Resident Taqueria for us. Place is incredible. Wish it wasn't closed Sundays
curiouslywtf@reddit
Mario Bros
Extreme-Cod606@reddit
Owner isn’t friendly, nor polite….no thanks.
Vitals22@reddit
Second Mario Bros Tacos as a great taco joint!! but that’s weird , I have been going frequently for the past 5+ years and never had an issue. The family who owns it always seems to treat everyone like family. Maybe your energy was reciprocated? We as customers should treat workers like humans instead of servants
aUCK_the_reddit_Fpp@reddit
Wow thats crazy, people have always been friendly when i go there.
curiouslywtf@reddit
?? I've talked to the family a few times and haven't had issues. Worker did mention not to tip though because the owner takes it
Vitals22@reddit
second! great food and service, tips are probably given back at the end of month/year as bonuses like most business, who knows
Vitals22@reddit
Mario Bros Tacos
aUCK_the_reddit_Fpp@reddit
Personally i like the tacos at the has station at miller/saturn. I really like their tacos with their grilled onions.
AwHellNawFetaCheese@reddit
Resident is great but it's definitley not your classic street taco type place, they do a lot of really inventive shit along with the classic flavors but there is some sticker shock when you think about it just being tacos. Like they have a scallop taco for 9 dollars, it's fck amazing just not your typical spot.
demonhalo@reddit
Tacos la banqueta puro df
Jefferw86@reddit
The one on N Carroll, absolutely! The other location, on Gaston, not so much. Weird but that’s my opinion.
AwHellNawFetaCheese@reddit
Interesting - My experience was the opposite! Both good!
colonel_beefy@reddit
Gaston location is great!
demonhalo@reddit
N Carroll or bust.
willed11@reddit
Not weird, it's true.
FaBiOtHeGrEaTeSt@reddit
Yes! You really can’t go wrong with any meat! The Al Pastor is the best in the city too
mchante14@reddit
This is what I was looking for. Less than $2.50 a taco is great

rex_lauandi@reddit
Nah, the staff at this place was rude af to me. They made my pregnant wife and I get up and give the table to another group because they had put in their order before us. We sat down at an empty table and then an employee walked up with a family and said that they needed the table since they put their order in before us.
At any rate, there are lots of great places with tacos in DFW. It’s worth going somewhere with good tacos and good service.
Mission_Quarter_6395@reddit
I mean if they put in an order before yall and you were seated at a 4 top when there only 2 of you… yeah
rex_lauandi@reddit
No, i mean you weren’t there, but…
This family of three order at the register next to us. My (pregnant) wife and I put in our order at the same time as them, and turned around to go find a table. I don’t know what these three were doing in the mean time. As we walked, a guy looked at me and said, “do yall need a table? We’re leaving” so me and my wife sat down.
A little bit later the employee walks up with those three and says, “these people put in their order before you so you need to give them your table.”
I’ve never been anywhere where it was my job to make sure everyone was seated in the order they placed their orders. I don’t even know if they placed their order before us (they were in line before us, but I’m not sure who swiped their card first).
But literally everywhere I’ve ever eaten before that has open seating is just that: open. First come first serve. If you want a different policy, you can absolutely seat people with a host system or even a reservation system. It isn’t like my pregnant wife and I raced these people to get the empty table.
I just think it’s appalling to tell a pregnant woman she has to give up her table when she sat down first.
smapzzy@reddit
Sounds like you’re more upset than your pregnant wife but go off ig

