My understand of the thought is that the phosphate is better suited for the staking process on the gas key for longevity and that the phosphate of the extractor makes for a more gripping surface to surface contact for increased reliability.
Is this something that will matter in the long run for your build..? Who knows. I did buy the luxedo version with the above mentioned phosphate parts to run in my 10.5 suppressed AR

Would the cover the bulk of the upgrades you'd normally want on a BCG? Any other meaningful ones to look out for? I haven't found a good guide on BCG upgrades.

It your really wanna go all out you can get a springco extractor spring kit and a bmc cam pin. But neither is really needed most of the time. To truly test your BCG you need a bunch of specific gauges, that 99% of people don’t need.

I started watching the school of the american rifle on youtube and saw some of that. I stopped after he said NiBo coatings are shit and he won't run them after I just bought one for my AR10 lol. Seems like his only gripe like 95% of the time is "efficiency" which I kind of don't really care about since I tend to use all adjustable gas blocks and buffer weights for tuning.

Yes that makes two increases in the last 12 months. I was hoping toolcraft was going to step up production and shipping to me, but I haven't seen an FDE in months, my last batch of smoke grey was only partially filled. The real driver on the non-blem price is the unusual amount of blems in this toolcraft batch. Normally I can expect about 5% blems from toolcraft. This batch is easily 50% to 60%.

u/wcarmory for your charging handle, both the normal one and the extended latch one, it says it's 6061T6 aluminum, but it also says it's mil spec, so is the main body made from 7075 aluminum? Mil-spec charging handles use 7075-T6 aluminum for the main body.
