What are the best local jewelers for an engagement ring? (I'm getting ready to propose to my girlfriend)

I live in Richardson, but I'm open to buying anywhere in DFW. I'd like recommendations beyond the big box stores like Jared or Kay (they have big markups, so I hear). I'd also love it if the place was good for wedding rings later on when the time comes.
If it helps to know, I'm looking for a pear/marquise/oval shape for the main stone, with gold being the main metal setting.

Lab Grown Diamonds Dallas, they have very competitive pricing for engagement rings in Dallas! https://labgrowndiamondsdallas.com/

Go straight to Fuller's Jewelry & Diamonds. They made a marquise on yellow gold ring for me that looks way better than what I saw in the big chains, and I did not walk out feeling like I paid just for a logo on the door.

Try Diamond and Gold Warehouse in Dallas, near the Galleria Mall! It's all one-on-one, so they offer a lot of education, and you can see their step-by-step process. They are pretty competitive in pricing as well. They can show you the comparison between natural and lab-grown diamonds.

Just had one designed at Fuller's in Addison, excellent service and results were spectacular!

This is less about the jeweler and more just an FYI.
The issue at say a Kay’s jeweler is the are going to by a lot of diamonds of a particular grade range and size. They the set all of those diamonds in similar settings and charge virtually the same price for all. Obviously, in this scenario someone is getting the “best” diamond in that lot and someone else is getting the “worst” but paying the same price.
Find a place that lets you pick a diamond, then you can buy a setting from them or anyone else if you want. Likely 85-95% of the cost is going to be the diamond so focus your time and energy getting the best value you can there.

Lab grown diamonds are far less expensive than "natural" and a lot less morally questionable!
Markham and Marquis in Frisco both have excellent selections. Markham has far more wedding bands than any store I've been to.

Yeah I’m pro lab grown but I’m not trying to marry OP’s GF. She may not be.
scarface4tx@reddit (OP)
I'm pretty confident she'll not mind the lab grown part at all
Pretty_Shallot_586@reddit
if you buy a lab grown diamond and then in 10-15 years when you guys have a little money and she wants to upgrade I just want you to know that the lab grown diamond will literally be worth $0.
Just a warning for you.
scarface4tx@reddit (OP)
Thanks for the warning but resale value isn't really a priority for me. Even if we wanted to upgrade (which I doubt) I'll be making more money by then so I won't care if it's worth less than I paid.
Pretty_Shallot_586@reddit
totally understand and I am not trying to talk you into anything. I just want you to know that there are a lot of BS'ers out there who will tell you all kinds of crazy things about labs growns and I know a few folks who were devastated to find out that a lab they bought for $2,000 was worth about $100 in resale. Its not that they have no value, obviously the sentimental value is worth more than anything. But the person you buy it from will not buy it back. It's not that it'll be worth less, it will not have any resale value at all. Value is what the market puts on things and the market for after retail lab growns is basically zero.
scarface4tx@reddit (OP)
Yeah thanks for the heads up.

A natural diamond will also be worth fairly little secondhand. The gold or platinum it's set in will be the most valuable part of the ring, unless it's an unusually large or good quality stone, or unless the ring is from a famous and coveted designer.
Pretty_Shallot_586@reddit
you: A natural diamond will also be worth fairly little secondhand. T
me: you know absolutely nothing about diamonds and any conversation moving forward would be pointless. have a nice day.
unorocks@reddit
I mean, the GIA gemologists on r/jewelers routinely say that natural diamonds are worth 30-50% what you paid for them unless they're significant stones in some way. I'll agree with you that that's still likely more than what a lab diamond can fetch, but let's not pretend diamonds (natural or lab) are an investment.

Jalin Jewelers in Plano. Preston and Spring Creek.

If you want a custom piece, they bring out a giant book you can look through to give ideas.
cleargummybears@reddit
Are you looking for a natural or man made stone?
Natural - Cook’s Man made - Diamontrigue in Addison
Not sure either have a good web presence but both are small with great customer service and can customize most anything.
I have different pieces from both, and have been a repeat customer.
scarface4tx@reddit (OP)
Man made diamond or moissonite. Natural diamonds appear to be out of my budget

If you have money to spend for quality then try Eiseman in Northpark. They have a wide range of off the rack and custom options. They are not cheap though.
robbzilla@reddit
Collections in Saginaw, if you're really up for the drive. They do custom work, or off the rack so to speak. They have 3D wax printers to make a model you can hold, and figure out what you love'/hate about it.

I’ve been very happy with Mariloff over the years. They’re in Addison off beltline and the tollway

Bought my engagement ring there, great experience

I absolutely recommend The True Gem in the Uptown area. Both my wife's engagement ring and wedding band were made to my specifications locally.

Check out Village Goldsmith at Forestwood antique mall. It’s in the back. Lots of nice vintage and antique pieces. They also have a jeweler on site that can make something as well.

Not in DFW but one option to consider is working with a jeweler from NYC diamond district. I live in DFW now but used to live in NY and I got my ring from Kim’s Jewelry. I went looking around at a lot of places but knew I ultimately wanted to stick with a jeweler in the diamond district because 1) price would be cheaper buying from a wholesaler. also i learned that 90% of the diamonds imported into US go through NYC diamond district. You would get better price going through this area I think, 2) i wanted to custom my ring, which i think you can do at a lot of places but mix that in with reason #1, i decided to go with a jeweler from this area. I personally went with Kim’s Jeweler after stopping by and talking to several stores. Their customer service was great and even now I am so happy I went with them.

Aura Diamonds in Farmers Branch! You can customize to the smallest detail.

Kubes in Fort Worth. They're on Berry near TCU and they are amazing.

I liked Brilliant Earth in West Village. They offer complimentary cleaning which also gives a good excuse to go back and stroll West Village lol
burgercatluna@reddit
Brilliant earth has really bad reviews online, just a heads up. Not saying they’ve done you wrong, but ive seen major issues with quality

How picky is your future fiancée? I went to Costco and she loved it.
scarface4tx@reddit (OP)
Prob not the best. I'm not a member of Costco, and even if so I might want some customizing options (idk how much Costco allows tbf)
