How much additional compensation is typical for Canada loads? (US Drivers)

I’d like to get everyone’s opinion on this. What would be fair for someone willing to run loads to Canada and back? If there’s no price that would make it worth it for you, I completely understand. This question is directed to drivers who are willing to take Canada loads or are already running them.

My company pays $100 for a border crossing and it seems decent. The real perk is being able to run Canadian HOS so I can get more miles in a day

I used to get a bonus for border crossing. Was $50 or $100. I forget. Now it’s just my normal hourly rate. Just do what you can to make sure it’s smooth. All the customs paperwork in order, cover tolls for the bridge crossings/fees. If everything is in order, crossing is just a couple minutes answering questions each way. Add a little time if it’s in bond. Used to run Baltimore to Ontario 2 or 3 times a week running in bond tractors. Only hiccups came when the paperwork had issues. Now I’m running an occasional big machine. No paperwork hiccups anymore, but have to stop and pay big tolls when I cross a bridge.

When I was hauling chemicals for Schneider over a decade ago I was paid $150-200 extra to go into Canada plus $15 an hour detention for broker side border delays.

That’s what i am getting currently for each load. Typically 1-3 loads per week because we don’t have drivers willing to go to Canada.

Lol well they're full of crap... Quebec isn't as good as Ontario with that, but Ontario is typically on point with salt and snow removal on the highways. They even have those plows that can do 2 lanes with one machine. Pretty cool actually.

Why would you need extra compensation? I'm Canadian and when I ran stateside I was paid the same as in Canada.

Who tf says we don't salt our roads? Wtf are you on? In Ontario we even pre treat with calcium chloride does wonders for keeping the roads ice free.

Yeah not sure where they got that info from. Have rarely ever dealt with black ice here in Southern Ontario.

As a Canadian I’ve always been under the impression that interstate loads paid more than cross border freight. We cannot legally haul US to US freight, but those loads are usually paid out higher. There are some exceptions of course, but I wouldn’t expect a premium hauling to Canada. Those lanes have a ton of competition btw.
