Is this some kind of competition? Who hates money more?

I do like EV sports car, I really want someone to built it. Of course, Chinese automakers are building their own, but I don’t want their.

They're going to want to monetize it somehow. Frankly the TT being electric doesn't bother me. If it had a gas engine, it would be yet another shitass 2.0 Turbo, and the car emulates a retro-futuristic streamliner, so it makes sense for it to be electric.

My brother in christ you’re tripping. The TTS and TTRS SLAPPED
View on Reddit #78709272

Santa_Ricotta69@reddit

The TT RS has a five cylinder, so yes it did. The TTS was a starter car. With all due respect, if internal combustion is going to die with people thirsting over a 2.0T, it's time to let it go. First the C63, and now this? European emissions have neutered cool cars; even the bloody Odyssey still gets a V6
View on Reddit #78709647

PFD_2@reddit

I mean you also have to consider the entire car as well. 3200lbs and awd with 300hp from that twin turbo 2.0L makes the TTS a fucking rocket

pluto7443@reddit

it's a lighter Golf R, what's not to like?

Elvis1404@reddit

I don't think you understand how cars work in Europe. A "boring" 2L 4 cylinder is, and always has been, the "higher-end" engine for daily-driven sportscars. 6+ cylinders engine are unreachable for the majority of the population, the average person drives either an n/a 1.2-1.6 4 cylinder or a turbo 1.0 3 cylinder; being able to afford more than 200hp means that you are RICH, most people are more than satisfied with 120-150hp. You can understand that, with these being the average engines, a 2.0 turbo IS quite exciting
View on Reddit #78710303

Santa_Ricotta69@reddit

I understand the difference in perspective, but Europeans are kind of the outlier. Most other places are used to much bigger and more powerful engines. To us, 2.0Ts are reserved for the low-end. You get that kind of engine in a Elantra R, which is fast, but considered childish and cheap. If Audi is going to make a new sports car, a mini-flagship type thing, they're not going to be served well by giving it that kind of engine next to a premium price tag. It's just bad business
View on Reddit #78714965

Elvis1404@reddit

It's actually the opposite, out of US and Australia engines are small, often even smaller than in Europe. I don't think the main market for this new TT will be the US. Also, the TT has never been a mini-flagship, just a ""cheap"" but good looking coupe based on a Golf
View on Reddit #78716987

Santa_Ricotta69@reddit

I just think it's difficult to go that route when the largest markets for new cars are China and the USA, both of which have plenty of relatively cheap and powerful cars on the market. But we'll see what happens!
View on Reddit #78718342

flGovEmployee@reddit (OP)

If Audi's leadership are competent they will be designing the car with an eye towards China but not catering specifically to it. None of the legacy automakers can hope to do more than slow the rate of marketshare decline in China for the foreseeable future. They need to design cars for the customers they actually have. I do agree this is much more likely to sell well in the EU than the US, but I think if they design for European use cases (range, dimensions, etc.) and US tastes (which in the sports car segment *aren't* that much different than Europe, setting aside displacement and manual take rate, neither of which will apply here) they'll likely end up with a car that sells well (or as well as an EV sports car from Audi can sell) in Europe and a decent chance within the US if they can figure out tariffs and pricing and there is more than a few dozen US sports car buyers who want an EV. Actual size of the EV sports car market is a complete unknown at this point (aside from some plausible upper bound guesses), given the US' lack of interest in EVs broadly and desire for manual transmissions in their sports cars specifically, I'd guess the size of the potential US market for this car is anywhere from a couple hundred to a couple tens of thousands.

If it's just another millionaire toy I'm going to have a fit. The TT was quite affordable when it first came out.
View on Reddit #78711369

flGovEmployee@reddit (OP)

I believe Audi has said they intend to price it somewhere between where the TT and the R8 was. Which doesn't *really* narrow things down too much. Also I kinda doubt (read hope) they don't name it the TT. It's silly for Porsche to be putting 'Turbo' on their EVs, Audi releasing an EV with a name that is just the Acronym for Twin Turbo would be even more eye roll worthy.
View on Reddit #78729058

Aw man don't be so hard on yourself lol. 99% of people would honestly have never known that unless you were an Audi/VW nerd. I did somewhat lie when I said there has never been a twin turbo'd TT though, back in 2001 quattro GmbH did make one by shortening a B5 RS4 with the 2.7tt and putting a TT body on top.

