I bought one to try it. I have a dozen various Holosun and other handgun sized optics but my G19 22LR conversion didn't have a means and probably wouldn't survive a optic milling. It was a decent idea but the window of the optic is tiny, which forces you to be perfectly aligned to see through it. Since I just do target practice with the 22LR I don't mind the need for perfect alignment, however I would never use this on a carry gun. I learned on irons so my presentation is decent to where I can see the dot nearly right away, but if you have not put the time into shooting irons, I wouldn't bother with this. This is a dot for guys who prefer irons, not a dot for someone who wants a slide mounted optic instead of irons.
Also this sticks out about an inch behind the back plate, and you have the remove the button/battery cover if you need to remove the slide.

Kind of apples and oranges, but I think most everyone would prefer a Holosun. If you don’t have a milled slide or want/care to have it milled, this is an option for a red dot.

Does holosun make a dovetail-mounted optic? Not with some 3rd party adapater. This is kind of a specific use case. I'd like to try one just to see how it does.

Not that I'm aware of. You may be able to find an adapter plate that fits a dovetail and the holosun mounts on top.

It's nice for what I wanted. A red dot for a glock that wasn't high commitment in modification or cost. If you're worried about having backup sights it works as a ghost ring as well.