Literally Taco joint

Found the Gringo
Luka7Porzinwitzki@reddit
There’s people on here mentioning Taco Bell and Tacos Y mas that are far inferior to TJ but you going to comment on me lol.
He didn’t say authentic taqueria and Taco Joint has some of the best breakfast tacos to me.
If you want street tacos there is probably better places but taco joint kills breakfast
NintendogsWithGuns@reddit
Tacos y Mas has better breakfast tacos.
Luka7Porzinwitzki@reddit
No way my guy. I live right by a Y mas and have done the breakfast for both numerous times and it’s not close. What are you getting?
TJ has brisket, chorizo, refried beans and potato’s that blow anything taco y mas does out of the water.
NintendogsWithGuns@reddit
TJ’s beans taste like unseasoned cement and their signature salsa is literally ranch dressing. Tacos y Mas’ migas taco is extremely good and their salsas are actually salsas. I will say that Taco y Mas is not always the most consistent, but I’ve never had a bad breakfast taco from them.
Born and raised in Dallas and I will never understand why people glaze Taco Joint so much. It’s not even “Tex-Mex,” it’s just gringo tortilla slop and not a terribly well done version of it at that. I get that Dallas sorta has slim pickings when it comes to breakfast tacos, but there are better options out there.
Luka7Porzinwitzki@reddit
We can disagree on this, that’s fine.
“Literally ranch dressing” no it’s not, cmon have you even been? that’s not even true. They don’t even have a signature salsa they have 3 different kinds of salsa, a tomatillo, Roja and a jalapeño ranch (that is delicious) and all 3 are better than the salsa options at Y mas, that’s the last thing you should bring up to support Y mas tbh.. their salsa sits out all day having people get it with their hands and half the time it’s old and runny as hell. That’s assuming they even have the salsa you want and it’s not out.
I live right by 2 and they are both the same. It’s alright in a pinch but there is a reason Taco joint is slammed every day and Tacos Y mas has like 1-2 people in it.
NintendogsWithGuns@reddit
The reason why Taco Joint is slammed everyday is because this city is full of midwestern transplants and old white people. You opened that place up in San Antonio and it’d be out of business within a year.
Cu77eR@reddit
The OG tj was in a hood with lots of authentic competition and they still blew up, not everything has to be a fucking gatekeeping authentico competition bro it's a taco, chill out.
NintendogsWithGuns@reddit
Peak Street is not “the hood.” Also, I don’t give a shit about authenticity, as i’ve eaten at most of the Tex-Mex joints in the city at this point. I praise Resident Taqueria pretty often too and was a big fan of Good 2 Go Tacos back in the day.
I just think Taco Joint is bland tasteless slop. There are better gringo tacos, there are better breakfast tacos. That’s just my opinion as a born and bred Dallasite that’s really into food.
Cu77eR@reddit
dude its right next to a flop house i dont know what else you think that would be lol
NintendogsWithGuns@reddit
I’m not a snob for saying I don’t like a restaurant. Also, that area has not always been that way. Certainly not in 2008 when Taco Joint opened.
Where are you from anyway? I mean originally?
Cu77eR@reddit
You think the hotel alder wasnt there in 2008?

_TakeMyUpvote_@reddit
hell yes. and i love the staff there. i have a favorite spot and they know me and my family by name.
MickeyDog77@reddit
There are many different varieties and styles of tacos. Same as there are many different varieties and styles of Italian, Asian, and Mediterranean food. Whenever someone mentions Taco Joint, people jump in and yell "Ha! Those are Gringo tacos!!!"
Well, yeah. Correct. They are Gringo tacos. They are a style of tacos. Not sure what the big deal is.
GallooFinoo@reddit
Because gringo tacos aren't a real thing. It's not a real category in food. Maybe to gringos, but to the rest of the world, they're just a sorry attempt at an authentic Mexican dish.
digitalquesarito@reddit
People like you are so annoying lol. There's so many gringo tacos that are really good.
MickeyDog77@reddit
Does the Library of Congress have the book, "Real Categories of Food"
Because I'd really like to take a gander at that!
You literally said, "not a real category in food."
But then follow up with, "Maybe to gringos."
A "sorry attempt at an authentic Mexican dish" is still in the category of "Tacos".
SMH - gatekeeping Tacos instead of celebrating all of the different kinds.
CabotRaptor@reddit
You are like one of those pizza snobs who claims anything that isn’t a Neapolitan pizza straight from fricken Italy isn’t a real pizza
Taco joint is just average, but not literally everything has to be an authentic CDMX taco.
Especially when anything remotely authentic is probably a 30 min drive from me in traffic when there might be a place right across the street

Resident gives me the vibe that someone ate at Velvet Taco once, watched The Bear and then opened a restaurant.

It’s owned by a former culinary instructor that worked in lots of Michelin kitchens. Also, it’s Saint Vincent’s older brother. She does DJ sets there during the holidays sometimes. She used to help behind the counter sometimes before she got super famous.

Not my top joint but shoutout to a new spot. Tacos Juancho. It feels like Chilangos did before Chilangos got new owners and started expanding. If you miss the higher quality original Chilangos...get over to Juancho ASAP.
Stressed32@reddit
This place is a straight up copy and paste of Chilangos. It looks the exact same and has most, if not all, of the exact same items on the menu.
ProsperX@reddit
This place is begging for a lawsuit. They just up and kocked off Chilango's branding and menu. The ribeye taco they stole is terrible. The chicharon was mealy and gross. The salsa's were nearly bland. The torreados were straight bland. Clearly cheaping out on protein. Shameful money grap.
