Should i get and wait 9950X3D2 or just get 9950X3D?

So I was thinking, to do upgrade (yes it's horrible decision since the ram price went so high up). I just sold my older rig the other day and wanted to buy 9950X3D for my workstation when I heard about 9950X3D2. Now the question is, should I just wait for this rumoured CPU or just buy the current available now? Will it have huge performance difference? Will it work with the same motherboard?

9950X3D2 may never happen for all we know. Why wait for a chip that is likely not going to provide much benefit and when we're in a time of a parts shortage? For all we know, AI is probably may directly or indirectly cause a CPU shortage down the road.

Its coming out on 22th mate

Yes, that is "the" question!

Not sure about the performance, but yes, it'll work with the same motherboard.
Worse case ontario you could sell your 9950x3d and buy the 9950x3d2 if it's that much better. The CPU will hold it's value well in the used market, being new. You'll take a small loss, but nothing major. And you'll have a PC from now until then.

I bought a 9950x3d and literally a few days later the asrock leak announcement happened so similar situation lol

Thank you!

Don't let FOMO get to you or you'll be upgrading again when next gen comes out.

My bad, I always do this. You are right man!

9950X3D2 is just a rumor and a pretty specious one at that. You could be waiting forever, because it's not confirmed that it even exists or will ever exist.
That said, even if it does eventually come out, it's not going to be what people are assuming. It's still two CCDs. They would just both have extra L3 cache in the form of 3D vcache instead of just one. However, you still need to confine processes to one CCD or you lose the benefit of the cache. So, maybe you could run two games at once without compromising performance, because that's something everyone does all the time. There may be some specific productivity workloads that could benefit, maybe, but as far as just normal gaming goes, it won't be any better than a 9950X3D. You're not going to get like 16 cores for your game instead of 8, for example, because all the same reasons the second CCD is parked for the game still exist.

Unless it has more cores, no it won’t be any major difference
We already saw this with a 9850x3d and 9800x3d.
nru3@reddit
From my understanding the 9950x3d2 is bot the same update as the 9850x3d update.
The '2' at the end is meant to indicate that the 3d vcache will be on both ccd's instead of just the one like the current 9950.
Unless this has changed?
VersaceUpholstery@reddit
If that means double the amount of cache, then maybe it can make a noticeable difference in gaming performance.
I’d probably still wait for reviews/benchmarks though. I would think there’s a diminishing point of return with gaming performance gains from all the added extra cache
Sakuroshin@reddit
I would imagine unless you find a game that can use more than 16 cores you won't see much difference. Also keep in mind that there probably will be a decent increase in price compared to the 9950x3d. On top of all that we don't even have official confirmation of the 9950x3d2 let alone a confirmed release date, so you could end up waiting 6 months or possible a year+.
