Wasn't that just because Glock didn't have enough of the optics to fulfill government contracts they had taken? And since there's no other optics that use the footprint, it would be kinda silly to stock and sell COA-cut 'optic ready' guns.

I preordered a gen5 coa with them, and I was still waiting for months even when a lot of other retailers had them in stock. If I kept waiting/didn’t cancel my order, I don’t think I’d have gotten one before Glock stopped civilian sales

After much thinking, I am waiting on a Gen 6 COA right now. I have a Gen 6 17 and I'm just less than thrilled about another gun that requires a plate system.
TBH though, I think what CZ did with the COA knocks it out of the park, the P-10C COA shown off in Europe looks stellar. They use a screwed down "plate" to wedge the optic in place rather than the rear sight.

Gen V has Gen 5&6 parts, basically designed to use up the bundle of Gen 5 parts Glock still had after switching some production lines over to Gen 6 already. They're basically a stopgap generation and I wouldn't expect it to be long-lived.

Why would Gen V take the place of a generation that was only still being produced to comply with grandfathered pistol rosters?
California and other states going after Glock for being able to take a switch is what finally made them drop the Gen 3 despite it's grandfathered status.

Gen V was created to help protect the company from further potential lawsuits while still continuing the (modified) Gen 5 to offer customers a cheaper, non-optic-ready alternative plus continue to offer other calibers than 9mm, including the large frame models. Glock has not indicated any intent to expand the Gen 6 into .40 S&W or 10mm/.45 ACP. These calibers combine make up a very small percentage of total sales and likely aren’t worth the R&D, tooling and other manufacturing costs to bring them into Gen 6 so Glock will continue to offer them in Gen V for the relatively few that want them.

I could see myself buying it merely for the mechanism that secures the optic to the slide, as it's a one of a kind for now. But either thing on its own (Acro or G43X) don't really entice me much.
But I think we're going to see this idea get adopted to other brands assuming there isn't some patent on it. Sig Sauer for sure could make a P365 variant that mates to one of their optics in a similar manner.

Assuming you haven't watched any of the shotshow or post shotshow coverage.
The COA cut is now authorized for and will be used on a significant number of other manufacturers. I forget which ones, but it's a bunch. The downside is that brands like Smith and Wesson has stated all initial production is reserved exclusively for law enforcement. Not sure they're the only ones doing that either.
So there will be a lot more brands releasing guns with these...eventually.
