Have two of these and immediately changed out triggers and recoil spring to make it better. Max does have a slightly thicker grip and seems to shoot a little low . But bodyguard is now on top. Bodyguard comp version is the way to go also.
Impressive_Meet_1168@reddit
What does a comp really do for .380? Scientifically it has greatest benefit for high pressure cartridges. They’re not even that great for cheap 115 grain 9mm.
Pairaboxical@reddit
I'm curious about this also. In a fixed barrel .380 it would probably be worth it. But the BG 2.0 is relatively soft shooting to begin with. Would the comp be worth be extra length? Guess I'll need to shoot them side by side to know.
hellzraven7@reddit
Did a side by side today with my friend regular and my comp. Slight difference. Seems a little easier using one hand with comp while shooting after draw. Longer barrel helped with 20 yrd out over regular. Used hornady black, remington hollow point and fiochi black mamba. The black mamba wouldn't feed properly until fifty rounds of breaking it it with normal ammunition. Ran a total of 50rds each. I think the extra length made the real difference but was still able to maintain on target a little easier.
Pairaboxical@reddit
Interesting, thanks for checking it out and letting me know!

Wyno222@reddit
It was nice before the BG 2.9 released. My LCP II and LCP Max haven’t been carried or shot since purchasing the BG 2.0. The BG 2.0 is just that much better and is pleasurable to shoot.
Admirable_Suit_2065@reddit
Yeah I like my LCP Max but if I had a do-over I’d get the BG 2.0
lancerevo98@reddit
I fucking hate my LCP max but can’t bring myself to sell a gun lol
silentsnipe21@reddit
I’ve sold very few guns. I sold my lcp max. I loathed the trigger. Mine would engage the trigger safety unless it was a completely perfect pull. I didn’t trust it as a pocket gun. Sold it for $125 and put it towards a used bodyguard 2.0
AudienceSimilar@reddit
Well you wouldn’t get much if you sold it anyways
Peabody_Tiddlecut@reddit
Yeah I just sold my LCP Max for literally $100, lol. And even then the guy was acting like he was doing me a favor.
murmanator@reddit
Damn! Guns.com bought mine for $205 a couple months ago. It had 3 12rd mags and a holster with it though.
SilentR99@reddit
I carried an LCP II 380 for like 8 years, Great tiny concealable gun but man did I Fing hate shooting it. For this reason I had less then 200 rounds shot total on it in that period. When I finally upgraded to a p365 xmacro - I put 500 rounds through it the first range trip.
lancerevo98@reddit
Yeah that’s kinda my issue. Any carry gun I buy, I will not carry until I’ve put at least 500 rds through it to know I can use it safely and reliably and I’m struggling to even get to that round count on the max and it’s been like 2 years
Wyno222@reddit
The LCP line is just painful to shoot. I had to force myself to put just 50 rounds through either during a range trip. With the BG 2.0, I’ve put 200 rounds through it in one trip and wondered why I didn’t bring more. It’s so much more pleasant to shoot than the LCPs.
lancerevo98@reddit
Oh 1000% I got to shoot a friend’s bodyguard 2.0 comp recently and it’s not even a contest. I’d be fine putting a few hundred through it in a day but I’d need a week in a wrist brace if I shot the LCP that much
MiseryIndexer@reddit
yup
Wyno222@reddit
Well, I still have my II and Max because they’re worth so little on resale it doesn’t make sense to sell them…as it’s practically giving them away.
Popwarhomie@reddit
Glad to hear that. I was between the Max and 2.0 and ordered the 2.0 a couple days ago.
Wyno222@reddit
The BG 2.0 is one of the few guns that, live up to the hype.
Pairaboxical@reddit
Yeah the BG 2.0 is a gun that actually lives up to all the hype IMHO.
New_World_Native@reddit
I wish the BG2.0 was this price!
Specialist-Day6721@reddit
I sold my LCP II after i got my BG 2.0. it's not even close
jbach50@reddit
Nothing this size is going to be a pleasurable shooting experience. For that reason, have stuck with the OG LCP favoring concealability over all else.
drewforty@reddit
I tried to go from my original LCP pro to a 365x and never really carried it; always went for the LCP on the way out the door. For 200 bones I’ll finally give the max a try. Got the last non safety one at my local.
Tree_Weasel@reddit
Nah, holding out for the new Kel-Tec PR-3AT.
wararrow101@reddit
I actually want one of these so bad
cashnicholas@reddit
I’ve shot these before and could barely hit the target at 10 yards. I can punch holes in holes with my Glock. I’ll stick to that.
