Reddit gave me the most nonsense notification for this
THEHANDSOMEKIDDO@reddit
Ah yes the birthplace for technicals or was thar libya💀
C4n0fju1c3@reddit
The first technical imo was the Tachanka invented by Nestor Makhno during the Russian Civil War. Wikipedia claims the British did it first during the Colonial wars, but screw giving the British credit for anything.
_Landryn_@reddit
Wasn't it invented by Popov?
Bad_Badger_DGAF@reddit
The Pinkerton Detectives mounted a Maxium gun on a Model T to put down a miner strike in 1910 or so.
Atholthedestroyer@reddit
I thought the Pinks used a Colt 'Potato Digger'?
Bad_Badger_DGAF@reddit
I thought the miners had the Grave Digger? Either way, MG on a T was like, the first thing we ever did when the tech for both got in public hands.
Atholthedestroyer@reddit
Now I'm working on memories of something I read years ago, so take anything I say with a grain of salt (and probably a slice of lime and a shot of tequila), but I think the miners only had a few hunting rifles/shotguns plus some dynamite...the Pinks were just told to end things NOW, so they brought their MG. The strike had been going on for a while, and the Bosses wanted it handled.
C4n0fju1c3@reddit
Blair Mountain took place in 1921 and featured bombers alongside various gating and machine guns (mostly Lewis Guns and Maxims). The US government, Baldwin Felts, and various mining companies also deployed WWI gas weapons against the miners.
Atholthedestroyer@reddit
Okay... thought it was pre-WW1, and didn't realize it got THAT intense. Thanks
C4n0fju1c3@reddit
The thing I'm talking about I think might be a seperate instance from what you're remembering, actually.
Bad_Badger_DGAF@reddit
There were pre-WWI events between workers and Pinkertons that involved armed aircraft and vehicles.
Shit was wild in our great-great- grandparents day.
Bad_Badger_DGAF@reddit
Tequila is the only proper way to sit down and talk about some obscure history... well, I'm more of a bourbon guy but hey.
C4n0fju1c3@reddit
Damn, you're right and Makhno would've been using the same gun, a Maxim PM 1910. Also the Virginia Mine Wars really should be taught as part of standard US public education, but we all know it never will be.
Bad_Badger_DGAF@reddit
If you feel better when I was an APUSH teacher I did teach it.
C4n0fju1c3@reddit
That does make me feel better. Things like the Battle of Blair Mountain and the Tulsa Massacre, I didn't learn about until I was in my 30's. And I only learned about them by chance discovery via YouTube and various podcasts.
Bad_Badger_DGAF@reddit
The sad truth is that we don't have a ton of time in a school year to teach all of the important stuff. I would tell my students that my primary goal was to give them a desire to learn more on their own via Podcasts, Library audiobooks, etc.
Unfortunately the last non-fiction that most people read is their school textbook.
_Landryn_@reddit
I would say that the birthplace for technicals was 1918 Zaporzhia
BookHunter_7@reddit
I think that was Chad (with the Toyota War with Libya) or Somalia (in the 90s).
paxwax2018@reddit
The LRDG in WWII, so my vote goes to Libya.
Sylvester_Marcus@reddit
I think those were Land Rovers. Or The Rat Patrol IN COLOR!
Atholthedestroyer@reddit
The LRDG also had Chevy 1 tons... once again all stripped down and covered in guns

DontYouTrustMe@reddit
Probably to slaughter civilians
Dunderman35@reddit
Is there any compelling reason they fight these constant war where millions suffer or they just like to drive around like this and shoot at shit?
MessaBombadWarrior@reddit
It's called the Sudanese Civil War
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudanese_civil_war_%282023%E2%80%93present%29
Dunderman35@reddit
Yep, and as the wiki states it's essentially a power struggle between two factions of the "government". And for his power struggle millions suffer. All wars are terrible and ultimately pointless but this one seems even more so than most.
a_Bean_soup@reddit
The RSF are literally a genocidal militia with the purpose of arabizing the region and exterminating the black population
Ljcp27@reddit
Ah yes, the barbarian tribes quibbling over nothing important. No need to worry your poor heart about it.
Dunderman35@reddit
Are they quibbling over something important? Like I'm genuinely wondering.
Ljcp27@reddit
You insinuate barbarism, quite obviously. It really doesn't matter if it's "important". War NEVER occurs because of importance, this is the lie that empire's enacting colonialism has implanted in you. You don't view war as wrong, you view people you deem less than, as wrong. If you want to find out what wars are about I'd recommend reading news articles or going on Wikipedia, but here's a hint, they aren't EVER worth the cost.
Dunderman35@reddit
This is kinda what I was getting at. The pointlessness of it. Just a bit edgy formulation since everyone here is more kinda cracking jokes. I believe war is deep down just human greed, and human fear. Wherever the war is.
You are reading a whole lot into this that doesn't represent how I think at all.
SolidPrysm@reddit
Sudan is one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse regions on the planet. Colonial intervention completely disoriented its borders and moved everyone around, so millions of people have been discombobulated on a national scale for a while now, leading to a lot of conflict.
Add in religious tension, the Saudis sending weapons to the area, and the constantly collapsing infrastructure typical of the region and you have a recipe for chaos
Illustrious-Sky-4631@reddit
And UAE , especially UAE
frankieknucks@reddit
Ask the pedos in the white house that same question.
Dunderman35@reddit
Yeah ok. The question remains though.
