For this specific kit it does appear that way. The m948 tube can be sourced from wherever it is that makes the repro mp40 tubes, I don’t remember the website tbh

AFAIK the grease gun clone would be crazy difficult without the right tooling or knowledge, Some companies have made tubes that you mill out and weld on, but that's much easier said then done. and I would be surprised if they were ever made for this kit.
The CETME includes a barrel, but that actually makes assembly a little harder if you want to use it because it's welded to the receiver. Though these build are pretty well documented (relatively) so if you can weld and fold a receiver It might be worth it.

The CETME having a barrel doesn't make assembly harder. You have to demil the trunnion and cocking tube either way. If anything it saves you work since you wouldnt have to press the barrel.
That all assumes the barrel is actually usable and bolt gap is good.

It's actually an MP40 tube and bolt, so they're available.
The problem is that unless you're an SOT, they're open bolt full auto only, so there's some custom FCG work involved.

Currently in the process of building one. I bought a flat receiver that I bent and welded. I probably have 12hrs in fitting up the receiver and still not done. Granted it’s my first time so learning curve. If I had to do it over again I would have bought a ready to go receiver. Just my 2 cents. I have a press and welders, thought it would be easy… if you don’t have those tools just buy a receiver.

For anyone on the fence about a CETME, RTG has correct CETME blanks in stock. They're functionally the same, but slightly different from G3 blanks. You'll have to graft the paddle on if you want to retain it.

Best bet is joining Weapons Guild and reading their guides. That is what I ended up doing since all the videos out there are missing segments. I got bending jig and some weldment alignment tools 3d printed by a friend.

The M948's...bit more complicated. But Indy Ordnance does offer a semi auto bolt for it at least (under MP40 section)

As it totally ignorant person what would one need for something like this?
There's no receiver or both etc, and I know things need drilled and welded and stuffed with these builds based on like 5 minutes of research I've done.

The CETME you can buy a receiver flat. Then you need to be able to bend it. So a 12-20 ton press. The jig for pressing can be made or 3d printed. Then it's mostly just a lot of fitting and welding up the receiver.
The 948 I can fully speak to as I haven't 1) seen in person or 2) really looked into. But a new receiver tube would be needed
