ULPT How to disable Flock cameras?
Posted by JSpell@reddit | UnethicalLifeProTips | View on Reddit | 66 comments
Title says it all. Looking for ways people could destroy flock cameras to maintain their privacy form third party companies selling/sharing their information. I know you can physically destroy them but I was curious about more subtle ways to disable them.....for science of course. Thanks for the help.

The trick is staying out of view while you do it.
.22 caliber pellet gun. 5w handheld laser. Baseball bat from behind.
I live in a rural area where all our stop signs have bullet holes in them.
heyitscory@reddit
A baseball cap with infrared LEDs under the bill will wash your face out with white light on the camera, but looks like a regular baseball cap to anyone looking at you with their eyes.
sleestakarmy@reddit
Dexters latest season showed us that trick
chromebaloney@reddit
And it's legit. I saw some not-the mythbusters make IR equipped glasses and their face was a white blob on their night vision cam test setup.
Rick-l-Sanchez@reddit
Can you post a link to this video?
ajaxburger@reddit
Flock cameras operate on visible light as well. This won’t make a difference
beren12@reddit
Do they have IR filters? If not they still can’t see you at night.

Sick

Someone should sell these
leisuresuitbruce@reddit
Firearms are a crime in themselves, and firing in the city limit a second one. But paintball guns...
Recent-Dance-8423@reddit
well it’s a fuckin good thing a pellet gun isn’t a firearm
The_Arch_Heretic@reddit
Most townships and city ordinances consider them as such though.
beren12@reddit
Most? Source?
The_Arch_Heretic@reddit
The confiscation of mine for plinking a can in my backyard! I got it back, but what a stupid ordeal. 😙👆
beren12@reddit
So 1.
JSpell@reddit (OP)
In NJ it is.....as dumb as that is. You need a FID card to purchase one.
beren12@reddit
And “silenced” ones will send you to jail.
leisuresuitbruce@reddit
Fuck yeah!
Dregan3D@reddit
Untrue on the first point, nor should they be. True on your second point however.
But.
Destroying or defacing public property (the camera, or the pole it's on, whatever) is actually a crime. Not that I'm against it, just pointing out the actual facts.
cipri_tom@reddit
Where I live, lasers over 0.2 W are also illegal.

Back in the before times, ~late 90's- o used to be into paintball as a hobby. Lots of fun! In the off season, dead of winter the paintballs would freeze so we simply couldn't play. Painful and dangerous.
Dumb me decided to try other things in the chamber, just to see what works, ya know?
You know what you should never ever use? Marbles.
They're dense and undersized so they won't go more than 150-ish feet per second, but holy shit they fucking DAMAGE whatever they land on.
Damage enough that landing any hits on the back side of a solar panel, or attached electronics would certainly be effective.
Let me reiterate- don't do this.
leisuresuitbruce@reddit
they call them bladerunners in the UK.

When that guy gets pulled in for questioning he’s 100% going to go “yeah I did that and I’ll do it again”. Total goofy energy! https://youtube.com/shorts/3xyvGvGSnoQ?si=56bYiaJYSJshL7KC

I remember back in the 90's we were hearing that the UK already had a massive surveillance network. CCTV cams everywhere in the cities. Pretty effective, too. It's pretty small compared the the US. Easier to get mass coverage. With license plate readers, high quality cmos sensors, and massive databases, they are starting to be effective here as well.
JPJackPott@reddit
There was a lot of CCTV, but with the exception of London Underground it wasn’t all networked together. That’s probably not as true any more, there’s a nationwide network of ANPR cameras on the motorways. People accept it’s for crime prevention and generally don’t worry about it.
There’s also a lot of average speed cameras but people only worry about those for speeding, they don’t generally except humans to be looking at that data to be checking up on you.
The ones being chopped down in London are for charging a daily tax on driving in the city (on top of the existing daily tax for driving in the city). They are against the charge more than the privacy aspects
DuckyDoodleDandy@reddit
The cameras are insured, so destroyed units are replaced.
Disabled units may take longer since they have to be evaluated for repair or replacement.

So if you have access to a high power cordless impact still, unbolt the base of the pole they are on and smash, from a distance a high powered green astronomers laser pointer should burn out the sensors, you can find a scope mount for long distance accuracy.
Gold_for_Gould@reddit
One big key is not using a vehicle to get to where the cameras are. Leave your house by bicycle and start on the cameras further away from where you live. Use bike paths away from the streets to avoid cameras.

Like a flashlight? What do you mean
DuckyDoodleDandy@reddit
Most flashlights are electric not electronic.
Dropitlikeitscold555@reddit
Bring a fleshlight. Just to confuse them.
The_Arch_Heretic@reddit
And for God's sake don't bring your spy surveillance phone along when/if you're ever going to do something "suspicious."

green laser to the lens
thermal_shock@reddit
Not exactly. This guy tried to destroy a basic cctv and couldn't really damage his own
https://youtu.be/1oh-9hEa-Mc
beachbum818@reddit
Yea bc that's a weak one. There's different grades. You dont need a $1000 one to get the job done but a $10 one prob wont do it.
boyengabird@reddit
They're not hard to disable. Its hard to not get caught. The last guys high score was 3 cameras before he got busted, gait recognition, height/weight/race recognition, bluetooth signals (TPMS sensors, smart watch, ear buds, ect) previously associated with your plate, IMEI #, security cams from across the street, the list is probably longer but thats what came to my mind. Take care, this ain't your grandpappy's convenience store security camera writing to VHS tape.
enutz777@reddit
My wife was worried because one popped up at the end of my street one day. Next morning she asked me if I destroyed it. Love my neighbors.
thermal_shock@reddit
This is the problem with any crime, actually getting away with it.
djmere@reddit
Pay homeless people to take them out. 🤷🏾♂️
MET1@reddit
Simple - remove the power supply. Yes there is a little solar panel, but there are going to be wires: snip or just disconnect enough so there is less suspicion when the camera is checked by Flock support. Or get a drone to carry a thick light-blocking fabric up and onto the solar panet - bonus points if you can cover that fabric with something that resembles the solar panel so it's harder to notice.
Super-Travel-407@reddit
I thought this is for UNethical tips. Isn't disabling these kind of ethical?
:)
thermal_shock@reddit
Only logical, reasonable people think it's ethical to destroy them.
redrider02@reddit
You find access to a 1/2 ton or bigger truck. (Or steal an older truck that is easy to start) Take the plates off. You wear a mask and sunglasses and hat. You hook up a tow strap from the hitch of the truck to the flock camera pole. You yank the pole from the ground. You release the slack and unhook the tow strap. You leave the scene.
maowai@reddit
These things ID cars even without plates.
redrider02@reddit
Even today there are plenty of trucks on the road that are relatively easy to drive away with without an ignition key.
Bigfoots44@reddit
Long range laser shot? I'm thinking laser with a scope mounted.
ImToo0ldForThisShit@reddit
Simply put a trash bag over it and tape the open end so that it hugs the pole.
chuckaholic@reddit
Paintball or this.

Same as red light cameras. Hang an old tire over it, pour diesel in the bottom, light on fire. The tire holds the flame around the box and diesel burns slow not explosive like gas. Bye bye all electronics...
