This is a somewhat minor nitpick but I really wish it didn't have slide cuts. It's such a bizarre choice on what's supposed to be a rigged defensive handgun to add functionless ports for debris to enter the slide. All that would do is make me paranoid about cleaning. I wonder if you could 3d print plugs for them.

They could've just done a dish cut like Glock does with their long slides if that were a concern. This isn't for lightening, it's an appeal to the "tacticool" crowd.

You mean the ports? It’s a comped model, you can buy the non-comp version with 3/4” shorter barrel/slide and save yourself $100

This is a single port comp. There is only one port, and it's on top of the barrel. The slide cut for the compensator is also on top. Compensators eject gas from the top of the barrel, not the sides.
In addition to the cut for the compensator, SW decided to place non-functional, aesthetic window cuts on the side of the slide.
The compensator would let lint into the barrel and the first shot would blow it out.
The window cuts allow debris back into the mechanism which, in theory, could cause jams and affect the function of the pistol.

Honestly I’m surprised they’re on sale at all. I got mine mid day at a local cabelas that is not particularly busy, especially this time of year, and they said it was the fifth one they’d sold that day already. With the demand for them I’m pretty surprised they’re hitting sales like this, but I’d guess they’re moving some inventory for the new “bespoke” lineup of colors.

I wanted the comp, but I got the non-comped FE/ODE color pattern because I like that color and it came with two extra 12 rnd mags for $420. Smith & Wesson also stated that the slide for both are interchangeable and they will start selling the comped slide & barrel at some point in the future.

I got the comped because I have big hands and don't want to worry about my support hand thumb near the muzzle. So a little bit longer was better for me, plus I don't plan on pocket carrying so the length wasn't a concern.

Agreed. My buddy has both and let me test them out at my range this past weekend. I felt more reduced recoil from the extended magazine than I did the comp with some norma ball range ammo. I did feel some difference with Remington Ultimate Defense rounds that were much spicier but still very manageable. I ended up going with the ported version myself (I actually posted this deal earlier for the non-comp version). My main reason was the better slide cuts made the racking of the slide easier and I like the green sight over the red. If you’re worried about size, then get the regular one and save $100 as it’s practically the same size as an LCP with an extended magazine.

I’ve got the non-comp version and really like it. It has a great feel in the hand, it’s very easily concealable IWB with gym shorts or tighter clothing, and it’s easily my favorite .380 to carry right now.

Do dealers pay different prices based on volume perhaps? I asked a local one time about price match and he stated that his price was more than the advertised sell price. And this was AIM surplus so they crank some out. Different gun.

Yes and no. It wouldn’t surprise me if large dealers can negotiate preferential pricing, either with the manufacturer or wholesale distributors.
That being said, some manufacturers have incentive programs for dealers. The more guns you sell the more the more points/rewards you get. It wouldn’t directly reduce the purchase price of the guns but gives the dealers some flexibility if they want to lower prices in order to sell enough to qualify for those incentives.
