Penetration wise sure but with no expansion and anemic energy. 22 lr will meet it too. If it's for a fun gun I can see it but you really shouldn't be using a 32 for serious self defense.
On one hand I loathe the fact that people act like .25 and .32 auto are like airsoft bbs when they can and will kill you deader than dead.
On the other hand when you can get double stack .380s that are nearly the same size as tiny .32 pocket pistols I don't see why you would chose .32 over it.
More pleasant to shoot. That's really the differentiator. The original LCP is nearly identical to a P32 but in 380. The experience of shooting each of them is night and day.
These smaller calibers are absolutely lethal but they are unlikely to be immediately incapacitating. Hollow points generally will not expand from handguns in these calibers and they all have very low energy. The goal of self defense isn't to kill, but to incapacitate and these calibers are very poor at doing that.
God do I love my LCP Max, when I don’t carry my 43X this bad boy goes right in my pocket with a Vedder holster. Don’t tell my Glock but I actually might like this gun more for carrying lol
And the Bodyguard 2.0 is still worth that price difference. Its leaps and bounds better, this on the otherhand is pretty much a light weight Shield in 380 (reference handgunhero.com if you dont believe me)
The BG 2.0 is also way too big for a pocket gun imo. Although to be fair, so is the LCP Max. This is where the original LCP really shines. It's much easier to pocket carry an original LCP than any of these others.
If you can't work a 10 Rd BG 2.0 in the pocket you must be wearing women's clothing. It's tiny. And you can actually enjoy shooting it, unlike the LCPs awful trigger.
That's even worse. Still a dogwater trigger and no capacity increase, and at least the LCP can excuse not having a safety in the pocket because of its long heavy trigger acting as a safety.
The Glock 42 is quite literally the worst of the 3, especially at the cost. Can't trust the trigger to be it's only safety when loose in the pocket, cause it's light enough to be fingered, and at more cost than a BG 2.0, for less capacity? What's the actual use case?
Not sure why you're discounting the trigger. A better trigger in a extremely stressful situation where your adrenaline is through the roof, hands possibly shaking, possibly injured, possible bystanders, possibly one handed, etc. is something I would consider very important.
So you plan on fishing around in your cargo pants pocket, adjust for a decent grip, draw, push the safety off, rounds on target in the needed 1.5 seconds?
A pocket holster protects you from accidents and gives a good positioning. Do you stick larger guns with safeties in your belt without a holster?
It's significantly bigger than the LCP and much harder to carry without printing in dress clothes.
No one buys an LCP for the trigger. You buy it because you want a gun that's easy to conceal, light weight, and can be hidden in clothes that other guns can't. The BG 2.0 sucks at that. If you want something that you can shoot better at the range and carry iwb, there many other options that are better than the BG.
I want a gun that i can shoot proficiently and have some ammo to spare instead of praying to the Lord the heavy trigger doesn't pull my shot and the anemic 380 round itself can deliver stopping performance within the mere 6/7 rounds.
The BG 2.0 fits in the breast pocket of a sports jacket just fine. My brother literally carried the larger comped BG with 12 at our families last wedding no problem. Maybe if you're a fairly small person or don't have a breast pocket sports jacket, MAYBE a lcp won't print as much. But that absolutely near non existent size increase is a non issue. Even if it did print, and we are talking SLIGHTLY more print, those who carry know nobody knows if it's keys, wallet, etc in your pocket anyways.
The width savings by going LCP is borderline negated by the LCP slide itself being thicker than the grip of the gun, which makes its thinness less relevant than you might think.
Huh? The LCP max is 13.5 oz loaded. Bodyguard is 14.8. Its less than 10% heavier. Safety on my 2.0 is fine easy to move on and off. And the ergonomics are at least 80% better than the LCP I tried.
LCP felt like a glock feels in comparison to a shield, like trying to hold a brick.
Insane cope, BG safety deactivation is easy AF. Maybe turning it on is tricky, but off is the only thing that matters. I'd rather not have a dogwater creeping DAO trigger and far more ergonomic grip
I have both, and the bg2.0 is better in every way. But if you're on a tight budget, the lcp max will get the job done just fine. It's reliable and shoots straight.
I've already been fooled once with the LCP 2, what a heap of a gun. Never fired reliably enough to get through a mag. Had to send it back to Ruger twice and it still only works semi reliably. Seems to be the case from the sample size of 3 LCP and LCP 2s I've had the displeasure of firing. Buy the bodyguard instead, your life is worth the 150 dollar difference.
There is a "Gen 2" Ruger Max 9, wonder if the discount on LCP Max .380's to make way for an updated version of it or just to get back some of the sales the Bodyguard 2.0 is taking

