Worth not buying 32gb ddr5 ram?

I was going to buy pc with
spec-
cpu 7600x
gpu 9070
air cooler mid range
b650m
ddr5 16x2
750w psu
hikvision 1tb nvme m.2
ant esports 411 air cabinate
I m thinking to get only 16gb ddr5 ram and get 9700x and 9070xt instead with better psu and aio

Best advice buy 16 if you dont want to overspend ddrr5 is the best option becuase worse case scenario you buy a 16 kit that will be obsolete but at least you can upgraded cpu in the future and motherboard will be fine has long nothing bad happens if you go ddr4 then you most like wasted motherboard cpu and ram now for gaming its fine 16gb is ideal no be honest this is already getting short for gaming in the future this will not cut it but for now pretty much all games will run with this should be fine for 1440p my case i run 32 9070x ryzen 7800x3d on ultrawide runs well if being honest i will swap the 7600x for a 7700x this cpu is really good and being honest its almost the same has my cpu maybe the ryzen 7800x3d beats it by 10% but its not huge i think its better or just go for. 9070 xt and expend more on gpu then cpu and ram being honest if gaming gpu is only gonna make you see a significant improvement in the future you can fix the short comings of your pc

The new baseline for DDR5 memory is 32GB, so please don't even think about going with 16! It will give you much longer service life ahead. Later on, you will notice the stutters and RAM limitations more than the 9700X upgrade. The upgrade path forward would be to stick with the 7600X and the 32GB RAM and spend the money on the GPU or the PSU.

I will upgrade to 32gig later
primerabbit7@reddit
Ignore this person. They just follow hype online. 16 is perfectly fine so long as you do not have a bunch of other things open while gaming. Is 32 ideal? Yes. Is 16 ok? Also yes.
xthelord2@reddit
absolutely not, try running your setup on a single 16gb stick and you will see why you are wrong
not to mention you lose 50% of memory bandwidth which makes CPU a massive bottleneck even on 4k + way worse frame times
someone16384@reddit
Exactly this (Some motherboards I've seen have 4 DIMM slots). In the future, instead of buying 2x16gb sticks to upgrade to 32 you could instead buy another 2x8gb pack of ram (Preferably the same model from the same manufacturer, with the same data transfer rate and cas latency as the others). Do note that it will still operate in dual channel mode unless you're running Threadripper.
swingingthrougb@reddit
With ddr5 don't most motherboard manufacturers recommend running only 2 sticks for optimal speed and preferably 2 sticks from the same silicon set or whatever
primerabbit7@reddit
I was under the impression it was 2x 8. No one in their right mind would go single stick

okay

I have to disagree with that….. having tried my own games with 16GB and 32GB DDR5 RAM I noticed almost no benefit from having 32GB installed, literally a couple fps, this is on games such as Battlefield 6 at 3440x1440….. I’m yet to find a game I’ve played that runs noticeably better with more RAM. It’s a placebo effect. There’s probably five games out there right now which will make use of that extra RAM and if you don’t play any of them it’s simply money wasted.
32GB is a nice to have, but it’s not a need to have
_Leighton_@reddit
BF6 is extremely well optimized, not a good baseline to use. It can literally run on 8gb of RAM.
When I upgraded from 16gb to 32gb it completely eliminated micro stuttering in Chiv 2 after a CPU and GPU upgrade failed to solve that issue.
coolboy856@reddit
Going with 16 to get more performance is perfectly fine, I don't know what you're basing this on
SmokBarrage@reddit
the 9700x route will likely be better in the long run and probably last a bit longer before upgrading it
the 7600x is probably plenty for cpu power currently in this build depending on resolution and what games youre playing making the 32gb of ram pretty tempting even if just to reduce headache worrying about keeping your OS pretty lean
hard choice. im a big fan of the 9700x but lots of the games i play use over 16gb of ram just by themselves
NotNerdKid@reddit (OP)
1080p res for now will upgrade later and games I play where winds meet warzone gta minecraft and hitman
SmokBarrage@reddit
modded minecraft will likely benefit from more than 16gb of ram pretty heavily. unsure about the others.
idk, hard choice. also if you do the 9700x route maybe consider doing just 1x16 and buying an identical stick later, you may have issues trying to run 4x8gb at high speeds
_Leighton_@reddit
Minecraft isn't very RAM heavy in my experience. I gave my modded save a full 8GB to use and it never goes above 4GB.
NotNerdKid@reddit (OP)
yup I will go with single 16x1 stick and I play Minecraft modded(optimization and pvp mods) that is fine cause I m running them with 6gb ram limited with launcher no issue
coolboy856@reddit
There's basically no performance increase from 6-core to 8-core, i.e. 9600x-9700x in gaming tasks.
Your games use over 16gb of RAM *because you have more than 16gb of RAM*. If you have 64 gigs your system might have 30gb+ allocated while doing basically nothing, not because it's needed but because it has the headroom to keep everything in memory. That doesn't indicate anything about memory usage when there's less of it available
SmokBarrage@reddit
i just know when i launched modded minecraft/rimworld on 16gb ram it would take like 5 minutes to load or just crash and suddenly when i got 32 they just worked. yea theyre probably coded like shit but he mentioned minecraft by name
for the cpu, yea its a very little bump over the 9600x and in some games there is no difference. i dont dislike the choice just getting the best cpu possible in his budget because its going to take longer for this cpu to be maxxed out. currently there is very little or no difference because the gpu is likely the bottleneck and neither cpu is being fully utilized. if op wants to upgrade gpu in like 5 years the extra 2 cores will hold up better IMO
coolboy856@reddit
These are exactly the kind of cases where memory does matter
SmokBarrage@reddit
yea i know
i think im misunderstanding your point about the ram i guess.

