason was for a stolen vehicle matching my description. Mind you, this was a modified car, so didn't look like regular traffic. He sited me for no insurance, which I had, and was later, immediately dismissed by the county clerk. 3 moving violations are from the same officer, within about 6 months. He was a real dick. These were super dumb, small things, like blocking an intersection, despite being pulled past the oncoming traffic, and not sticking out from the stop bar line extended. No dash cam back then, so lost all 3 in court. I avoided that city at all costs after that. One involved me being escorted out of town by an officer. One involved running and trying to hide from the cops. No ticket on that one 😂 One ticket while visiting Canada. He couldn't get me on speeding and wrote me for passing approaching crest of grade, even though the lanes were marked for passing where I was. He was super pissed. Probably because I initially refused to pull over. He was in personal car, no uniform. He pulled into the oncoming lane a few times, trying to get me to pull off. I thought he was just some crazy guy so no way. Eventually he flashed his badge. The ticket was a stretch but again, no dash cams. Probably thought I'd just pay it. I just came back to the states. They don't talk to most of the US. That ticket eventually dropped from their system on its own.

I have a spreadsheet. 44 individual traffic stops. A total of 26 different violations. 19 tickets. 3 license suspensions totaling 6 months. But that was mostly when I was younger, like late teens to early 20's. The last time was in 2010 for rolling through a stop sign at 2am in the middle of nowhere. The 2 dumbest reasons I've been pulled over: dirty license plate-this stop got my ex girlfriend arrested. What I didn't know at the time...or ever while dating her, was that she had a warrant for her arrest for failure to appear. Cop pulled me over and in the course of the normal BS questions asked her name. She paused and then gave a fake name. Cop told me to get out of the car, cuffed me, and put me in the back of his cruiser. Then asked me what her real name is because she clearly lied. Off to jail she went. lol Second was cop saw someone hanging out of a gray vehicle while driving down the road. My car was black. I was driving a Mustang, the guy was hanging out of the passenger window of a gray S-10 trying to taunt me into a race. Cop and 6 other units pulled me over. I didn't run...they were just all bored and hoped I'd do something stupid. I got super lippy with that cop because F him.

It sucked. Kinda crazy, during that last suspension, where I lost my license for 3 months, I was working for the government and my work site had me parking in the same lot as the road patrol deputies. 0, and it's definitely cause of luck. I'm 23 and have been driving since I was 17, I'd go down back roads with my miata quicker than I should and nearly got pulled over one time by a cop sitting around a bend with their lights already on, but I was quick enough to slow down, although he definitely heard me downshifting before that corner. I was also driving with a group of my friends on our way to go drag racing on an empty straightaway, and a cop was in front of our group and did a full loop around a roundabout and ended behind us and pulled half the group over for "tailgating" him which we weren't. Also that cop was an ass right from the start. First thing he says to my friend is "why are you driving up my ass".

Leaving a gas station and forgetting to turn my headlights back on when I was 16. Pulled over for 10 miles over the speed limit on a road that I'd used thousands of times after it was repaved and then they changed the speed limit before reopening the road, I was 18. One was ridiculous, female cop pulled me over saying she paced my speed as I was going straight after getting off the main highway too a cross over merger? She was on the on ramp that is 3/4ths of a circle doing this btw.. I called her out on how that's impossible, she then accused me of being drunk, sobriety tests 5 different ones, then breathalyzer, I blew zeros, then she searched me car, nothing. Gave me a ticket for more than the speed she claimed she paced me and put on the ticket radar, I was 19. A month later I was pulled over by her again on the way to the court house to fight it, she never got out of the crusier, just sat behind me with her lights on for 15min on the side of the road then left, I still went to the court house. As soon as I walked in I was told it was dropped. Four various times in my early 20s right after being a good friend and driving my drunk friends to bars to drop them off safe. Two separate times borrowing my brothers car. They thought he was driving and pulled me over only for that, no infraction. Both got to the window and said who are you? Three times in one commute home from work (35min drive), this was so ridiculously weird, every single one said it was because my license expired the next day. Each one I asked if there was any lawful reason to pull me over progressively more irritable. I was 24. Speed trap on my way to Yellowstone where I swear it dropped 20 miles in maybe 400 ft. I was 32? 2022 by a motorcycle cop because someone stole my registration sticker, I showed him my valid registration paperwork, renewed 4 months prior. He still wrote me a ticket.. ( I live in the greater Denver area so anyone from around here at all can tell you how absolutely ridiculous even being pulled over in the first place for that is here) the ticket was for the sticker not being able to be read clearly ( the violation was the one for obstructed plate unreadable to automatic license plate) mind you this man was on a motorcycle and I was courteous to him. It was over 300 dollars and a 3 point violation. I went to court and thankfully the magistrate heard me out and threw out the ticket. 15 times, 4 tickets, 2 thrown out by going to court.

