How do I send a thank you card to a nurse who helped me ?

I'd like to write a thank you card and send a gift card to a nurse who was very kind and caring during my recent stay in an NHS hospital. I made a note of her name, do I just address a letter to her at the hospital or is that a bit creepy ? Thanks

Don't send a gift card, NHS staff are not allowed to receive monetary gifts and it'll put them in acompromising position. A thank you card is always enough and will be well received, perhaps add chocolates if you're feeling extra generous 😊

This would depend on the hospitals policy on gift value. For example at my trust we would not be able to accept an individual gift of over £49.99. My colleague found this out the hard way when a patient very kindly sent her a gift card for £50. It was given to the hospital charity instead. OP - the fact that you are going to take the time to write and send a card is wonderful and personally I would value that over anything else.

My wife has received wine and gin that was definitely over that limit, easily assumed to be under it though (was pushing that when she got a case of barollo from one patient...). I think the not pricey stuff tends to be private patients.

Oh I didn't know that. I assumed it was a blanket policy of no monetary gifts, unless it's a donation towards one of the charity funds. I just looked up my trust policy and just says only minor token gifts essentially.

My brother is a Porter in a hospital and over covid we used to send him things to the hospital as we couldn’t go and see him. We just put his full name and occupation and it always got to him.

Not"creepy" . Over used word. it is a nice gesture. they will probably really appreciate it . They deserve to be recognised for their hard work and are sometimes under valued. This is a nice thing to do. People often call out bad people and bad treatment but good people and good service can be overlooked. it is nice to give praise when it is due

Not a nurse so can’t keep from that perspective, but from a patient perspective, I’ve learnt it’s not creepy at all, and in fact appreciated by a lot of the nurses and doctors I’ve given cards to over the years. It’s not a thing a lot of patients do, and it can be especially gratifying for nurses and doctors who are used to getting abuse on the wards.

I think that's lovely. I would buy a card; it's a little less personal than a hand written letter, so reduces the risk of coming off as creepy. I look at those posters about violence and abuse of staff and try to be the opposite. She will appreciate it. Don't include a return address - make it clear you don't want a response. I was gently treated in A&E when I came in after a bike crash with a lump on my head and a broken clavicle. The next day I went back with a box of chocolates. My intention was just for the break room, but the triage nurse took my details, so the thanks went to the people who were there. I just hoped it made their day a little better!

If the hospital is near you, take it - and a small gift for the team - to the ward. That’s what we did.

I would address the envelope to “x team” on “x ward” and make a mention of the individual in the card. I don’t think it’s creepy at all. I had knee surgery a few years ago and remember admiring the people who’d sent cards that were pinned to the wall while I was waiting to get put under

Not creepy, they get sent in quite often. Address in to their name, nurse on ward *whatever* then the hospital's address.
