Well you just don't shoot enough then. I've warrantied 4 SRO's and 2 RMR's. They're good dots, but not infallible. Almost all my warranties other than a broken window on an SRO are moisture getting behind the glass covering the emitter and trijicon has NEVER had less than an 8 week turnaround, stretching up to a quoted "40 week turnaround" during the pandemic (it was actually closer to 30 weeks but still).

Dots fail, I don't expect them to be indestructible. I want reasonably bomb-proof durability, battery life measured in years, and I don't want a shitty design where I have to re-zero the gun every year when I swap the batteries, eventually stripping out the screws and having to fuck with extracting them and replacing them. Holosun OBJECTIVELY has the best products on the market, both in terms of feature set, price point, and certainly in terms of customer service. Their enclosed emitter dots are best in class in each of their footprints, especially the eps/carry series, which offers a superior form factor to almost all the other ginormous and stupidly large mailbox optics on the market. If I wanted enclosed emitter, there are 4-5 different products I'd take before ever looking at a second rcr (yes, I do own one and I won't be picking up a second) and that's disregarding price.

I would say the rmr hd is best in category for open emitter dots in the rmr footprint over the 407/507/508 models, but at twice the cost for arguably marginal benefit. If we're opening the field to all open emitter dots, the new vortex dots are quite good if you're stuck on a dpp footprint and I'd never eat an optics plate to use an rmr hd over just mouting one of those to the gun.

Hell even the new sig dots are supposed to be good, although I think they suffer from the same window-too-fucking-small-for-size-of-optic-body-syndrome issue the trijicon's products suffer from.

The sro, like the rmr type 2, was good for it's time, but has been eclipsed by virtually every newer big window dot on the market that doesn't care about durability (not like the sro isn't fragile too).

Bottom line, in 2026, there is a "Better" product on the market for almost EVERY use case and mounting footprint than what Trijicon produces, with the exception of the rmr hd for the guy who doesn't care about pricetag. And of all those pistol dots, the original type 2 rmr isn't even close to a "recommend" for anyone. It's old. It's outdated. Defending it is one step short of being that guy who tells everyone to stick with irons on pistols. Let it die in peace it had its day. A new day dawned a long time ago. The rmr hd has a tiny window, horribly tinted glass, fishbowls worse than an actual fishbowl with real fucking fish inside it, needs to be sealed to your gun by a rubber gasket which can be damaged or lost, allowing moisture inside your optic, needs to be taken off the gun to replace batteries, and has a glass cover sealing the emitter that eventually fails because it's literally stuck on with elmer's glue. It's one saving grace is you can smack it with a hammer 15 times before it breaks. But when other optics don't come with ANY of those downsides and you can still smack them 13 times before they break, who the fuck cares?
