Does this apply if you bought gskill in a country outside the US?
wickedplayer494@reddit (OP)
Sadly no, even if you were a Canadian purchasing from Newegg US and had it shipped to a US address such as a border parcel holder/forwarder, it is for US residents only.
Clean_Repair8249@reddit
You can start a class action in your country. The US judicial system doesn't apply to the whole world.
nanonan@reddit
Worth noting that by "You" they mean Americans.
Clean_Repair8249@reddit
The US judicial system doesn't have global jurisdiction. People can die in their own countries if they want.
zghr@reddit
How about they send money to everyone affected without an opt-in? Wouldn't that be nice?
ExplodingFistz@reddit
The individual payout is going to be like 5 cents anyway. Don't even bother
i_omem@reddit
don't listen to this clown who probably submitted 5 claims himself and wants to take your cut of the share by telling you to not do it. I've gotten like a 400 dollar settlement before
Stingray88@reddit
I know this often the view people have of class action lawsuit payouts, but it doesn’t match my experience at all. I’ve personally joined like… maybe two dozen class action lawsuits in the last 15 years? I’d say the average payout is usually close to about $50, some as high as several hundred dollars.
It took me legitimately less than 60 seconds to lookup the invoice for the g.skill kit I bought from Newegg in 2019 and submit my info to this class action. Couldn’t have been easier. So even if it is only a few bucks, still worth it.
MT1982@reddit
I got some error claiming there were inconsistencies with how I interacted with the website. Tried two browsers. Couldn't submit from either.
No_Respect3155@reddit
Don't mean to necropost but, I had this same issue last week. I went on now and was able to complete it.
Stingray88@reddit
Try from a network? I submit on my smartphone
Nail-Jnmn990@reddit
Shoot I lost access to an email account after some incidents that had proof of me buying 2 or 3 kits that I would have been able to prove. Thankfully they let us claim 5 without proof. Proof of even a few would only cement myself and prove validity. Average payouts of the ones I join vary too but it is pretty cool to get money back. I did get a payout once above 580+ but that was due to an employer being dumb and then another 250 from the same employer doing something dumb again.
zushiba@reddit
It’s funny^sad that the payout would almost cover the cost of a set of 2 8gig sticks of ram a few years ago but wouldn’t even cover the taxes on the same set today.
RollingTater@reddit
The one I got for the facebook one was 30 something dollars I think.
For a redbull one I had the option of some cash or a box of 4 redbulls. I took the 4 redbulls, lol.
i_rivers_i@reddit
Exactly, and it's a FYOU to G.Skill who clearly stopped caring about us as customers skimping on production to make more profit. RMA's are downtime and lost capital for shipping cost on R A M. It's RAM they use to make it rock solid that worked forever at the advertised XMP speed.... no longer. I'll take my check for 5cents and put it on the wall and NEVER buy G.Skill again.
AoeDreaMEr@reddit
What thethe previous commenter is telling is, IF everyone affected would be given payouts it would be 5 cents.
SunfireGaren@reddit
Same here. I don't think I've had a class action payout less than $20 and it's more typically $35-50.
i_rivers_i@reddit
So don't make a claim
PrimeTimeMKTO@reddit
I bought 4 kits, I’ll take my $0.20 please.
GhostsinGlass@reddit
Reddit Parrot Syndrome hard at work again. A parrot that speaks not with its beak but rather its ass.
Canadian CRT Class action, most people I knew got minimum $40, I received $80 because I had a receipt. That was 5 minutes of work.
Loblaw/Bread Price Fixing Class action, minimum $50. Again, 5 minuts of work.
Optical drive settlement was $20 min, 5 minutes of work.
Autoparts price fixing was a minimum $25 a claim/part. Little more work for a complex claim but still worth it.
Ask the Volkswagen crowd who purchased diesels how much they received in compensation for Dieselgate who opted to take cash and repair. Or those who had their cars bought back by VW for more than they paid.
tnoy@reddit
It's a class-action lawsuit, you need to be a part of the class to get the pay out. Making it opt-out would be being able to sue someone on your behalf without your knowledge or permission.
zghr@reddit
In 2025 FTC sent almost $10 million to deceived CarShield customers based on company records. No opt-in required.
tnoy@reddit
That was the result of action from the FTC against CarShield, it was not the class of customers suing CarShield.
Quatro_Leches@reddit
most of the money in these lawsuits goes to lawyers, pain in the ass
Joezev98@reddit
Everyone affected by... The box not explicitly stating you have to enable XMP. That's not deceptive. That's simply marketing what the RAM can do, not marketing what a potential motherboard does. It is a scummy lawsuit and even if I lived in the USA, I wouldn't want to make money this way.
Moscato359@reddit
How would they even know I have gskill memory
THXFLS@reddit
No thank you. This lawsuit is stupid and my RAM runs at its rated speed just fine.
