Words cannot describe how much I despise NOAA. If the North Atlantic Right Whale goes extinct, I am genuinely giving up on life.

This isn’t NOAA. It’s the pedophile dementia patient in the White House. Murdering Mother Nature is the MAGA way

God you're an asshole. I always knew working at NOAA would be thanksless, but between state senators emailing me to ask if we are controlling the weather and you, I just want to write off trying.  Also the people you should be pissed at are DOGE. We had right whale conservation experts onboarded last year to start up a new long term program; but thats woke now so they fired the whole team. But hey, I know that won't get you to delete a post slandering us so what the fuck is the point in trying
View on Reddit #80186506

Gramposity@reddit

Careful. A vast majority of the folks that work at NOAA don't want this either. This is coming from the (much) higher ups (Department of Commerce level).

The current administrator was found in violation of NOAA's scientific code of ethics in 2020 and most offices lost 30-40% of their staff last year... This administration will have impacts on the quality and availability of science for years to come.

point taken. it’s just hard not to feel such an intense rage upon seeing these headlines. these whales mean everything to me, man.

Did you devote a career to these issues? Because that’s what the scientists at NOAA did. And at much lower a salary than they could have made in the private sector. Those are the people you’re directing your anger at. What a year to inciting anger at Federal employees.

Might I also add what we (recovery biologists) are looking for: Ideally we want any information/data (sources) that we didn’t include or give enough weight to in the biological opinion produced to support the action. Each letter submitted is documented and addressed, however those general form letters that so many wildlife organizations beg/rely on you to sign/submit? Those are addressed once and are weighed much less. If you go this route at least take the time to mix it up, add to it, etc.

There will likely be a lawsuit if this goes through. These whales are still protected by law. From the sounds of it, what they are proposing is ungrounded.

Why are you blaming NOAA? Every government agency right now is gutted to the point of non existence at best and hijacked by evil lunatics who know jack shit about the agency they are leading and are tasked with destroying it from the inside out. I know many scientists there, their existence is devoted to preventing just this type of thing from happening. Nobody feels worse than these people do at this moment. Don’t blame the victims.
View on Reddit #79904860

Accurate-Gur-7842@reddit (OP)

they’ve been cutting restrictions well before trump. i have a hard time believing they’re completely powerless in all this. also, the victims are the whales. the ones that are going extinct
View on Reddit #79905191

Warm-Championship-98@reddit

Oh dear god - you think it’s NOAA itself cutting its own budget? Do you understand how funding by federal agencies works? They are funded by congressional appropriations, which for almost a decade now have been at the mercy of spineless representatives beholden to either toxic ideology or dirty money - or often, both. Republicans have been the drivers, but Corporate Dems have stood aside fecklessly and let it happen too. No kidding wildlife are the primary victims here - but you can NOT blame the very scientists who took massive pay cuts to be public servants at NOAA in order to uphold and prove the need for those exact regulations that protect our oceans and the ecosystems within them.
View on Reddit #79905803

Accurate-Gur-7842@reddit (OP)

i feel like you think i’m disagreeing with you more than i actually am. the only thing i don’t agree with you on is the sentiment of them being completely powerless in this
View on Reddit #79905875

snug97@reddit

To give you an actual answer, NOAA is run by a political appointee, as is every federal agency at the very top. So yes it is "NOAA" but only in the sense that it is their political appointee taking orders from other political appointees which goes up to Trump. Unfortunately federal agencies are made up of the best scientists being directed by random political appointees who are just carrying out administration priorities.
View on Reddit #79941977

Warm-Championship-98@reddit

No no - you said your rage/disgust is at NOAA even in your post title. So you clearly don’t understand how this twisted federal system, built less on law and reason and more on shadows of “precedent” and “ethics,” works. How little real power any agency has, especially when helmed by hand-picked, unqualified goons who were chosen solely to bring each agency down. Just look at the DHHS or DOE, led by an anti vax supplements grifter and a friggin side character in a wrestling storyline saga respectively. If you want this to change, you need to place your rage and disgust in the right direction. .

im sorry everyone. this species means so much to me on a personal level as something to aspire to protect and look forward to. i am well aware a majority of these issues stem from our government and not NOAA themselves. thank you all for refreshening my mind on that. I saw the headline, read the article and freaked out. this coupled with the mindset ive been in as of late lead to this intense reaction.

EasyonthePepsiFuller@reddit

I get it. We're all pissed, but, we have to direct our anger where it's deserved so that we don't mislead others into blindly raging at the wrong entity. If you sow seeds of mistrust about good organizations and services; they will lose important donations/support and become helpless and defunct. You should rework this and repost. We don't want a world without NOAA.