I think the bodyguard 2.0 would be widely considered the best carry for deep conceal carry these days. The question would be is it worth $150-200 more than this.
Had one of these for about this price, and a local shop gave me $10 more for it than I paid when I got sick of the garbage trigger.
Still, as a pocket carry gun — emphasis on the carry part, not the shootey gun part — it was a very good, super affordable choice in a DeSantis pocket holster.
It's "better," but still absolute garbage compared to a SA hammer, or striker pistol. I can't stand 'em, and if I don't want to train with it, I won't own it.
What some people don't realize is these are actually double-action-hammer pistols, not striker. And no single action, even when "cocked." It's 90 year old technology in a package that looks like a striker pistol.
So you're going to have the same trigger pull as a DA revolver with both LCPs.
P365 or BG2.0 beats these in every metric except overall size, and the BG2 is 95% there on that count as well.
There is no reason to buy these (for me) except cost. They're shitty guns, point blank.
As others have said, yes, the BG 2.0 is a technically superior gun, BUT, I still carry my LCP Max on the regular because it is dead-nuts reliable and very concealable. I carried it for several years, trained with it a fair bit, and trust my life with it.

On one hand I loathe the fact that people act like .25 and .32 auto are like airsoft bbs when they can and will kill you deader than dead.
On the other hand when you can get double stack .380s that are nearly the same size as tiny .32 pocket pistols I don't see why you would chose .32 over it.

These smaller calibers are absolutely lethal but they are unlikely to be immediately incapacitating. Hollow points generally will not expand from handguns in these calibers and they all have very low energy. The goal of self defense isn't to kill, but to incapacitate and these calibers are very poor at doing that.

The BG 2.0 is also way too big for a pocket gun imo. Although to be fair, so is the LCP Max. This is where the original LCP really shines. It's much easier to pocket carry an original LCP than any of these others.

That's even worse. Still a dogwater trigger and no capacity increase, and at least the LCP can excuse not having a safety in the pocket because of its long heavy trigger acting as a safety.
The Glock 42 is quite literally the worst of the 3, especially at the cost. Can't trust the trigger to be it's only safety when loose in the pocket, cause it's light enough to be fingered, and at more cost than a BG 2.0, for less capacity? What's the actual use case?

Not sure why you're discounting the trigger. A better trigger in a extremely stressful situation where your adrenaline is through the roof, hands possibly shaking, possibly injured, possible bystanders, possibly one handed, etc. is something I would consider very important.

It's significantly bigger than the LCP and much harder to carry without printing in dress clothes.
No one buys an LCP for the trigger. You buy it because you want a gun that's easy to conceal, light weight, and can be hidden in clothes that other guns can't. The BG 2.0 sucks at that. If you want something that you can shoot better at the range and carry iwb, there many other options that are better than the BG.

I want a gun that i can shoot proficiently and have some ammo to spare instead of praying to the Lord the heavy trigger doesn't pull my shot and the anemic 380 round itself can deliver stopping performance within the mere 6/7 rounds.
The BG 2.0 fits in the breast pocket of a sports jacket just fine. My brother literally carried the larger comped BG with 12 at our families last wedding no problem. Maybe if you're a fairly small person or don't have a breast pocket sports jacket, MAYBE a lcp won't print as much. But that absolutely near non existent size increase is a non issue. Even if it did print, and we are talking SLIGHTLY more print, those who carry know nobody knows if it's keys, wallet, etc in your pocket anyways.
The width savings by going LCP is borderline negated by the LCP slide itself being thicker than the grip of the gun, which makes its thinness less relevant than you might think.

Huh? The LCP max is 13.5 oz loaded. Bodyguard is 14.8. Its less than 10% heavier. Safety on my 2.0 is fine easy to move on and off. And the ergonomics are at least 80% better than the LCP I tried.
LCP felt like a glock feels in comparison to a shield, like trying to hold a brick.

I've already been fooled once with the LCP 2, what a heap of a gun. Never fired reliably enough to get through a mag. Had to send it back to Ruger twice and it still only works semi reliably. Seems to be the case from the sample size of 3 LCP and LCP 2s I've had the displeasure of firing. Buy the bodyguard instead, your life is worth the 150 dollar difference.

Had one of these for about this price, and a local shop gave me $10 more for it than I paid when I got sick of the garbage trigger.
Still, as a pocket carry gun — emphasis on the carry part, not the shootey gun part — it was a very good, super affordable choice in a DeSantis pocket holster.

It's "better," but still absolute garbage compared to a SA hammer, or striker pistol. I can't stand 'em, and if I don't want to train with it, I won't own it.
What some people don't realize is these are actually double-action-hammer pistols, not striker. And no single action, even when "cocked." It's 90 year old technology in a package that looks like a striker pistol.
So you're going to have the same trigger pull as a DA revolver with both LCPs.
P365 or BG2.0 beats these in every metric except overall size, and the BG2 is 95% there on that count as well.
There is no reason to buy these (for me) except cost. They're shitty guns, point blank.

As others have said, yes, the BG 2.0 is a technically superior gun, BUT, I still carry my LCP Max on the regular because it is dead-nuts reliable and very concealable. I carried it for several years, trained with it a fair bit, and trust my life with it.
