When was the last time you made a friend?

Nice! I am of similar age (37) and now it’s just many acquaintances and not many friends. Mostly though meeting people due to circumstances rather than actively seeking friends seems to be my norm. I left my home town at 22 and basically cut all connections with old school friends, no bitterness or anything, I just moved on. Since the have made a few friends along the way, I still speak with one friend who I met randomly in a pub in 2011, no reason for us to be friends at all, but we stay in touch now and meet up from time to time, often reminiscing on drunken nights we shared over the years. Another is a former colleague from 2019, we see each other usually once a week. We started meeting met up frequently for Coffee during the whole Covid era while we were both WFH. The coffees still happen, despite us both doing different jobs, we make the time for each other. Other than those 2, it’s really just; colleagues, neighbours, parents of children in my kids classes, parents at clubs that our children attend. Honestly, I really don’t mind it. I am happier to have people I only say hi to every weekday than have people constantly offloading, I don’t mind a few but sometimes I feel that when it comes down to it, friends are overrated.
