Tongsheg TSDZ8 Motor Review After 3500km

I’ve been running this motor for a over 2 years now and I have over 3500km on it now! I usually ride with pedal assist on mode 4-5, I also use a throttle. Overall it’s been holding up really well.
The only real issue I ran into was the front chainring wearing out at around 2000 km. I think that was partly my fault, I didn’t start with a brand new chain when I mounted the motor and I’m pretty sure the chain was already stretched out, so that caused the wearing to happen faster. I am also very pleased with the torque sensor!
At around 3000 km I opened the motor to check how the grease was holding up inside. Everything actually looked fine. Since I already had it open, I cleaned it up and regreased it anyway.
In terms of performance it has plenty of torque for climbing hills. What I really like about mid drives is the multiple gears. It makes long distance riding much more efficient compared to hub motors. The thing that I dont like the most is the throttle that has lag, it takes around 1 seconds after pressing it until the motor starts spinning.
Overall I’m pretty happy with it. It’s not perfect, but for the price and performance I’d say it’s a very good deal.
If anyone’s interested, I made a long term review video where I go into more detail about how the motor performs, I also talk about some other motor options! Here is the link https://youtu.be/tdkwHpr-MBk?si=U-lIanrWaS48Ma4S

Did you use a special drivetrain like Shimano Cues or did you keep the one that was on the bike? If so what derailleur do you have?

thank you for this post. im a new owner of the same motor but only with torque sensor pedal assist.
i only have 4 level,i use on the first level in 95%, only switch to higher level if a hill is too steep, so i can ride with one full charge around 120 km.
I really like how much torque it has,its really powerfull, i can leave an intersection in no time, i ride mostly in city so its really useful for me.
But i felt a little dangerous at the start.i have to learn to ride it ;)

Looks good. The bash plate over the front of the motor looks effective.

yeah..thanks,works fine against most of the dirt and water but the air cooling remains effective.

Looks to be made of old inner tubes, or is it shaped plastic?

Nice! I see another OG ebiker on this forum. I’ve only about 574-ish km on my odometer and it’s still working great. It’s quite nice to see that you decided to open up the motor for maintenance.

Glad to hear yours is working well. If you decide to open the motor up be careful to not lose any washers inside of the motor, it's really easy to mess up.

Gotcha! Thanks for the notes. I’ll be sure to do maintenance around the 2k mark

Nice, I also run a TSDZ8. I haven't done any maintenance on the motor yet, and I only have like 500km on it. So it's nice to hear at 3000km you didn't really need to do anything. Also where did you buy a new front chainring? I actually want to shrink my front chainring because of the steep hills that I need to climb every time I ride.
I'm also a fair weather rider mainly, so I haven't really stress tested it but it looks like it held up real well for you in the snow.

Ebikestuff.eu I think that was the site, I couldn't find any other place was the only option. It wasn't cheap 🙁
