I stared at this question for ages, trying to think of all the places I’ve been to and the things that would make me go back there. For me, the journey to the place is part of the experience. (Railway enthusiast.) The first thing I do before going somewhere is to visit street view, see what the railway station is like. I did the ‘Heart of Whales’ line a couple of years ago. There is a section that is single track, and the train had to wait for ten or fifteen minutes so that an oncoming service could clear the section. I found myself in this quaint little Welsh village. Llandovery if I’m not mistaken. It was beautiful there.

the Lake District for me. went with my wife before the baby arrived and it was one of those trips where you just breathe differently. stayed in a little cottage near Ambleside, walked Loughrigg Fell, ate too much sticky toffee pudding. we keep saying we'll go back now with the little one but honestly the thought of packing for a baby for a weekend away is more exhausting than the fell itself. one day though.

I went to Windermere last year and I fell in love with the place. I'm from Essex, which is extremely flat. Getting a view of any sort is a thrill but I will never forget hiking to a mountain top and seeing Lake Windermere, the sheer size and beauty of it.

The ones I've seen are: Weald & Downland Living Museum Blists Hill Victorian Town Amberley Museum & Heritage Centre ... and I recommend them all. I've just added Beamish to my bucket list.

You can go back any time over the next year. I used to live nearby & once popped in & got the tram into the village just to buy some bread, as it was free to revisit. The bread was all stale by the next day. I prefer living in the future.

You should go. We normally go in autumn or towards Christmas because the vibe is just magical but I think Spring/Summer must be nice as well with longer days to roam around. Consider the area around Bourton On The Water, Stow On The Wold, Broadway, Moreton In Marsh, Chipping Norton, Burford and make a stop at Daylesford farm for a fancy breakfast/brunch (be aware it can be pricey though). When you say Cotswolds people tend to go to Bibury, it’s nice don’t get me wrong but it’s just overcrowded these days.

York for me too, although I've been once as a child and once as an adult. As an adult, I took my boyfriend to the York Castle Museum and deliberately didn't tell him about the Victorian street that's in there (Kirkgate). We walked in and his face just lit up, and he goes "It's like we just walked into the Holodeck on Star Trek!!" Absolutely made my day seeing him light up like that.

I have a theory that anywhere you go when you’re on holiday, we’ll, you’re on ruddy holiday so see things differently. So although we have been to lovely touristy places like Chester, Edinburgh, Stamford, the Cotswolds, York, Bath, Beverley and Harrogate, we’ve also been to places like Bradford, Hull and Peterborough, and each has its own charm - well maybe not Peterborough…. And when someone says why did you go to say Bradford, invariably they have never been and are going off preconceptions, whereas we had a cracking time at Salts Mill and the National Science and Media Museum…

Glasgow. Went last summer for a music festival. The place has a very rough reputation, and I was a little apprehensive. But it seems as though the reputation is outdated. The city centre is really nice. You can take a walk down the river, there's cool architecture everywhere, and loads of nice ale pubs. The people are great also. Would definitely recommend it

A bit odd but as a southern rural country bumpkin, I really enjoyed a weekend in Shoreditch, London a few years ago. Stayed in the CitizenM hotel, street art LITERALLY everywhere, you can even take a tour for the most notable ones. They had an interactive Van Gogh experience when I was there, which was amazing! Had a gander down fleet street, had some amazing street food, found a decently quiet spot for a smoke not far from the hotel, and it just seemed so culturally alive compared to my rural village. Would love to go back there again!

Recently visited Llangollen in North Wales as part of an overnight stay for my birthday as a gift from my partner, although we were only there for around half a day in total the scenery and town itself was stunning, some lovely independent shops, pubs, places to eat - however with it being January wasn’t too much life or things open - would definitely be open to revisiting once the peak months begin.

The Tank museum in Dorset. Was probably getting on 15 years ago now we went when we were camping in that area. Was a toss up between that and monkey world and I won the case for the Tank museum but my wife enjoyed it as much as I did and it was surprisingly (to us anyway) huge with so much to see - I recall us being there for a large chunk of the day. Would definitely stump up for one of the driving experiences, assuming they still do them, if/when we went again.

There's two small towns on north Coast of Scotland, Banff and macduff. I went on motorcycle tour of Scotland some years back, and these two were somewhere I really want to go back to. They sort of look at each other over a river mouth and it's fascinating. Little dock area in Macduff we stayed in a hotel near. Gorgeous. I didn't get to look around even half as much as I wanted too.

The Eden Project. I went once when I was 10 back in 2000 and they were still building the large biodomes. I think I would appreciate it a lot more now as an adult, especilly with the zipline that they have there now as well, then I did as a child.
