Has something you’ve seen on tv catapulted you back to particular time/experience?

Addicted to the Olympics, like seriously addicted especially the snowboarding. Anyway was watching last night and some BBC dude went to Lillehammer to go down the bobsleigh run. I was immediately there (12 years ago now) and I remembered the feeling as if it was yesterday as you watched him go down. I remember not being able to scream until we got the bottom. It was scary and exhilarating in equal measures. I have seen places on the tv where I have been but the reaction to this was, I don’t know, more visceral.

I realised watching it, I had been assaulted. Also, that i couldn't put together enough evidence to proceed, So, yeah, there's that.

I don’t have any happy ones to share unfortunately. I watched a film once about a wee boy who was abused and that kind of catapulted me back to my own childhood. There was similar thing, a woman was recounting her domestic abuse survivor’s story and it caused a kind of flashback type thing remember all the things that happened in the house I grew up in. Sorry to hear depressing about it cause your question was really upbeat.

The school scenes in Adolescence on the one hand were perhaps a bit heavy-handed on just how feral schools are, but at the same time they did take me back to the point I actually had to pause and take a breath. One of the most vivid secondary school depictions I’ve seen. That sense of the volatility of some of the kids and just trying to keep your head down as there’s nowhere to hide.

If I see Land Rover Tangis on TV, I go right back to watching the evening news with my mum and granny when I was 5 or so. The noise of helicopters hovering brings me back to sitting in stuffy classrooms in summer, listening to the army monitoring Belfast around the 12th, too 😅