I think a total of 8 times. I've gotten 3 tickets, 2 for excessive speeding, conveniently, 1 mph over the threshold and I didn't have a way to prove I wasn't. The 3rd ticket I was *actually* excessively speeding (though I thought I was just going 10 over but he clocked me going 2 mph faster than I thought I was. Also, it was a 55 instead of a 70 like I thought) he have me a "failure to obey road signs" which was a $30 ticket I could pay online and didn't need go to court in another state. I haven't been pulled over in the last 8 years

Over 12 times from 16-20 years old. Several speeding tickets, tinted ticket, ATV on public roads, etc. It hasn't affected me negatively either. I turn my hazards on as soon as I know they are pulling me over. I roll down all windows and place my hands on the wheel. I let them know if I am reaching for my wallet and ask what I did wrong to get pulled over. They usually tell me right away what I did wrong and no issue otherwise.

Just came back from 6500 mile trip back east in my 1999 BMW and didn’t get pulled over at all, not even in police states like PA/SC/AL. In any room, I’ve never met anyone pulled over more than I have been in my 30yrs of driving. Period. 99% were because I was speeding within 10-15MPH more than limit. One time I was pulled over because of having ~420W of high wattage lights. Multiple times I’ve been pulled over for passing a trooper on the highway (never ticketed in those situations). In fact, I’ve been pulled over so much, part of my routine is taking selfies w/ the officer either from inside the car or outside. One funny time on a 2-lane road headed up to a ski area during summer time, I was on a test drive in a friend’s 340whp Datsun 510 passing a line of about 13 cars that were stuck behind a camper going uphill. I was at about 80 (in a 50) in the oncoming lane when a trooper pops up over the crest of a hill in the distance.

22-28 13 times, maybe 8 tickets all together. In 7 different cars, so it was a driver issue. There’s a point where the dmv sends you a shaming letter that is designed to make you feel guilty about your driving. After reading that, I felt embarrassed and dumb. Funny thing is people say take it to the track, but going to track during that time inspired even worse driving on the road. Since then, driver has screwed on his head a bit straighter, and has been pulled over 0 times since then. I also stopped going to the track and got an slow automatic car, nothing I want to rev out. He asked me if I'd had anything to drink and I said yes, one beer, even though it had been a few hours since my single beer. So I had to do a breathalyzer. I blew 0.00. Once we got focused on the possibility of impaired driving, the conversation about me being 34 kph over the limit went away. Once I blew 0.00, that conversation also ended and he sent me on my way. I said to him, "you literally saw my headlight blow out right in front of you." Then we just went on from there, gave me 2 equipment violation tickets one for the loud exhaust, and another because i had a hood scoop on it, said it blocked my visibility. The headlight out ticket, an inspection ticket, and because i had a lighted license plate frame he gave me a unclear plate ticket. Then had the nuts to say i'm gibing you a break on other ones. SO i said oh gee thanks for that... It was a clapped out 81 camaro cherry bomb mufflers semi built 350 in it. Wouldn't pass the smog test for nothing. I didn’t apply my brakes but downshifted enough to drop my speed to legal limit (45), but I flew by him going 85. He followed me for a couple miles before lighting me up and then making a u turn and leaving. He didn’t have me on radar and couldn’t pace me since I was already at legal speed by the time he caught up so he knew he basically had nothing to write me up for.

My city is 9sq miles you think I put almost 50k miles there in 3 years? I've literally been all over my state in that car. Now I drive my e46 bmw, I have yet to get pulled over.

One ticket at 18 and I got pulled over 5-6 more times in my early 20s, all for speeding (mostly deserved). Haven't been pulled over in the past 9ish years since then.

Substantial_Team6751@reddit

We moved to a smaller town (100k) and I've gotten pulled over 4 times in 2 years - **no tickets**. They pull up behind us if we drive down the main drag and will scrutinize our car. I drive 5mph over max in town. I think the reason is that our car has gotten older. 2006 Honda Pilot - 220k - a few minor dents. Runs perfect so no reason to replace it. We actually have the cash to buy a new car when the time comes. I conclude that cops just target people that look poor. If we had a newer car, I gather that we'd garner zero attention. When I had a brand new VW Jetta (always kept it shiny), I got pulled over like twice in ten years. I had a Porsche 911SC and a 914 - got pulled over once over many years - no ticket. I had a new Nissan Leaf - no stops. I could name a few other newer cars that we had that got zero attention. This feels like when I was a late teen driving my dad's old VW with an off color fender. Every time I'd drive through this certain upscale town I'd often have a cop on my bumper running my registration or looking for some reason to pull me over. Or, they'd pull me over, tell me to slow it down and let me go. But I wasn't speeding. If you drive a grandma car like a beige Camry, cops won't even look in your direction. Or if you drive a newer car that is not a hot rod and you look affluent, they will leave you alone.

