What’s your ‘I can’t believe you’re paid more than me’ story?

I worked for a spin-out company at a major university. We ran a recruitment website that any of you in the hard sciences, academia, PhD or post-doc space would know of. It sounds like Jorbs Aye Cee Yoo Kay. The founder of the company left and in a mad panic, the university sent us an administrator from University House. She had refused a laptop for years. She had a member of our staff print out her emails to read. This was in 2012. Our website relied on being good at what it did because we carefully vetted job adverts, so most of the data-entry staff were students in their field who understood the ads and could categorize them properly. I was in charge of the web\_team that made special break-out websites if some of the big universities or government departments were on a mad recruitment drive for lecturers for a new department / postgrads for a project , or a slew of PhD candidates for a big research push, and wanted a special marketing effort. The University that owned the company reliably got about £5 million per year from what we did. We were respected by 'University House' and in that year, were asked to attend an award ceremony in which, tellingly, we were approached by every other department asking who we were and where we were based, because they'd never heard of us. The new 'boss' was mostly concerned by the appearance of the office. Within a week of her hiring, she expressed concern that one of our best graphic designers was a PhD student from East Timor. She had him fired, which seriously messed up his visa. This also messed up the whole operation. The company relied on having current students manage the data we dealt with, because they understood it. She also instigated parking charges for all of our temp employees, at such ruinous rates that there was really no point to them showing up. I sat in several meetings with her to explain that the company had been a success due to relying on the goodwill of students. It had given them a unique lifeline and was a reason people had worked so hard there. The team developing the app started to quit, then all the designers quit, then they had to bring in outside agencies to do all the data input despite a decade of being one of the best student employers on campus. Some of you know which university this would be. I saw the boss in a local pub a few years ago and she pretended to not know me.
