Really? People here talk a lot about Serbia. I thought it's also the other way around

Serbs I've met think Romania is Catholic, so it checks out.

They are certainly not the least known countries, but in terms of daily politics I feel like Greece and North Macedonia are least talked about.

Montenegro. I met people who thought Montenegro was a region, not a country. The country's name is Karadağ in Turkish, (Kara=black, dağ=mountain) a literal translation. I wouldnt be surprised if people even confuse it with Karabağ(Karabakh) of Azerbaijan.

The most discussed are Romania, Greece and Turkey as Romania is everything we could be but corruption and Greece and Turkey as tourism and things like that.

Bulgaria - they're kinda irrelevant despite being in the EU an Schengen area. I'm from southeast Serbian with some distant bulgarian ancestry, but I'm living in central Serbia and nobody talks or cares about you guys, which might be a positive since Balkan nationalanists are obsessed with revisionism and reclaiming their "ancient lands".

croatia never gets mentioned unless there is a futbol game people probably know it exists but its definetly a place we dont talk about at all
View on Reddit #79905729

Gazdanadam@reddit

Macedonia and Albania are very well known since we have many people (both ethnic Turks and Albanians) descending from there. Kosovo is known for those reasons as well as the war. Montenegro is close, but people occasionally joke about it being a casino

I mean the OP didn’t really specify. Albania, isn’t really talked about. Kosovo is talked about. Also the other OP’s question, least known country is definitely Albania. We know close to nothing about Albania. We also have the least similarities. You guys aren’t Slavs, religiously are majorly Muslims, aren’t our traditional allies, aren’t a go to tourist destination. We really know nothing about Albania. Plus keep in mind we were in an actual same country with like half of our neighbours. Plus for example Hungary and Romania, they are not Slavs, but I’ve personally been there multiple times, I’m more knowledgeable about those countries, and definitely more familiar.

Holiday_Pumpkin1279@reddit

How about visiting Albania? At least it will change your prejudice about this country.
View on Reddit #79886734

Ok_Recording_8059@reddit

Yes, there is prejudice (or at least was at some point before), but i know more and more people who went to Albania as turists, and they had only good words to describe it. Then again, it would be a paradox if the number of said people decreased, wouldnt it xD

To be honest, besides Bulgaria and Greece (90% tourism stuff), Balkan countries are a very rare topic of discussion. For the average Romanian, Bosnia Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Slovenia and Albania would be the least known.