Ok_Violinist_8073@reddit
LOL I have purchased over 30 of their kits within the timeframe and I will be making claims on EVERY SINGLE ONE hahahahahaha
9Blu@reddit
Lawsuit is settled. If you don't file, that's just more potentially left over for the lawyers.
mduell@reddit
The lawyers portion is fixed.
OkamiNoKao@reddit
Is it only for US consumers? Because I bought mine not too long ago??
wickedplayer494@reddit (OP)
That is correct, even if you bought from a US retailer from abroad.
Method__Man@reddit
Yay $1.23 per person. And 2.4 million penalty for a company that probably profits 20x that.
5panks@reddit
The issue at hand isn't how much the profited it is how much they like gained with the problematic marketing and howuch consumers likely lost out on value.
username_taken0001@reddit
Literally nothing as they marketed their stick correctly and in the same way as any other producer.
Eclipsed830@reddit
A $2.4 million penalty for a company that did nothing wrong. Lol
waitmarks@reddit
Yeah idk why gskill is getting singled out on this. literally every ram kit manufacturer does the exact same thing.
zoobygainz@reddit
don’t forget the lawyer’s cut
Method__Man@reddit
Enjoy your 35 cents
i_rivers_i@reddit
Please don't make a claim - and if you can't figure out why I say that, you should buy some more G.Skill ram
Method__Man@reddit
what?
i_rivers_i@reddit
exactly
i_rivers_i@reddit
over 1m - those lawyers clean up on theses..
Only_Khlav_Khalash@reddit
15 orders including 2x 128gb ddr5 sets, yeah buddy. What a time to be alive, when ram was plentiful and the birds sang low latency songs
AlexanderKrost@reddit
Gonna file the claim later. Buuuut the Prebuilt computer I purchased back in late 2021 had G Skill RAM on there. Wonder if the claim could count that and if so by how much. Did buy a standalone RAM set to upgrade from 16 to 32GB so...
aaron141@reddit
Its not working for me. Error has said that there were i consistencies when submitting idk what that is
ImpressPlus662@reddit
Me too. I even emailed them and they said they whitelisted me. Still isn't working.
LiquidifiedFireSand@reddit
Can someone explain how this fell on g.Skill? This is industry standard going back about 15 years minimum. And it's not a standard gskill set, but rather Intel, amd and board partners.
OftenSarcastic@reddit
What the hell lol
I wonder what the fallout of this will be. A giant sticker telling people to enable XMP? More conservative XMP profiles to account for boards/CPUs that can't achieve the highest speeds?
Strazdas1@reddit
I hope the fallout will be advertising JEDEC speeds as they should have in the first place. Until then they should keep repeatedly getting sued.
ComplexEntertainer13@reddit
While we are on about JEDEC. How about memory companies started including some decent JEDEC profiles as well. Many XMP/EXPO kits only come with the absolute bare bones bottom barrel JEDEC profile.
Strazdas1@reddit
well if they had to advertise JEDEC like they should, they would likely include better JEDEC profiles. The issue is, a lot of those kits cant run in higher JEDEC profiles without erroring out. With XMP you can just blame user for the risk, but JEDEC you have to be compliant.
AK-Brian@reddit
It's likely as simple as the inclusion of "Up to" language on the prominent face of the packaging.
Corsair settled a similar suit last year and has as, as of this month, rolled out new packaging in the wake of increased return fraud. Their new packaging also includes that "Up to" terminology, where their previous boxes did not.

hoserx@reddit
Looked back at my receipts to file the claim..............
I paid $122.99 for 32gb of DDR5 6400 in 2023
vasahni908@reddit
I paid $165 for 32 GB DDR4 4000 in 2021 💀
Nvidiuh@reddit
It might be worth my time if the settlement was in the tens of millions, but I'm not taking the time to fill out a claim to get a check for $2.76 in May of next year.
2Kappa@reddit
Why is the start date 2018? I have a 2400 Mhz DDR4 from late 2025.
i_rivers_i@reddit
I'm sure that kit still works perfectly..
AK-Brian@reddit
You are within the period of eligibility.
2Kappa@reddit
Sorry, that was mistype. It's from late 2015.
AK-Brian@reddit
Ah, yeah. :(
I haven't read into the case details, but it may simply have to do with specific packaging or performance claims which may have not been in use at that time, or the dates selected were to narrow the scope of the suit.
plexguy@reddit
That was a easier form than many plus they asked you how you wanted payment so was able to set it up for PayPal. Sometimes those checks and cards get overlooked.
Bought a bunch of G.Skill DDR4 kits during that period with mixed results with overclocking. Was easy to get the proof of purchase online and upload.
smackythefrog@reddit
Well, I filled out the form. Thanks for letting us know because I did not get an email about it with an access code, or whatever. Just uploaded a screenshot of my Newegg receipt and hope that suffices.
Can't wait for my $2 check.
