He is a known rapist. You think he gives a fuck about consent? He has been a giant piece of shit shit at least 1980s. I grew up seeing him in the news and him just being despicable. The 70% of Americans that are Christian could have kept him out of office if was in violation of their moral code. Just saying. They can elect or oust anyone they want, if they acted like a group with morals.

View on Reddit #79849017

EZES21@reddit

The difference is also that Obama didn't act like a retard and had a decency and dignity about him especially when sending messages in a diplomatic way. Like most politicians he was using a certain language which politicians and diplomats usually respect even if they don't agree with the message itself. There is little to nothing to respect about Trump and how he does things. He's a low IQ octogenarian who is probably riddled with mental health issues. The way he does things and the way he relates to others especially allies makes the same allies dislike him even if they may agree with the message. The issue with Trump is that the way he's been acting about Europe makes European politicians nervous because the erratic way Trump is acting you feel like you could be next since Trump does not know or care about anything or anyone other than himself.

Trump kinda opened my eyes and got me to look back at US history of meddling in other countries affairs and this is 100% true. If they think they can get a profit or further their interests they'll do whatever they want be it to allies or enemies, they're really no better than other regimes except they play the part of a democratic nation. They always had an isolationist undercurrent, I wish they'd just stick to it for once and leave everyone else the fuck alone.

Selling land to Israelis that want to escape war is evil? The EU is a giant organization with many moving parts. Is it perfectly moral? No, and we should work to make it better. Is it weak? Also no. Compared to other Global powers of the past and the present, I think we are doing quite good. A resigned "we suck" attitude destroys any hope we have to be better, and we have frameworks for change.

What he's saying is that all of them are connected, and none of them have real power - it's the Star of David state that has it, through their intel on all politicians and bureaucrats worthy of that are of some value for them. I don't get it how you people cannot connect the dots? This is all bread and circuses.
View on Reddit #79799146

Kobajadojaja@reddit

And I dont get why you cannot view people, states, institutions as connected yet seperate entities. Why you need to view everything in poles and as gestalt concienceness. Pedro Sanchez who is the only guy who threw out american military when this shit started is not the same as Orban who roots for Palestinian genocide, yet both of them are EU leaders and in NATO.

Because we view an organization based on the majority stance/opinion as those are what drives action which is what always matters the most. When something this big is discussed, getting into the "they're not all bad" minutiae is completely pointless and adds nothing to the subject other than some nice emotions knowing not everyone is "bad".

Because politicians are in power, and power corrupts. I cannot hold up the ''there's always gonna be bad apples in the basket in everything'' moral judgement for this topic because there should be no space for those kinds of bad apples FROM THE START. If it's 80% bad, and only 20% good in this topic that dictates the life and death of all people on this world? I'm rounding it up to 100% bad.

Honestly , he is giving EU bureaucrats too much credit . Most of them were in support of it hahaha , because they are scared shitless if their actions would lead to a loss of US support on issues important to them. They are also hypocritical . When it comes to Spain "Tried to stop" is going too far. Spain does not have the ability to stop the war in the ME or stop US . The only difference between them and other states that have condemned the attack is that they are part of NATO and EU which complicates things for them. Especially the NATO part . But plenty of countries outside of EU/NATO condemned the attack. They are not using India's airspace for flyovers so India doesnt have the need to go out and say "you cant use our bases for this attack" or "your cant use our airspace" they can just condemn it on the basis of international law. They are not going to go to war against US over Iran and neither would Spain. If you look at Balkan US jet flyovers you can clearly see which countries US jets are avoiding . And for example if Bulgaria and Greece denied flyovers as well it would complicate things for US Airforce , especially Turkey . Same thing for various ME countries. Other EU puppets did stand by for the most part . Denmark enthusiastically supported it . A fact I find beyond hilarious and it might come back to bite them in the ass once more. I feel like I am going to have some fun quoting Dannish officials and swaping 2 words from their statements.

