These two are reminders that there is good in this shithole of a world we live in. I wish LeVar a long and happy life. He needs to break the hundred year mark. We still need him. 😭❤️🫂
Just because you dont have the same exposure as these 2 doesnt make you less good. Just be a good neighbor and lead with kindness and understanding in all situations. I think thats enough to put you on par. We cannot expect to have equal opportunities to influence as many people as celebrities.
Yep. Go across the bridge or the tracks and *talk* to your neighbor. I do LasagnaLove . org and it's had me meet people very close by in need: the travesty that there are hungry families right near me. Whatever your passion is, volunteer. And it's FUN.
I just feel so grateful for their presence in my childhood. I didn't have a good home and sometimes they were the only good thing in my life. It's priceless.
Mr. Rogers taught us that you're perfect just the way you are. You're unique. There's just one you.
"It's such a good feeling, to know you're alive."
He believed in in you, and so do I!
These two taught our generation care and compassion and the importance of learning and reading. Bob Ross taught us patience and the beauty of life. Steve Irwin gave us a love for nature and its inhabitants. Man, we had it so good.
Yeah. We really did. We grew up in a magical time between the great technology jumps but still in a great world of progress. Wish they were here to help but kind of glad they aren’t seeing what happened to their world….
That’s the first thing I wondered about as well. I work security at an art museum and gallery. Crazy that with how knowledgeable Lavar is, that he would just straight up touch a painting.
His reading rainbow voice has changed a bit. His beautiful rumbling voice was damaging his vocal cords. He had to have therapy to learn to speak in a way that easier on his voice and it's a noticeable difference. It doesn't change the emotion and expression he brings to his reading, though. He explains this on some episodes of his podcast, Lavar Burton Reads. He reads short stories that he chooses. I recommend it if you miss him reading to you.
In 1998, I won “Paper Carrier of the Year” in the Pittsburgh area. It was an essay contest more than how well I delivered papers… but I got to meet Mr. Rogers. And he spoke to the group of us at a banquet the William Penn Hotel.
I was an honor.
MRN gave me such a sense of calm in childhood. When I hear that era of the RR theme song, it always makes me cry now. I wish I still believed in things like hope.
In any event, if no one has seen this amazing fan made parody of the Americans-panic-hoarding-toilet-paper-during-lockdown wherein Lady Elaine panic boards construction paper…
Enjoy

And I'm sure I'm missing more, but we need more people like them. Lord knows we could use that energy now.
My personal Mt. Rushmore would replace Bob Ross with Jim Henson.
Nothing but respect and admiration for both men, but I think it's plain to see that Henson wielded infinitely larger influence on generations of viewers. Even forgetting The Muppet Show (which is painful for me to even *conceptualize* forgetting,) we wouldn't have had Sesame Street without Jim.
Even if one personally didn't get a lot of mileage out of Sesame Street, the value it provided to underprivileged kids across the country was immeasurable. It was every bit as important as Mr. Rogers Neighborhood and/or Reading Rainbow.
But he *also* gave us the timeless magic of The Muppet Show. (And Emmett Otter's Jugband Christmas, Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, The Witches, The Storyteller, The Jim Henson Hour, and - lesser recognized - the first TMNT movie. Among other treasures.)
PS - If y'all haven't already, I'm begging you: *PLEASE* watch the new episode of The Muppet Show (currently streaming on D+) as many times as you can stomach. It's wonderful, and the more people watch it, the better the chances it will be picked up for more new episodes. ♥️

\^ If you went to a public school like I did before starting my 5th grade, your class already knew the lyrics by the 3rd and 4th grade and were singing along. But once I started going to a private school by the 5th grade, they never showed us Reading Rainbow.
From 1987 to the first half of 1991 were some great times for me. Sesame Street and Reading Rainbow before brain rot videos on YouTube ruined children's minds.
I couldn't help think the same thing. I love both of them to no end. Both made my childhood and also the world at large more beautifu. But LeVar!! Haha
Two great guys I’m thankful I got to grow up with. And for my rant, I absolutely hate the AI videos of Mr. Rogers saying awful jokes and cussing, he’s rolling over in his grave with those
I was like 5-8 and I am very old now, so I dont remember the exact conversations, but I definitely thought i was super cool. (I also watched Mr. Rodgers until I was at least 13..lol)
Two genuine gems. 🫡 Thank you Geordi. And RIP Mr. Rogers.
I always make note that if you need a final memory of what Mr. Rogers was like - the humbleness of the man - watch his acceptance speech at emmys for Lifetime Achievement Award. You can find it on YouTube.
Maaaaan, the nostalgia.
If only we all would be the kind of people Mr Rogers would have wanted us to be….
(Now I’m sitting here with *Butterfly in the skyyyyy, I can go twice as hiiiighhhh* in my head.
I found this hanging in a Chinese Restaurant in Vegas a long time ago. If anyone deserves fine art portraits it’s this guy.
