2 weeks ago cops hit up my neighbor's house (irony being they moved away 3 weeks prior and basically raided a completely innocent family that had barely moved in).
I came outside to see what the fuss was about. Spoke to some young thundercat DT in a vest asking what was going on. Convo quickly shifted when I asked him about his sidearm- he said Glock 21.
I said "holy shit, seriously?" - yep, the entire force carries glock. "No, buddy, I get it that you guys are glock, but you carry 45?"
He chuckled.
"Jesus christ, Apopka police are trying to put people found for real for real". He let out a belly laugh and told me that the department pre-ordered - and I'm not making a typo here - "the new glock M-O-A"
..buddy, you mean the COA? "Oh, haha, yeah, the one with the scope on top".

I thought the natural progression was .38 spl for PDs then the fbi got into 10mm due to the Miami shoot out then .40sw due to lighter recoil and then now 9mm. Whereas I was not familiar with the adoption of 45acp unless it was during when 1911s and revolvers were popular among PDS.

a LOOT of PD's never switched away from .45. Indiana State police has used it for 45 years almost and just moved away from it at the end of 2024... lots of others also. it and .40 were the common ones for YEARS before the surge back to 9mm

IIRC quite a few State level and more rural PD's stuck to the higher energy .357 and 45's for a long time, and some probably still do. I remember getting pulled over by Michigan Stateys in the mid 00's still carrying S&W model 19's.
Get out into the sticks far enough and you'll find local PDs that are literally impervious to change, mostly due to internal politics.