This video goes over the issue in detail, there are lots of variables to it: https://youtu.be/Bj5v52R4qnk?t=757

I read through a lot of these replies and it appears that everyone is giving their opinion on if it’s enough and nowhere did I see that the OP stated what all the anticipate being able to do with this PC. Maybe I missed this? If you want a standard mid tier pc to play games at 1080p, you’re fine with 16gb for now.
One thing to think about is RAM isn’t going to net you large FPS gains, but performance isn’t always about FPS like people think. If you understand how RAM moves information from non-volatile memory to the CPU and how its bandwidth works, you’d understand why it’s not the leading cause of high or low FPS. What it WILL do is become maxed out with traffic causing it to let your application (game or software) to just stop processing temporarily or at a minimum, not fast enough. So it’s not a constant FPS reduction, but even worse; completely unresponsive for a split second here and there. This is what we see as stuttering which are quick bursts of very low frame rates. In competitive shooters, this can almost be worse than just generally lower frame rates. Not as big of a deal when talking about casual story games.
Back to my original point, if you’re a casual gamer and that’s all you’re using the PC for, it will be fine for now. If you have ANY intention or streaming your game to ANY streaming service, running your game/discord/other softwares at the same time or have productivity in mind to edit photos, videos, etc, you are going to be very disappointed in 16gb. It’s going to be a failure.
To restate, if this is only a mid tier gaming setup where you’ll run a game and maybe discord, you’ll be fine until you can upgrade. Just don’t expect to have 5 chrome tabs open, discord, Warzone, OBS and other background processes running at the same time not see your RAM usage hit 100%. Remember, if you are seeing 100% usage with 16gb of RAM, you don’t have enough RAM. As soon as you hit 100% usage, your computer then swaps to your HDD or SSD to process the data transfer and RAM is MUCH faster than your SSD/HDD. This is what causes the stuttering.
Reddit is a great tool for information, but I can assure you that not a single one of these people should have answered anything about this without knowing what your use case was for the PC. If this Reddit forum was BuildAGamingPC, that would be different. But it’s just BuildAPC, so we just don’t know what the expectation is here.
I’d be more than happy to help you work through your use case and recommend hardware solely on your specific needs.

thanks it helped a lot
JustALinkToACC@reddit
I say better to buy 32GB DDR4 than 16GB DDR5. And if you can’t afford 32GB DDR5 or it seems like a waste, just go for DDR4.
NotNerdKid@reddit (OP)
no future upgrades is the problem and downgraded cpu and motherboard
Byro1218@reddit
16 will be just fine. This is what you can do to improve pc without going for 32gb. Buy a x3d cpu for the cache and a GPU with at least 12 gb of VRam. That will keep you going until you need to get a 32 gb kit
NotNerdKid@reddit (OP)
I can go for 7800x3d gpu is already 9070 q6gog but I won't be able to be in between I mean 9700x and 9070xt cpu gou both upgraded and 7800x3d is overkill I guess for me and if u r talking about 7600x3d it's not available in my vountry
Byro1218@reddit
Are you saying you can get both a 7800x3d and 9070? If that’s the case get the best GPU you can afford. 7600x is still good. Just for scaling, I have a 5600x with a 3080 10gb vram and gaming just fine at 1440p
NotNerdKid@reddit (OP)
yup i understand i m thinking of getting 9070xt as its 800 dollars and after this 5070ti is bove 1000 so not worth i think so i will spend a bit on cpu 9700x with 9070xt
Mrcod1997@reddit
90% of the time 16gb is enough. Just pay attention to memory usage in task manager, and minimize multitasking in demanding games.
OverSizedPillow@reddit
So I don't want to shame anyone from getting things within their price range because its perfectly reasonable to get 16gb ram if your expectations match it.
My current G14 laptop only has 16gb and it rarely is an issue because the limited screen size prevents multitasking which would otherwise strain it which is pretty much only going to be a single game with maybe discord up as the most strain.
My work laptop where I frequently have to do productivity tasks is immensely strained at 16 and if I could, I would not only double it but I would go to 64.
My desktop went from 32 to 64 because of my dual screen allowing me a lot of real estate for multitasking, not having to close out browser tabs (which I am horrendous at), streaming over discord while playing and having other people's screen share up or having a stream up side by side.
I think 16 can work but it wouldn't be my preference by far. A lot of the youtube videos on RAM always suggested 32gb as the standard until the recent RAM crisis for which they went back and changed their stance to 16 is enough but I don't necessarily buy that as the stance seems to be birthed out of necessity rather than actual usage.
LostTheElectrons@reddit
16GB is enough, although you should be careful not to have too many programs open when you're gaming.
Upgrades to your GPU and CPU would be worth it. You don't need an AIO, a good quality air cooler is plenty and much cheaper.
NotNerdKid@reddit (OP)
👌okay btw rn I m ugrading from 3050 laptop 6gb ddrr to it so that's no problem I think and it's for 1080p now will upgrade later
LostTheElectrons@reddit
That 6GB will be the VRAM not the system RAM, your laptop likely has 8GB or 16GB of RAM but again its not a big deal.
That PC will be very overkill for 1080p,but nothing wrong with that if you are going to upgrade eventually. 1440p high refresh rate is the sweet spot.
NotNerdKid@reddit (OP)
I actually mistyped I meant 16gb ddr4 ram
Melodic-Pound-840@reddit
I got 16gb ddr5 for my pc, on windows it's not enough for my modded games, but on linux it run just fine, so maybe if you can dual boot it's more acceptable to get a 16gb ram
