Is it normal to not have received any football coaching at school, if you weren’t in the first or second team?

I dont remember being told the rules or not at school. I played football throughout my childhood, so I cant remember if my PE class bothered explaining the rules for people who might not know. ​ But the classes were half-arsed. Fun, I enjoyed having a kick about for two hours. But in hindsight, an actual football class--learning different skills and stuff, would have been better. I was quite a naturally good footballer, I played right back--could tackle well, could pass very well, quite tall so I was good in the air. But at school, and for my saturday team actually, I was never given any coaching at all in the more mental side of the game. School, it was just split into teams and have a kick about. Saturday team, it was do half an hour of basic training stuff (stand in a circle passing while a defender tries to tackle you or layoff shooting) and then a match to finish the session.
