Mammogram call back

I too was always called back for additional screening and had 2 clear biopsies before finally running out of luck and being diagnosed with stage 2a TNBC 2 days before my 45th birthday. No family history. But I had dense tissue. And I found the tumor myself and heard from one website that about 50% of people with dense tissue find the lumps themselves. I’d had a clear diagnostic mammogram just 10 weeks earlier. The doctors send the dense tissue letter now, but my experience is that very few practices or insurance companies actually do anything about it, and when I asked they made it seem like there was not much to do. I now disagree. Be proactive. Check yourself often. If you have dense tissue, at a minimum ask for ultrasounds. There’s also new technology for mammograms. They inject you with contrast. The pictures with and without contrast are night and day. It should be standard procedure for any one with dense or fibrous tissue, IMHO. Cancers insidious and freaking persistent and it does not discriminate. I “beat” it in 2024 with chemo, radiation and a lumpectomy, but then showed new growths in my first mammogram of 2025. Currently sitting in a recliner recovering from breast reconstruction after a bilateral mastectomy. Cancer has interrupted three years’ of my family’s lives and it sucks. My kids’ middle and high school years revolve around my treatments and surgeries. But I’m fighting and I’m here. Snd they’re still well adjusted. Attitude is important. But also demand better. There’s better diagnostic tools out there now and I encourage everyone to push for their use especially if you have dense tissue or are otherwise high risk. Early detection = lives saved.