You can't use 700hp? Sounds like a skill issue
View on Reddit #78708321

TunerJoe@reddit

On which public road can you really take advantage of 700 hp on street tyres with traffic around you and barriers, trees or ditches on both sides of the way? If it's an EV you won't exactly be cruising at top speed on the Autobahn for long either, if the car isn't limited to like 250 or something, that is. Anything you can do with 700 hp on public roads you can also do with 4-500, or maybe even less.
View on Reddit #78709709

Santa_Ricotta69@reddit

Have you ever driven a powerful modem car? It's really not that crazy. I promise there are plenty opportunities to take advantage of power like that. Hell my car has near 500 and it's not even considered a fast car by today's standards
View on Reddit #78709822

flGovEmployee@reddit (OP)

A good sports car would not have so many software layers between the driver and the wheels such that a 700 HP car is 'easy to control.' I'm not doubting that there are 700 HP cars that *are* easy to control, I'm just saying they either aren't good sports cars, or aren't rewarding to drive on public roads doing less than go-to-jail speeds.

So I can be faster than the 911 or the RS6 that park beside me in my parking garage. So I can beat the Tesla 3 Performance beside me at the red light. Why do people ever want more? Because hedonism is fun.
View on Reddit #78715501

Guessididntmakeit@reddit

Faster in a straight line for a couple of minutes. Great value for a battery car eh? If you want to get somewhere you'll be sailing behind trucks so maybe the smarter approach is less power, less weight and more efficiency. I don't know ... I'd rather have the two liter turbo or the 5 cylinder engine and some fun that doesn't require a landing strip.

View on Reddit #78721190

That is my point. Actually, I should be asking you that. Why would anyone care about merely parking next to a nice car? How would I know this purple V12 Vanquish I'm pulling up on isn't owned by a retired senior mycologist because the color reminded them of their favorite mushroom? If I really wanted to engage with other people's nice cars I'd go to a meet or join a club

Not to mention the coolant leaks, oil leaks, and seal failures on ea888 3rd gen. Even in the new GTI they had the balls to put the same craptastic water pump.
View on Reddit #78749281

3rdreprieve@reddit

The EA888 is a fantastic engine… _on paper._ In reality, it has torque everywhere, delivers power almost instantly and is fairly reliable… just like every other turbocharged 4. It sounds like a Mazda 2.5T… which sounds like a Mercedes M2640… which sounds like a Hyundai Theta II turbo… which sounds like a BMW B48… which sounds like a Ford 2.0 EcoBoost… which sounds like a GM L3B… which sounds like a Toyota 8AR-FTS… need I go on? My point is that it sounds _IDENTICAL_ to almost every turbocharged 4 cylinder engine on sale. You don’t get that problem with 6 cylinder engines. You can tell an Audi 2.9TT from a Hyundai 3.3TT from a GM 3.6TT from a Nissan 3.0TT. It’s powerful, fuel efficient and reliable. That’s it. It’s not inspiring, not innovative, not distinctive and most certainly not exciting, no matter how much power you squeeze out of them.

I'm surprised it gets to share a platform with the cayman (although it seems the cayman is not gonna use it anymore). Previous generation seemed like it was heavily nerfed from the factory so it wouldn't step on the cayman's toes, although mods can get it quite far... The most important thing though is the interior. I'm biased but I think the mk3 TT interior is one of the best in any car, ever. It was actually my main factor for picking the TT over the cayman as a daily. It will be hard to beat imo considering how much audi is bandwagoning the screen bukakke trend.
View on Reddit #78696890

EricPro21@reddit

Absolutely agree with you about the interior. Especially on the mk3 TTRS. It’s incredible. Also probably biased
View on Reddit #78740156

Whole-Scene-689@reddit

I've owned S and the RS, it's definitely step up. What's crazy is that you can now get a good condition base TT with 90% the same interior for like, 15k. Probably one of the best deals in used cars right now

View on Reddit #78728887

View on Reddit #78729979

flGovEmployee@reddit (OP)

The Concept-C will be engine-less as it's going to be an EV. I'm *assuming* it will be RWD as that's the objectively correct drive format for a sports car, but it might be AWD given how much people seem to hate having fun and don't understand how traction interacts with snow. It definitely won't be a FWD though.

If it's similarly priced to the 718 then I suspect people would just choose that over the tt. Look at taycan sales vs etron gt...

Can we just make some light updates to the MKIII design and make it a hybrid? As much as I loved my two TT's I'm not buying an electric one. I would buy a hybrid... well as long as it doesn't look like that awful concept car.
View on Reddit #78692957

V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit

Then go with Porsche. I don’t think Porsche wouldn’t make a hybrid 718.
View on Reddit #78701484

iamtehstig@reddit

Can they just make the car from iRobot as their EV sports car?
View on Reddit #78697783

k_dubious@reddit

This makes perfect sense for both. The 718 is supposed to be a driver’s car while the TT is supposed to be a stylish futuristic thing. One of these works a lot better than the other as an EV.
View on Reddit #78697165

IvanRojasX5@reddit

Probably they would give the user the power of choosing between an all-EV power train, an hybrid option, or an ICE option that's ready for non fossil, clean fuels like synthetic gasoline or ethanol. Porsche didn't saw that user's preference coming, and that's why the 718 it's not going to be exclusively electric.
