My DBS check at stage 4 for almost 2 weeks. Is this normal?

I’m starting an apprenticeship working within my local council and I sorted the application for a DBS on 9th feb with my soon-to-be employer. it’s now 9th march and the dbs has been stuck at stage 4 (local police) for almost 2 weeks now, since the 25th feb. i was wondering if this is normal and if anyone has an idea of how much longer i will be waiting? the study portion of my apprenticeship starts at the end of april so i’m hoping to be working before then.

yes got mine on the 1st april! i did try sending an email claiming hardship but it didn’t seem to do much. i think its just a case of waiting 💔

I work for a DBS Registered Umbrella company. We have our own statistics for how long the Disclosure and Barring service actually take after they get the submission from us.
For Enhanced, about 15% come back within 48 hours, then about 55% within 7 days.
By day 14, you're at nearly 80%, and by the end of a month it is 96%.
Thereafter, there are some that take as good deal longer. They are 99% of the time stuck with the Police Forces. It isn't an official methods, but I've heard people get success with ringing 101 and talking to the local police force that has their DBS check pending. You might be able to hurry them along!

It varies by police force I think. But mine was stuck for 6 weeks with my local police before I heard back. Good luck. I hope you don't have to wait too long.

oh okay then, that’s not so bad! i just wish they would give me a timescale so I’m not just sat here waiting haha, i keep worrying myself sick that its gonna take too long and i’d lose my apprenticeship (even though realistically i know that wont happen, but my anxiety wont listen 😭😂)

mines the exact same, no still not heard anything! even my employer has stopped responding to emails so i’m worried i’m about to be kicked off the placement 😭 today i sent an email to the dbs service so hopefully i will get some info

I got mine now by emailing hardship escalation. You can do the same if you need to.
Here is a email template:
Subject: HARDSHIP ESCALATION REQUEST – YOURNAME– [E0*****]
Dear DBS Customer Services,
I am writing to enquire about the progress of my Enhanced DBS application, which has now been in process for several weeks and is currently at Stage 4 (local police records check).
Application details: Full Name: Your name Date of Birth: Your Date or birth Current Address: Your address Application Reference Number: Your dbs reference number
As I am unable to begin my role until the DBS check is completed, which is causing financial difficulty. I would therefore be very grateful if the status of my application could be reviewed and please escalated to the relevant team.