Bot86753091503@reddit
The intended purpose of the LCP max is defense situation hole punch, which is commonly known to be 3-7 yards. Expecting it to easily punch holes 10 yards away is not really its intended use, it’s not a target gun. Ever shot a snub nosed 38 revolver? I’ve seen people miss the entire silhouette from 5’ repeatedly. They call them belly guns for a reason. Certain tools have certain uses.
ChampionshipNice4111@reddit
Well maybe this class of pistol is just not ideal for many shooters due to its difficulty to shoot effectively, especially under duress….
rollindeep3@reddit
I need honest opinions. Everybody says “durrr Bodyguard 2.0 durrrr,” but that thing is huge for pocket carry (for my pockets). Pretty much the same size as a 365. Am I the crazy one?
Confident-Client-584@reddit
I own both. The BG isn't a pocket gun for me at least. Too big. On paper the dimensions between the two aren't too far off, but it makes a big difference IRL. The LCP is still the king of pocket carry and deep, easy concealment.
You don't carry an LCP because it's a great shooter. You carry one because it conceals really well in almost any situation or clothing. Hence why one will always be in my safe. Actually I need to pick up the OG version because it's even slimmer than the Max.
brawneisdead@reddit
I collect, shoot, and carry lots of pocket guns, I have almost 20. The BG2 is the best in its class. I don’t like the P365 personally, it’s very snappy and hard to hold on to. The BG2 I can shoot one-handed with ease. It has a very high grip placement and a low bore axis.
Handgun hero comparison below. The BG is smaller in every dimension and 30% less weight.
Everybody is different and I’m sure ppl will disagree with me. If you’re a “9mm is my minimum caliber” kinda person then naturally the BG2 is not for you.
https://www.handgunhero.com/compare/sig-sauer-p365-vs-smith-wesson-bodyguard-2-0
rollindeep3@reddit
I’ve spent hours on that site, back and forth. I don’t have any issues with .380, I must just wear smaller pants than most people, lol
brawneisdead@reddit
These would work for jacket pocket carry. For pants pockets, you have to go down to 32 or 25, something like the Seecamp, Keltec P32, or the out of production Beretta Model 20 or Jetfire 950. The Seecamp is my recommendation in that size. The keltec is a contender if you can learn not to short stroke the trigger
Phyraxus56@reddit
The boys at one true caliber have been convincing me to get a keltec p32 just so I can have an underwear gun
brawneisdead@reddit
I sold mine, I couldn’t get used to the trigger. However it was very reliable, tiny, lightweight, checks a lot of boxes
Express-coal@reddit
Looks at the totally concealed BG 2.0 in my right pants pocket "Sorry dude, some guy on the internet says you gotta go and I can only carry my thick as fuck bobcat."
brawneisdead@reddit
No need to be a dick, it makes you look petty AND stupid
Learn your guns, neither of those older models are a bobcat, they are much slimmer than the modern bobcats. I own two bobcat, notice I did not recommend them for pants pocket carry? But I carry my Model 20 all day in a pants pocket.
Cool, carry what you wanna carry wherever you wanna carry it. I was helping a person who explicitly said the bodyguard was too big for their pocket. I think the bodyguard is too big for my pants pocket, it doesn’t not conceal in MY pants. Bodies are different, clothes are different.
Fuckwas
Express-coal@reddit
That's a lot of words, too bad I'm not reading them.
brawneisdead@reddit
Fuckwad
Pairaboxical@reddit
It really does depend and the pants. Not just the pocket size, but the cut and fit. I'm guessing the build of the person also. It will disappear in some brands of pants but be conspicuous in others. Formal dress pants are harder to accommodate.
Pairaboxical@reddit
The Bodyguard 2.0 is a home run by S&W but no, you aren't crazy. I can see why it's too big for pocket carry for some people. The original Bodyguard was smaller but the trigger made it almost unshootable, even with practice.
brixalpha@reddit
The LCP fills a roll, if you want a nicer shooting experience get a 1911 platform. I think it's a matter of preference but for under $200 it's hard to beat for a pocket pistol. The BG offers a great experience, but I'd rather have my LCP for times I need a firearm to with a smaller footprint and spend the difference in the price on defensive ammo and training ammo.
Like I tell anyone, a firearm is a firearm, never heard anyone say "damn you shot me with a hi point, it doesn't count, you have to at least spend $300 on your gun for your shots to count"
So no your not crazy
username2571@reddit
No. I think the BG2.0 is too big for my pocket. Have an LCP Max and it’s perfect for its intended purpose. Especially with the addition of some talon grip tape and the mcarbo triggger kit.
Suspicious-Fish7281@reddit
I pocket carry a BG 2.0. Everyone is built and dresses different. I am a thin guy and tend to wear a lot of chinos and not so much jeans anymore, but I comfortably pocket carry in a holster in most of my normal slim cut pants. I don't think I could draw quickly or reliably from skinny jeans, but straight cut jeans isn't even too bad.
