I only did it once on my way home from a karate tournament with a broken foot. I was in a lot of pain and could barely stand up. I needed painkillers.

Only time I’ve been in car with someone who used a disabled space was at 3am at Tesco on a post-work snack trip because it was 3am and there was one other car in the entire car park. Why do you think this is so common? Are you judging people’s disability as they exit the car?

It's not. If I'm leaving the car, I won't park in a disabled or parents' space, but if I'm just pulling up so my wife can run in the shop for 30 seconds I might pull into one as long as there's another available and it's not too busy.

In general I try not to make it my business to pry into what others do and make assumptions about their health or character based only on a single indirect interaction and I think the world would be a much better place if nosy parkers stayed in their lane rather than being nasty little sneaks.

Personally no, but i’m disabled so i don’t know if i count as biased or not. Disabled spaces are necessary for disabled people. If there’s none available it’s not a case of just picking a regular space (most of the time), we either have to go home and come back later or drive to the next store. Same with p&c spaces i imagine, but it would depend on why the driver of the car is choosing that space in particular (are they heavily pregnant and unable to walk far or is it that they just need more space to get a small child out of a car seat and into a pram?).

Totally agree. People who don't need a disabled space and use it for laziness do not realise the impact on somebody who truly needs that space. Nobody would begrudge somebody use a that space if they have temporary need. Maybe on crutches or, as you say, pregnant.

I've never parked in a disabled parking space, but I have used a family space while my child wasn't with me. No meaningful excuse other than laziness and being in a rush.

Disabled bays may be covered by legislation but they are also the right thing to provide. Both have a very specific purpose. The individuals who use them both have very specific needs. Those needs may not be the same, but they are needs.

I think if I had mobility issues but couldn't get a blue badge I would use the parent and child spaces to ensure I could get some accommodation for my disability.

I think a lot of times when people claim people aren't "eligible" for parking in disabled spaces what they mean is "I don't think invisible disabilities exist"