OK, a two part answer. For the first 3 decades, 58 times. In the past 15 years, twice when they let me go without a ticket because I have a perfect record. When I moved states, all my tickets disappeared from my record. Plus, I started investing in good radar detectors and other counter measures. I've also been driving MX-5/Miatas for around twelve years that have a much smaller radar cross section meaning they have to be fairly close to get a lock.

3 times total, been driving for 5.5 years, had a car for 2.5 My dipped beam stopped working just when driving out of town, an officer came behind me and saw my lights were suspicious, stopped me and then told me to drive back home. Drove to a friend's house to put up the front bumper I had fixed. It was past its inspection date by 1 day. Got stopped by an undercover car, I told them the story, they let me drive to fix it after I showed them the booking for the inspection which was in 2 days. Ran out of gas on my way to get gas, stopped traffic right before an intersection, got a friend to get me a can of gas so I could drive and fill up. When I start the engine I see blue flashing lights and pull up and stop behind me. I explained to them that when I ran out of gas, I tried to block as little traffic as possible. They told me to drive and keep a better eye on the fuel gauge. I always needed to provide ID. I showed respect and was shown respect back on all occasions

4. First time was after putting a snorkel on my Jetta, floored it coming out of a turn and MP pulled me over. It was a 2.0, snorkel was loud as fuck but the car was slow, so I never made it over the speed limit by the time I saw the lights. Got a warning. Second time I was actually speeding in a Chevy Trailblazer. Empty road, state trooper pulled me over. I was apparently doing 20 over and had to go to court, got it reduced to improper use of equipment instead of points on my license. Third time was because I had my front plate in my windshield instead of on my front bumper. Got a warning and wound up bolting it to my bumper. Last time was just past Dallas going towards Austin. Going about 85 and following traffics speed, but got singled out of like 20 cars going the same speed. Im still mad about that one

Mostly for fairly minor things like expired registration, 13, 12 and 9km/h over the speed limit, once in a group of cars heading somewhere (was at the back of the pack not speeding and didn’t have any problems), and one time for distracted driving which I proved was incorrect in court.

Probably 7 times in 34 years of driving, which sounds like a lot. I like exercising my memory so here goes: Ticket 60 in a 35 at 17. Dad was mad, town had a first timers program where I could get it expunged through community service. Did that. Ticket 40 in a 25 at 20 by university police Got a warning at some point around 20 by highway patrol as well Around 22 I was on an unfamiliar 4 lane road in an Industrial area - blew through a stop sign. Sheriff pulled me over and pulled up beside me screamed bloody murder at me “YOU BLEW IT BUD!!! IF I DIDNT HAVE TO GO TO A ROBBERY IN PROGRESS RIGHT NOW YOU’D BE IN BIG TROUBLE!” Then he tore out of there. Never got pulled over again until I was 34, speed trap in my town - down hill area where people start speeding - 60 in a 45. $150 ticket Got another highway patrol warning for 75 in a 65 around that same time. Then most recently about 2 years ago in an unfamiliar area, road was 60, then suddenly a school zone with no flashing lights, I just wasn’t paying attention. He cut it down to 50 in a 25, but it still cost a fortune, like $255 then who knows what it’s added to my insurance.

Once. I was going home from work with two colleagues in the car, late at night. The regular street was half-blocked so you had to wait for minutes for a terrible temporary traffic light, so I drove the straight path in a bus lane, I never do otherwise but it was so late that there was no busses coming, and I would have to take a long detour or sit and wait for that stupid light. A car, the only car we'd seen for minutes, comes from the opposite direction, and it's a cop car. I try to keep my cool and just continue on like nothing, both the other guys tries to get me to drive off fast as soon as we passed a corner, but that would have been stupid (especially since that street was a 30 kph street), and I could see the cop car in the mirror making a U-turn. They followed me to where I was dropping of one of the guys, and blocked me in, then one cop came running with the gun out yelling at me to stay in the car. She proceeded to yell at me for several minutes, the other two cops was just standing by the cop car with smirks on their faces. "This could become expense..:" "And it's taxed money, so even more expensive..." stuff like that. I was just apologetic and explained why I took that path. The guy I was dropping of really hated cops though so he started arguing with her, and it got pretty heated. "Back off! Back off!" "I am allowed to stand here" etc. And I knew that idiot had a fucking knife on him, so why argue with the cops? After a while she seemed to run out of steam, so she shouted to the other cops to "write me up", they just answered "No". So she yelled at me some more, then got in the cop car and they left. Two times I have also been stopped in a sobriety check, but that was no big deal. That's it, for over 25 years of driving, and even working as a driver for some years.