FasterThanYourMom@reddit
The BG2.0 is like a half inch longer, same height, and thinner than the LCP Max. I have both and WAY prefer the BG2.0.
https://www.handgunhero.com/compare/ruger-lcp-max-vs-smith-wesson-bodyguard-2-0
No_Watch4118@reddit
Also haven’t people been having feeding issues and ammo pickiness with their Bodyguards? I get it’s the newest and better option but it’s not flawless.
_amosburton@reddit
Yeah there was quite a few reports early on, not sure if anything has changed lately.
brawneisdead@reddit
I’ve never read about ammo issues. My BG2 is past 1000 rounds with no failures
FasterThanYourMom@reddit
The 365 is bigger in every dimension. Not my a ton in any one dimension, but when you multiply the differences by 3 it makes for a much bigger pistol.
https://www.handgunhero.com/compare/sig-sauer-p365-vs-smith-wesson-bodyguard-2-0
Tacomaguy24@reddit
How bad are these
notyetporsche@reddit
Get a Bodyguard 2.0 comp, which is awesome compared to this
BrambleVale3@reddit
And more than double the price.
VanDerLindeMangos@reddit
Idk why people are pumping the bodyguard so much here. I got the bodyguard 2.0 first, hated and got rid of it, the. realized its use case was to fit in my pocket and not to be a range toy. Got the lcp as a cheap substitute and frankly don’t perceive any noteworthy difference. The bodyguard was a marginally heftier at the expense of being marginally larger, which actually worked against its intended use with me - being imperceptible in my pocket, chambered in .380, and reliable as a worst case scenario tool.
OddPatient4260@reddit
I also get the impression some are pushing the BG2, which is nearly double the price a bit too hard in this thread. I have both and actually had more issues with my BG2 than the LCP Max, though the BG2 is a bit tamer to shoot, but not by much. Both smacked my trigger finger to the point that it wasn't much fun after a only a few mags in practice. In contrast, I can shoot sub to micro compact 9mm all day without discomfort if I had unlimited ammo. My BG2 also had a mag issue, shot way left out of the box and the grand canyon width rear sights were not helpful if you liked placing precise shots. In the end, I had to replace the sights to get my BG2 to shoot accurately enough for my liking, which drove up the price even more. I get it, neither are designed for long distance accuracy, but I still prefer having the ability to do so.
At under $200, the LCP Max is a good price for a very concealable and reliable 380 if you just need something. If this is going to be your first pocket 380, the BG2 is not worth the extra cost if you're at all budget conscious. Most people would be better served by using the savings for some shooting gloves and extra ammo for practice to get acclimated. You really need to shoot more than just one mag or even one box per year if you're expecting to use either of these effectively when the time comes.
killacarnitas1209@reddit
I think it makes a big difference that the LCP Max is an upgrade on a proven, time-tested design. Its essentially the same as the original LCP, apart from a slightly thicker grip. The BG2 is a brand new design.
OddPatient4260@reddit
The BG2 looks a lot like the Shield Plus, which I've had for a couple of years before jumping on the BG2. I'm not sure how similar they might be internally, but the design and reliability I had with the Shield Plus was a factor for trying the BG2. Also just remembered I needed to polish the 2 piece feed ramp to ensure smooth feeding, so it definitely didn't live up to expectations, although it does work fine now.
KaneIntent@reddit
This isn’t a common experience
brawneisdead@reddit
It’s almost as if it’s a best-seller for a reason…
BrambleVale3@reddit
I’m personally convinced that at least some of the pumping are paid bots. I remember when people were like this for Hellcats, then one day suddenly all of the fans disappeared all at once.
brawneisdead@reddit
“paid bots” why would you pay a bot?
notyetporsche@reddit
I did not get paid to recommend the BG 2.0. I have one, I paid full price for it. After several hundred rounds on it, I really like it.
brawneisdead@reddit
Same same. I sold my PoS LCP II many years ago, it was just impossible for me to hold on to. BG 2.0 fits my hand like a glove and shoots much better, it’s now my prjmary carry gun.
I was just making fun of the guy who thinks we’re “paid bots”
Sasselhoff@reddit
Having shot an LCP a buddy had, and having just bought a Bodyguard 2.0 (not the comp), I personally feel the price difference is worth every penny. I get it though...$190 is definitely preferable to $350.
ForYourFYI@reddit
The Bodyguard 2.0 is a superior shooter for $150 more than this. Howevah, for $200 flat, this is a zero regrets backup option. I find it way less crappy to shoot than the hive mind consensus. Excellent, convenient, grab and go, better than nothing, bad breath distances, cool because it’s lame, CCW in a pinch.
drebinf@reddit
I like shooting it just fine, just like I still like shooting my original LCP just fine. But I have stout hands and am not that recoil sensitive compared to most. (Getting old and no more .454 Casull for me though).
