What’s your ‘I can’t believe you’re paid more than me’ story?

Earlier today I was speaking to my managers manager, the regional manager of a multi billion corporation in the UK. I’m an office manager at this particular building and I was running through a list of expenses we were quoted for repairs. I explained one was £450 +VAT for one repair. I explained it would be £540. She looked at me like I was stupid and said “where did you get that number from? VAT is 20%, it’s £470?” I said “20% of £450 is £90, so 90+450 is £540” she stared at me blankly and said “but why isn’t it £470?” I had to explain 20% is only 20 when it’s 20% out of 100. Now that I think about it, I’m probably paid about 20% of her salary and all…