Spanish guy here. As far as i'm aware.... something similar happened like 40 years ago. Reagan wanted to bomb Libya because of some terrorist attack at a disco in Berlin (with plenty of us officers). Nobody supported it, and basically the majority of the european countries denied their support. Spain denied the use of the military bases that nato can use The fun bit. There is an agreement (or a treaty. dont remember) signed like 2 years after that. Recognising that the bases are sovereign spanish territory. And that neither those bases nor our air space may be used without the spanish government's consent. Of course. Its just paper... dont think he cares much about it in the end. But they have been demonstrating for months that they have ceased to be a reliable anything (i refuse to use the word ally)

He is still salty because our pm "doesnt want" to increase the defense budget up to a 5% of gdp. But...what he doesnt understand. That kind of thing can only be decided here with a parlamentarian majority. And spanish politics are a mess right now. The country has been reusing the same budget since 2023 (with some adjustments, of course) because there is not enough majority to get some new ones approved.
View on Reddit #79801568

Whole_Obligation_776@reddit

Well we have no such issues because we have franco at home. But, putting aside our low effort jokes, in Turkey it was common practice for a government to fall if they couldnt pass the budget. Pretty much on the same day, it wasnt a law or anything but it was a practice during our coalitions period. Since it would reveal their minority in the parliament and any subsequent vote of confidence would ensure their fall (This happened in 1971 and 1973 if I recall, both governments were army backed technocrat governments that had no base in the parliament, military had pushed the parties to back up and support these 'experts' between 1971 to 1974. Wouldnt it make sense for the Spanish government to fall if they cant pass a budget, or do they need a super-majority to pass them and they only have basic majority?
View on Reddit #79802014

View on Reddit #79929737

Whole_Obligation_776@reddit

He held a parliament majority and full loyalty of his party since basically 2007. Before that there were other voices in the party but they got basically erased by not showing them as candidates in that year's election. Tbh it is a feature of Turkey's political party system, all parties are basically one man parties with few exceptions. They even usually become history when that party leader dies or abandons politics. Basically the only party where an internal opposition managing to replace party leader is CHP, main opposition party. İyi Party also recently changed its party leader, if the party leader were to go to the next internal leader election, she would lose it so she just didnt run for it. So not exactly the same. CHP had internal democratic mechanisms enough to change its party leader in 1973, one another time in 1990s, and most recently 2 years ago after its party leader lost in the presidential election. Multiple sides of the party wanted him to show the istanbul or Ankara mayors as the presidential candidate instead of himself, both were way more popular than him, alas he used his control on the upper echelons of the party to make himself the candidate and we lost the election. Now erdogan is actually trying to use the court system this old party leader to the head of the opposition party. It will most likely happen in this year, it will probably cause a party split with intenal opposition abandoning the party. I doubt the party will get 1% of the votes if this happen and most voters will switch to the new party. PS: I explained all above to fully explain the party leaders and politics in Turkey but the most correct answer is, erdogan also fully destroyed this internal check on the governments. With 2017's constitution amendments where he destroyed almost all checks and balances on the governments, an amendment on the state budgets made sure that if the parliament does not approve the government's budget, prior year's budget simply passes with 0 votes. Because you see, seperation of powers is a zionist ploy or something.

Istanbul Mayor is the one that got arrested. Though they already tried once to accuse Ankara Mayor with arrestable offences too. They used a businessman who claimed that he bribed Ankara Mayor by handing him a bunch of Money. They immediately leaked this accusation to the press and start banging the war drums. Turned out Ankara Mayor was abroad for an official visit when the businessman said they met together in the city, so it all became their own debacle. Businesman also turned out to be past convict for raping a minor (Cheerful bunch erdogan likes to work with) Anyway they are now trying to come up with something else so they can accuse him for working for Trotsky as a 5th column or something. This is the life we are dealt with. We might not have a good deck but are going to [play it ](https://youtu.be/X--PXyB1Zw0?t=24)to the end. No regime survives eternally. History continues with its ups and downs. They will also go down one day. We will just make sure something better rises up. I live in Turkey, while I have other options, I will keep doing so. It is ok, it is a pendulum, you know, every action has its own counter-reaction. World is going through phases every couple decades since the French revolution. Democratization-Anti-Democratization, etc. You can check out Samuel P Huntington's *The Third Wave: Democratization in the Late Twentieth Century.* It is an absolutely stupid book but in general it touches this pendulum theory. 1910s seeing democratization, rise of nation states and fall of empires, 1930s saw the rise of reactionary fascism, 1950s saw the rise of democracies, 70s military dictatorships, 1990s new democracies. And now we have to watch our own wave. You are absolutely right about tech-oligarchies, they are directly related with the phase we are in. They are doing their best to consolidate power and harm societies with that power. A reaction to that will rise surely. We havent reached the end of history.