Interesting-Win6219@reddit
They aren't bad guns at all. They're just made obsolete by the bodyguard that came out. They're reliable and thats about all you can ask for with a gun that small lol. They're a bit snappy though.
KaneIntent@reddit
The Bodyguard 2.0 really had the engineering ingenuity in it’s design that Heckler and Koch used to have in the 80s
Biddlebomber@reddit
Double action only triggers are pretty trash.
Probably zero fun to shoot.
Specific use-case for a pocket pistol...acceptable maybe.
I just pushed a friend to get the Bodyguard 2.0, light years ahead of this thing. Also 400ish.
username2571@reddit
So you don’t actually have one.
mr_poppycockmcgee@reddit
So, I actually have one.
It’s technically double action but in reality it’s a precocked hammer instead if a precocked striker so it feels like a striker fire.
It is very reliable.
For half the price of a bodyguard I would get this all day long.
AlienSasquatchhunter@reddit
Same
hitemlow@reddit
If it's the same mechanism as the LCP2, it's single action. You don't have double strike capability because the trigger doesn't cock the hammer at all.
username2571@reddit
I have one and carry it daily. Put on some rubber talon grip tape and the mcarbo trigger kit. Feels good in the hand and trigger is not bad at all anymore. With the extended mag it’s easily pocketable and very shootable. It’s not fancy and the trigger doesn’t break like one of my dogs or 1911s, but is something I can carry comfortably in any situation and whatever I’m wearing. And I don’t mind shooting a couple of mags per range trip to stay proficient.
methodactyl@reddit
I love mine
DexterBotwin@reddit
Like the other guy said, they’re good at what they are. They suck to shoot, they’re hard to be accurate with at any distance past like 5-10 yards, and they kill my trigger finger.
But it’s super small, affordable, has 10+1, and is reliable. I’m confident that if I’m in close quarters, it will reliably hit what I want it to.
With that said, I wish I bought the original or LCP II, as the Max is just slightly too big for me to pocket carry. If I was in the market again, I’d probably look at something else like the BG 2 or get a true pocket gun.
Tacomaguy24@reddit
Seems like I'll hold out. I have a gx4 and that's my "small" pistol at the moment.
robinator118@reddit
My buddy’s been insisting I get one as a pocket carry. Comes with mags and a pocket holster apparently
Sasselhoff@reddit
Do yourself a favor and try out a Bodyguard 2.0.
Only had to hold one for about ten seconds to realize that if it shot anywhere near as good as it felt to hold it was my new pocket carry. Literally picked it up from the gun store last week, and can confirm it shoots as good as it holds.
My buddy had one of these LCPs and I absolutely detested that thing. I'm a Domesticated Bigfoot with pretty big hands, and it was just not pleasant to shoot...not only that, the trigger pull was just atrocious. That said, it's also half the price of the Bodyguard...so there is that.
robinator118@reddit
I’ll take a look thank you
fullautohotdog@reddit
Feels like a staple gun, but it’ll pack light and put dicks in the dirt.
In short: It’s a “get the fuck off me” gun, not a “fondle in the gun safe” gun.
michael_man777@reddit
Not bad at all. Actually pretty shootable and super tiny. I like mine a lot.
AnyProcess4064@reddit
In my experience they are reliable and accurate, having real sights. Far better than the LCP 1 or 2. If I had one criticism of the one I shot, it had very loose slide/frame fit. Almost concerningly so, but didn't affect function in a noticeable way.
Wunktacular@reddit
For $200 you can do much worse. It's a tiny carry pistol, none of them are particularly fun or pleasant to shoot. But in a pinch, it'll punch a few .36 caliber holes in a two-legged pest.
lxa1947@reddit
It’s very snappy. I sold mine for a bodyguard 2.0.
BrambleVale3@reddit
There’re good for what they are.

No FFL fee is nice at academy.
These have 3 purposes. A truck gun for keeping in your pocket at gas stations, a gym shorts gun & a purse gun for your fanny pack at the park.

Dude I just got one for 230$ from sportsman’s it still hasn’t shipped yet what do I do?

My dad has one. Took it out to the range and I swear it shoots worse than my S&W Bodyguard 380, the 1.0 version that's DAO.

redthirst@reddit
Great size for pocket carry or painless aiwb and I find it rather pleasant to shoot with a Hogue Handall grip and Hyve +1 extension - neither of which detract significantly from its ability to conceal in my experience. It’s my “I can’t carry any other gun right now gun”.
I’ve not handled a BG2.0, though, so it may be superior in every way.
91xela@reddit
My wife has the none Max. I hate it, she hates it but it’s small and easy for her to carry
