Not the whole name I worked in’s hospital in the 90s and we had a cardiologist called Dr. Beat. A Dermatologist called Dr. Cream and a Urologist called Dr. Winkle. I was crying laughing as I processed their waiting lists!! The last one is straight out of a carry on film. And an anaesthesiologist called and I am notating this up, Dr. De’ath. Pronounced Dee Ath not death.

I always thought it was originally "de Ath" as in, the French for "of Ath" (which is a town in Belgium). I just went and Googled it and it looks as though there's half a dozen potential origins, with that being one of them.

A guy I was at university with changed his name to Tarquin Fin-tim-lin-bin-whin-bim-lim Bus-stop F'tang-F'tang Olé Biscuitbarrel. Obviously it was a stunt - he did this in order to stand in a parliamentary by-election and get on TV - and the name was taken from the Monty Python "Election Night Special" sketch. But it was his actual name. For a while.

There's a British politician called Yvette Cooper. Her husband is Ed Balls. There is a reason she does not use her married name and I don't think it's because she's a feminist. I have a coworker who changed his name from Cockhead not because of teasing but because websites and bookings kept rejecting his name. One thing would let the online form submit so he called and they hung up on him.

Not just the name but at school we had an English teacher who was called Andrew Dick. This was funny enough but the poor bloke got promoted to being in charge of the whole English department. His office door had the sign on it "A. Dick - Head of English" It was white lettering on a black sign. They had to change it after it was defaced repeatedly with a black marker so only the "A Dick Head" was visible. All the doors got new signs but with creative use of masking tape it still was made to read "A Dick Head" In the end I think they just changed it to "Head of English"