In Turkey we have seperate dangers, and hopefully our last bits of democracy will survive the Erdogan period. But this war will only strengten his hand in domestic politics. Problem is you don't need soft power when you've got plenty of hard power. We can whine about Trump all we like (for the record, I don't think it's unjustified) - but America is still the world's #1 superpower and the rest of us peasants (especially in Europe) are probably going to have to adapt, seeing as everyone is doing pretty much fuck all to counter America's abuse of power and influence.

Dollar is dollar because of america's soft power as much as its aircraft carriers. I don't mean soft powrr in cultural, hollywood sense, but the perception that -ultimately- usa's perception as an ally and a friendly nation. It is next to impossible to maintain dollars reserve status without both. The days where usa was the dominant market and industrial juggernaught are long gone, like 40 years ago. What maintained its hegemony was that there was a fiction of international order and usa was perceived to be natural, deserving leader of that order. Trump is not only not interested in maintaining the fiction, but actively making it impossible to believe in it. Which is fine if their hard power was sufficient to bomb, invade and force every country to obey them, but for all their unmatched military might, they are not remotely powerful enough to do that.

Well, I don't want to sound offensive but I can't help it: that USA was not an ally of, nor friendly with Serbs during Yugoslavia's breakup, that it was willing to send its own sons to protect people that were murdered en masse an ocean away, while Europe was just talking, WAS precisely that we thought USA was a deserving hegemon, an ally and a friendly nation.
View on Reddit #79828842

Yeah, let's ask Laos, the most bombed country in the world, how friendly the US is. Or Iraq. Or any of the other countries the US has bombed. Or the Latin American leaders the US couped. The US is not considered a friendly nation to anyone outside the US dicksucking circle. If anything i love that the very countries that helped the US terrorize the world are freaking out that they're getting 5% of their own medicine, i really hope it continues!
View on Reddit #79864052

Iterative_Ackermann@reddit

You are not wrong about Laos. We used to think USA of a friendly ally, because USA was an ally of us. Laos must think otherwise, because, well, it was otherwise. Iraq is a different beast. You would find Iraqis thankful for US in the north and hating the US in the south, it is not black and white as you make it to be. I am from Turkey and I can write down a list of USAs sins in this country for hours without taking a break. However our case is too not black and white. USSR was officially, and explicitly asking for control of bosphorus and our north-eastern lands during Stalin era. They switched to arming and sponsoring far left terrorism in the country in the 60ties, increasing street violance well into 1980. So Turkey was for all intents a cold war battleground, which neither side fought clean.

I need to add to this rather obvious fact: we still have our northeast, and control of bosphorus and dardanelles thanks to us being a NATO member. If that is dicksucking for you, I can't imagine what you expect from allies.

Their power is not sufficient to win against Iran at this point, the USA has never gone to war with such a big power, wars are won with boots on the ground and not with bombs, USA is overestimating their capabilities, which also rest upon the NATO network, without NATO bases USA becomes way less powerful. The only reason people perceive USA as a humongous military power is to save themselves from the bombs. USA cannot possibly invoke 500k troops and commit them somewhere far away from home without a proper network to support them (NATO bases that is).

Only part I disagree with is that the Iranian people support the current regime. It’s estimated at 10-20%
View on Reddit #79860560

Silly_Mustache@reddit

Most people support the regime, an overwhelming majority actually, it's the way that they support it that changes. Some ask for reform and for more political control to exist in their parliament, others want full-blown democracy but still want the IRGC to play a role in their politics (advisory etc), but suggesting 70% of the population is AGAINST the regime and they have not thrown a revolution is just...well, not how things work. The adage of "it's a dictatorship that's why" doesn't ring true, that's not how it ever worked, that's the very classic narrative regarding anything that isn't a western liberal democracy. USSR/vietnam/Cuba all those places are "dictatorships" and everyone is "severely oppressed" but they aren't throwing a revolution cause...idk. Meanwhile those same places DID throw a revolution against actual oppression (czar, the french, the americans), so suggesting that those people would not throw a revolution against oppression is just a fascinating mental jump. Those places definitely had and have a lot of restrictions in personal freedoms, but they give something to the people that previously did not exist, mainly stability or at least national agency, things that previously did not exist at any level. No country survives by being a brutal dictatorship, most of the times they have a very big part of the population supporting them, a minority opposing them, and most people passively supporting the status quo and wanting change but without blood being spilled.

