Islam in Balkans

I wouldn't say that any of the countries with Muslim majorities are particularly Muslim. All of them are secular countries and most of them are to some extent mixed populations. Bosnia is like 50% Muslim? Albania, Kosovo and the Sanjak region of Serbia also have major Muslim populations. All of those countries were Communist for half a century, so a lot of people learned to tone down the Muslim stuff in public. In turn, a lot of Muslims also have become more secularised. You will find villages and even small towns where people tend to be very practicing. Like, in East Bosnia you'll have small towns where you can't find pork salami in a supermarket or where women won't go to a beach if it's Ramadan. There are even a few villages with very strict Wahabi communities. And even in bigger cities you won't have problems finding people who live halal or pray regularly. In Bosnia, there are madrasa-style schools and universities as well. But all in all, I wouldn't say that Islam takes the same role in public as it does in let's say certain Arab countries.
