Torn between a tippmann vs just buying an mrp converted 22 barrel and cmmg conversion kit that can plug and play. Probably cost the same either way
Relative-Echo-4434@reddit
Tippmann also sells an m4 elite upper conversion kit, got one for $315 from Optics planet. Works really well and a ton of fun.
Kind_Examination1352@reddit
This is what I'm really curious about. I want to build a AR15 but also want to shoot .22. Was thinking about getting a cheap PSA stealth lower and then getting the M4-22 Elite upper to shoot .22. Can swap in a 5.56 upper down the road.
Curious about which is better. I don't mind buying two separate guns if the fit, finish, and reliability are better buying the M4-22 as a complete vs running the upper conversion.
Relative-Echo-4434@reddit
You could easily swap between the two, or just build out a dedicated lower with a nice trigger. Great cheap and effective trainer.
Psychological-Drive4@reddit
If you get the conversion, then decide you want a dedicated upper you would already have most of the parts.

What are the pros of having a dedicated .22 AR vs a conversion kit (BCG and mag) in a regular 5.56/.223?
blackjoker4077@reddit
Wondering this myself... I assume the dedicated .22lr is probably more accurate at longer distances, but aside from that, I'm not sure.
My conversion kit works well, and I get to use the same optics/set up I use with 5.56, so I'll keep with that since most of my shooting is under 100yrds anywho
Vindictive_Turnip@reddit
So the bcg replacement conversion kit is fine for a mag or two. Personally, with my 1:7 twist rate barrel I get about 8-10 moa. It's fine for getting people comfortable with "the big scary rifle", learning controls, etc. Other than that I never pull it out of my range bag. It's just not fun with the accuracy I'm getting. (I am getting 1.25-1.75 moa from my rifle with cheap m193 and a very basic bitch barrel. I'd be happy to get 2-3 moa from the conversion, but when I grab my target and the rounds are all over a dinner plate at 50m I start getting unhappy)
There is also fear of 22lr bullets getting shaved a bit as they pass the gas port. I don't know how founded those fears are, or the round count required to start seeing noticable effects.
22 is dirty, but I don't run 22 through my gun enough to notice.
I've been thinking about building a 22 upper that can mimic my main rifle upper set up so that I can get accurate and cheap training done, but it keeps getting pushed down the priority list. The idea being I use my main rifle lower, and the dedicated 22 upper.
At this point I might just pick up one of these or the next higher tier Tippmann.
1541drive@reddit
8-10 MOA isn't so bad at 25yds or closer.
Vindictive_Turnip@reddit
You would be right, but I am using an lpvo, and while I am very confident in pistol shooting, I don't spend nearly as much time or energy shooting rifles. Thus, seeing the inaccuracy through the scope leaves me second guessing if I'm doing something wrong, or if my scope is out of zero, or any number of other things.
I then spend what should be either focused practice time or some leisurely bench shooting time worried about things that ultimately haven't been a problem.
It simply is a me problem. The inaccuracy gets in my head, and I stop having fun.
1541drive@reddit
I'm looking forward to trying out an LVPO at 25yds or closer. I'm shooting 15, 25 and 50 yards with a red dot + 3x mag.
ejpman@reddit
Reliability and accuracy are the main points. That being said my conversion kit runs pretty good but cases getting stuck in the upper is a PITA.
BBQSauce61@reddit
Accuracy, and potentially reliability.
I have an RTB upper. Seemed like a good compromise vs a whole new rifle. Flawless so far, and it justs pops onto whatever lower, so no need to buy new triggers, etc, although eventually it will probably get its own lower...
Diligent-Parfait-236@reddit
Accuracy is trash out of a fast twist .223 barrel. By which I mean all of them.

doshdoshdoshdosh@reddit
Gah, I've been waiting for a deal on the elite. I wonder if they'd be open to selling to CA if they ship without the mag, it would be the only thing making it restricted.
doshdoshdoshdosh@reddit
For those interested, the 10-round variant of the elite is also on sale for the same price, just call them for a quote. I was told it will take a few extra days for shipment of that particular item since it's not exactly popular, but A+ customer service for interactions with their sales staff so far
Richthe1@reddit
What’s the best one to get? I don’t know much about the tippmann models, but people seem to speak highly of them!
flysctysfinest@reddit
If you plan on running it as is and want/like the furniture it cures with, then get an elite. If you plan on replacing furniture, I’d get the pro.
Vijaywada@reddit (OP)
Go for the elite.
Liquid_Mercury@reddit
It shows as $610 for me.
Gatecrasher@reddit
I think this is a standard AR lower pattern, unlike most other 22AR.
For those in places with silly 18-21 not-an-adult proclamations.
Advanced-Persimmon-4@reddit
its not exactly standard AR, it won't work with AR15 uppers
Gatecrasher@reddit
Thanks for the correction notice. I edited my post.
I could have sworn someone did, I can't recall who.
BBQSauce61@reddit
But will use most ar triggers and grips, and its a metal reciever and model depending, the hanguard, unlike MP1522s.
nope_noway_@reddit
I have this in black and the S&W… can’t go wrong with either but the Tippmann has metal receivers, can take a lot of different handguards (I went with a metal full length Expo for like $80 shipped) and can take Larue MBT2S triggers.
S&W .22 is mostly proprietary and plastic. Still a very reliable and accurate shooter. The tippman just feels more like a real AR tho.
If you want to run a FRT I’d suggest just getting the .22 CMMG or Colt conversion
Vic_the_Dick@reddit
I’ve had the S&W for a few years and my biggest gripe is the plastic pistol grip screw threads. They really should’ve added a pressed insert or a helicoil, which I will add if they ever give out.
Given the option, I’d probably take the Tippmann over the S&W.
1541drive@reddit
I have the 15-22 8" pistol version. Reliable and runs great.
BUT.... the plastic feels cheap. If they had metal lower receiver and plastic elsewhere it would have been good enough. But you touch the lower receiver so much that it's not right for my airguns to have more metal and feel better than this.

Way_2_Go_Donny@reddit
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Pro is a metal receiver set that takes mil-spec compatible triggers and grips, yeah?
norightsbutliberty@reddit
They're all metal uppers and lowers. The differences are in stuff like the handguard, so there isn't necessarily a reason to buy an Elite if you're going to change the handguard.
These are fantastic guns. Only real downside is the proprietary plastic charging handle travel is limited compared to a real AR, but otherwise it's a very fun and functional training tool.

I love mine. It’s the best .22lr AR on the market at this price point imo. If you’re planning on replacing furniture, you’re best bet is the pro. The elite comes with metal furniture, the pro cores with polymer furniture, LTE has polymer furniture and polymer buffer tube.
hitemlow@reddit
Is it true you can't put a trip kit in these?
Big_Q_Numero_Uno@reddit
No cause its a proprietary bolt and the rear shelf has a wall