There are multiple methods of resistance, including withholding taxes, withholding labor etc. If a society is not functioning, people wouldn't be doing those functions in the first place. A functioning state requires the consent of the people, otherwise it is never stable. The thing is what the "alternative" is to the current iranian regime, people fear if their leaders get deposed they will be situated with another Shah. If you had to choose between a horrible government vs being a colonial state, what would you choose?

The issue for that strategy is that China isn’t actually going to defend you if Washington decides you aren’t tolerable anymore, and the world is becoming more than cognizant of that right now. China told Venezuela and Iran they were close allies, shared intelligence with them, sold military equipment with them, made economic deals, etc…and then did absolutely nothing when Trump decided to overturn their regimes. So sure, a country can “ally” with China, but China is not going to help it deter the US from attacks.

\> The thing is, you don't need soft power when you've got plenty of hard power. Oh, you do. As anything anyone did in the spirit of good will before, needs now to be enforced. It is also antagonizing those who had been willing to cooperate with them before. Leading them to look elsewhere for support. Forcing the previously stronger part of the relationship to spend more money, effort and, in effect, troops to get that they want. Even the US only has so many Strike Groups. With China on the horizon, the US very much needs those Strike Groups elsewhere, not forcing countries that had been friends for centuries into submission. The US is shooting herself in both feet at the same time, but it can still hobble because of crutches that took more than half a century to build up. The question is, will the feet heal in time or do the crutches break first.

They want a base in certain place? They will make it. If the country doesnt allow it, they will break all international laws and even make a new terrorist state just to have their base, AKA Kosovo. Its just that now its all in the open finally. But yea, NATO countries enjoyed and played silent when other countries got bombed, obliterated and politically destroyed. But now when they receive similar treatment, now it is suddenly pikachu surprised face. If you ignore bullies when they visit and bully your neighbors, sooner or later those same bullies will come knocking on your door and then there would be no neighbors left to help you.

Hes just saying out loud what the US has always done quietly. The difference is usually you pretend to care about sovereignty and treaties so countries keep cooperating with you. Saying you dont need permission is how you end up with no allies willing to help when you actually need something.

Any comments from the german chancellor about that (If he said that in that talk)? I bet he thinks he’ll get a piece of the cake lol
View on Reddit #79798876

Haunting-Detail2025@reddit

Why would he comment? Spain isn’t gonna retaliate against Germany for being silent, whereas Trump absolutely will if Germany says something back. Additionally…Germany, or at least Merz, is kind of in agreeance with trump over Iran right now, he’s made that very clear. I don’t think Merz is particularly sympathetic towards the Spaniards right now
View on Reddit #79814248

Sandzakguy@reddit

Why would he comment? Maybe to at least try to deescalate the situation? Staying silent means fully agreeing to anything said. A performative "I'm sure we will figure it out with Spain in a diplomatic way" would atleast signal that he doesn’t want a EU member abused for it’s territory. He could at least act like he cared. What does the U in EU stand for again?

Woah, Trump has been shit talking us Brits because we aren't kissing their arse all day so that's wrong! Fuck trump the fat pedo rat is a feeling very mutual in the UK and Starmer would lose a lot of support should be side with him in this illegal war. We have joined in a defensive manner to protect our overseas interests, downing drones going for our bases/allied, not bombing Iran.
View on Reddit #79813127

FootballUpset2529@reddit

Why disappointed with the UK? Trump has been shit talking the UK Prime Minister all day because he refused to join in with the war and wouldn't let Trump use UK bases for the attacks. It's one of the rare moments I've actually been proud of our government. I think you should check the news a bit more, the UK and US have always been best friends...but we're not anymore and Trump found that out this week.
View on Reddit #79812554

We've (the UK) refused them use of their bases for attacking Iran too.. in fact we did it before Spain did. So maybe you should pay attention.

View on Reddit #79809118

Challenging happens behind closed doors when they huddle to have private conversations. Not on the press conference. Especially not with Trump who is known to talk for the sake of it.

This all keeps adding to the long game. Every single of these little things Trump has been doing, from Greenland to dissing everyone from Europe to Japan, Korea, Canada, and on and on, the ever changing tariffs against everyone, the removing of foreign heads of state, knocking airplanes in int airspace, and on and on....It may seem he is getting away with it, but quietly in the background the US dollar has gone from 60% of reserves dominance to 46% by last month. He may be out of office when this happens, but soon enough the US will find out it's not so easy to maintain a huge military with a worthless currency.
